Sarah S Greenwood, DipTrans IoLET I am a native English speaker with a love for all things portuguese and a flair and passion for literary translation.
I was ‘adopted’ by the Algarve in 2005 and over the past 15 years I have become fully bilingual and bicultural. I hold a BA (Hons) in Drama from The University of Hull and my professional background was originally in Theatre but, with my love for languages and the written word, translation seemed a logical progression. I decided to pursue a career in translation in 2011, and with only 6 months preparation, I passed the Institute of Linguists' graduate Diploma in Translation: specialising in Literature and Social Science.
My extensive experience within the tourism industry has given me a unique skillset in providing accessible and authentic translations and revisons to local tourism-focused companies who wish to appeal to a wide English-speaking demographic.
I also work locally offering support to new residents or investors in overcoming language barriers and trappings of the local bureaucracy.
I recently became involved in 'A Casa das Poetas': a multi-lingual poetry and translation event taking place annually in the medieval town of Silves, Portugal, where I have been privileged to work with renowned writers from the UK, Portugal and further afield.
I am a keen reader and writer who enjoys translated fiction and poetry above all. I believe translation provides a unique window to other cultures and love to journey 'through the looking glass'.
From translation to events coordination to local guidance... I am ever the missing link between people, language and cultures. Always looking for common ground. Always open to opportunities! |
