Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Agriculture of China have jointly issued the "National 12th Five-Year Plan on Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution in Animal Farming" in latest days. According to the plan, large-scale breeding farms, farming dense regions with severe pollution, areas with large farming quantity and heavy burden of pollution will be the focus of the environmental governance of the "12th Five-Year Plan".
It's pointed out by the target of the Plan that until 2015, COD and ammonia-nitrogen emission by animal husbandry of the whole country shall be cut by 8% and 10% on the basis of 2010 with increased reduction capacity of 1,400,000 tons per year and 100,000 tons per year respectively.
In recent years, rapid development of China's animal husbandry brings about a significant increase of breeding waste. Due to the relatively lagging behind prevention and control in this specific field, environmental pollution caused by animal farming in China is becoming serious. Data from the dynamic update of pollution source investigation indicates that in 2010, COD and ammonia-nitrogen emission caused by animal farming in China reached 11.84 million tons and 0.65 million tons, accounting for 45% and 25% of total emission of the whole country meanwhile 95% and 79% of agricultural source. Animal farming has become one important factor of environmental pollution of China.
