Source text - English SOME MYTHS ABOUT INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING AND TEACHING
A number of myths about inquiry-based learning and teaching have at times been wrongly attributed to
the National Science Education Standards. These myths threaten to inhibit progress in science education
reform either by characterizing inquiry as too difficult to achieve or by neglecting the essential features of
inquiry-based learning. Listed below are responses to five of these mistaken beliefs.
Myth 1: All science subject matter should be taught through inquiry. Teaching science effectively
requires a variety of approaches and strategies. It is not possible in practice to teach all science subject
matter through inquiry, nor is it desirable to do so. Teaching all of science using only one method would
be ineffective, and it would probably become boring for students.
Myth 2: True inquiry occurs only when students generate and pursue their own questions. For students
to develop the ability to ask questions, they must "practice" asking questions. But if the desired outcome
is learning science subject matter, the source of the question is less important that the nature of the
question itself. It is important to note, however, that in today's science classrooms students rarely have
opportunities to ask and pursue their own questions. Students will need some of these opportunities to
develop advanced inquiry abilities and to understand how scientific knowledge is pursued.
Myth 3: Inquiry teaching occurs easily through use of hands-on or kit-based instructional materials.
These materials can increase the probability that students' thinking will be focused on the right things and
learning will occur in the right sequence. However, the use of even the best materials does not guarantee
that students are engaged in rich inquiry, nor that they are learning as intended. A skilled teacher remains
the key to effective instruction. He or she must pay careful attention to whether and how the materials
incorporate the five essential features of inquiry. Using these five features to review materials as well as
to assess classroom practice should enhance the kinds and depth of learning.
Myth 4: Student engagement in hands-on activities guarantees that inquiry teaching and learning are
occurring. Although participation by students in activities is desirable, it is not sufficient to guarantee
their mental engagement in any of the essential features of inquiry.
Myth 5: Inquiry can be taught without attention to subject matter. Some of the rhetoric of the 1960s
was used to promote the idea that learning science processes should be the only meaningful outcome of
science education. Today, there are educators who still maintain that if students learn the processes of
science, they can learn any content they need by applying these processes. But as stated at the beginning
of this chapter, student understanding of inquiry does not, and cannot, develop in isolation from science
subject matter. Rather, students start from what they know and inquire into things they do not know. If, in
some instances, a teacher's desired primary outcome is that students learn to conduct an inquiry, science
subject matter serves as a means to that end. Scientific knowledge remains important. The abilities and
understandings outlined in the Standards extend beyond the processes of science to engage students in a
full complement of thinking and learning science.

It was difficult to separate learning from participation. In the literature
investigation on positioning, participation, and learning, the term context refers to the
characteristics of an environment that can alter how people interact with one another
(Surra, 2003, p. 284). This means that changing learning needs, new conditions creating
new learning, and new participants joining the learning community can influence the
environment for learning.
Additionally, participation implies a correlation to learning, the content of
learning, and the context or where learning takes place. Learning in context explains how
adults integrate information and apply what she or he knows to different and sometimes
newer conditions.
Participation is essential to learning because learners live within a society of other
people. Social learning comes through collaboration with other learners. Learning in
new conditions and with others leads to the question of how adults construct knowledge.
Construction of Knowledge
Knowledge and the ability to recall information and events to formulate opinions
about current conditions, comes more often through collective efforts than individual
reflection (Harrè, 2002). This does not imply that reflection is not useful.
Harrè (2002) explained that knowledge comes from two sources, which exist for
all people. As a part of his positioning theory, Harrè (1999) proposed that
communication is an integral component of existence. Additionally, communicating with
other people is a social activity. An individual builds knowledge as she or he continues
to participate in the communicative side of society and agrees to the social practices of
that society.
People construct knowledge differently. The extent of knowledge will differ
between people because each individual has different experiences that can change and
add to stored knowledge. Each person has different needs for constructing knowledge.
Additionally, each person experiences and interprets the communicative practice
differently. Experiences from the social participation and communication in networks of
other people become the second source for constructing knowledge.
The belief up to this point from the literature review is that experience is a phase
of learning. One should not sever and try to understand experience as a separate idea.
Learning in the Context of Experience
Belzer•s (2004) research highlights the role of context and experience in adult
learning. She found that experience lets learners sort through experiences to identify new
information. Persistence in learning can result from experience at learning. This means
that previous learning contexts may not have provided the full support needed for
learning to occur. Therefore, once that learner has either a similar experience or has a
newer experience, responses that are more appropriate become easier for the learner to
identify and apply. Once the learner gains new knowledge from an experience, he or she
becomes receptive and more alert to new learning opportunities and new knowledge.
Dewey (1961) seeded the discussion about experience by raising the question of
whether experience is in reality learning. His answer supported the premise that
experience was not an expression of cognitive skill, but “a matter of doing and
undergoing the consequences of doing” (p.276). This conflicts with other findings.
Dewey•s statement contradicts his later assertion that doing in and of itself forms from
and is an expression of knowledge. When an individual acts on what she or he knows,
the result is “tested knowledge” (p.276). A learner would not recognize that an action
had a consequence if she or he lacked the knowledge and desire to put knowledge to the
test and learn from the experience. Learning comes from participation and applying what
one knows to other events. How do adults recognize experience and that experience is a
construct of knowledge? There are two answers to this question, learning and learning
through experience similar to positioning.
Stated earlier in this review, learning is a series of actions. The series of actions
include interpreting experiences and using knowledge. Learners are asked to apply
knowledge to an experience such as positioning change, to learn from the experience and
in the experience. Learning occurs from the experience as learners begin to extract
meaning from this new context of learning. An experience at that point transforms into a
new context of learning.
Fenwick (2003) stated the answer to learning is in the experience. Experiences
can be impromptu, yet experiences can be planned. Fenwick also suggested that
experiences can require collaboration and that learning can also result from
sensationalism.
Experiential learning needs full involvement of the learner. Full involvement
means the learner must recognize that an event is taking place and be able to understand
each facet of the event, relating what she or he knows to the event. Understanding
Fenwick (2003) explained this to be “interpretation of the events complexities” (p. 53).
To understand an event, the learner must recognize that this is a new event or
reliving of an experience. Learning occurs in two ways. Learning could occur when a
person realizes she or he already has the knowledge to respond properly. Learning could
also occur when a person recognizes that the event is indeed different and what he or she
knows is inadequate. The series of actions explained here describes how adults learn
through experience using association, integration, appropriation, and confirmation
(Fenwick, 2003, p. 53).
The next step in the series of actions for learning through experience comes
through reflection. When a person reflects on an experience, she or he looks at the
context and the learning coming out of the experience. Reflection helps learners
recognize self as integral to the process of learning, because the experience was a part of
the learner•s reality. Fenwick (2003) uses the term autobiography or “a process involving
reflection on one•s life story in search of meaning and learning” (p. 54).
The idea of autobiography is relevant to the idea that learning takes place in the
context of an experience. In their study of learning in an urban environment, Kappel and
Daley (2004) concluded using interview data that the context of learning represents who
a person is as a learner. That person is a learner who has knowledge and experience from
another context that she or he wants to apply in a new context of learning.
Strategies for Learning
Adult educators may consider several strategies to help adults learn. This section
considers popular culture, narrative storytelling, and journal writing as strategies
available to facilitators and learners.
Rogers (2002) looked at how pop culture became a tool for adult learning. Her
research explored the use of the media, in particular movies, as a facilitation tool to teach
adult, African-American women. Benefits she cited were (1) “popular culture promotes
learning; (2) its content describes the nature and expectations of society; and (3) it
encourages learning beyond the classroom” (p. 328). There is no inference that only
ethnic people might benefit from such a practice.
For women in particular popular culture was an opportunity to learn, have a voice,
and to identify ways to change opinion about women and cultures, but more so of other
members of their own community. The context of learning applied to Rogers (2002) is
found in the changing needs of the adult learning population. The women invited to take
part spoke about the commonality of experiences between themselves and roles portrayed
in the movie. The discussion gave women a channel for comparing their daily lives to
scenes from the movie that mimicked some area or experience of their own lives.
Another learning strategy is keeping a personal journal. Adult learners access
opportunities to interpret knowledge through journal writing. Journal writing is a
narrative reflective tool allowing learners “to reframe problems and draw on past
experiences” ((Mannion, 2001, p.96). The literature researched looked at journal writing
or narrative reflection as a learning tool used in higher education. However, there is no
evidence in the literature that this strategy for learning would be inappropriate in less
structured learning arenas. Mannion•s final analysis of the benefit to using journal
writing as a learning tool states,
Learning from experience is a form of writing that creates a world in which the
writer is the central character in the story. Learning from experience is a process
where the writer textually creates and recreates her or himself. It is the raw
material, our “being-in-the-world”. (p. 113).
Another learning strategy discovered was narrative storytelling. Narrative
storytelling has benefits. It is a way to communicate information on an event or
experience for the meaning that is has in the learner•s life. Narrative storytelling helps
learners reach a point of confirmation about an experience that gets that learner to where
she or he can reflect on choices for future behavior and decision making (Butcher, 2006).
Butcher's research attended to learning coming through correctional education.
Literature addressing the use of narrative storytelling in adult transitional resident populations was scant.

لفهم حادثة معينة، لابد للمتعلم من إدراك أنها حادثة جديدة أو إعادة خوض لتجربةٍ ما. فالتعلم يحدث بإحدى طريقتين. إما أن يحدث عندما يلاحظ المتعلم أنه يمتلك الخبرة مسبقا التي تمكنه من التجاوب بالطريقة الملائمة. أو أن يحدث التعلم عندما يلاحظ المتعلم اختلاف الحادثة وأن معرفته غير كافية. إن سلسلة الأفعال المذكورة هنا تصف كيف يتعلم الأشخاص البالغين من خلال الخبرة باستخدام الربط والدمج والتخصيص والبرهان (فنويك، ٢٠٠٣، ص. ٥٣).

يعتبر التدوين استراتيجية تعليم أخرى. فالمتعلمون البالغون يحصلون على فرص لتحليل المعرفة عن طريق كتابة المدونات. فكتابة المدونات هي أداة تأمل سردية تسمح للمتعلمين "بإعادة صياغة المسائل والاستفادة من التجارب السابقة" (مانيون، ٢٠٠١، ص. ٩٦). إن المراجع محل البحث اعتبرت كتابة المدونات أو التأمل السردي أداة تعلم للمراحل التعليمية العليا. لكنه لا يوجد دليل في المراجع على أن هذه الاستراتيجية لا تلائم إلا الأماكن التعليمية. وفيما يلي نص تحليل مانيون الأخير لفوائد استخدام كتابة التدوينات كأداة تعلم:
إن التعلم من خلال الخبرة هي شكل من أشكال الكتابة التي تخلق عالما يكون فيه الكاتب هو الشخصية الأساسية التي تتمحور حولها القصة. إن التعلم من خلال الخبرة هي عملية يقوم فيها الكاتب بتشكيل وإعادة تشكيل نفسه كتابيا. فمجرد وجودنا في هذا العالم هي المادة الخام التي نستقي منها خبراتنا. (ص. ١١٣).
وقد تم اكتشاف استراتيجية تعليم أخرى وهي السرد القصصي، والتي لها منافعها. فهي وسيلة لمشاركة معلومات مرتبطة بحادثة أو خبرة ما لما تحمله من معنى في حياة المتعلم. كما يساعد السرد القصصي المتعلم على أن يصل إلى مرحلة إثبات قدرته على التأمل من خلال خبرته في خيارات لسلوكيات وقرارات مستقبلية (بُتشر، ٢٠٠٦). وتناول بحث بُتشر التعلم من خلال التعليم الإصلاحي.
أما المؤلفات التي تناولت استخدام السرد القصصي في المجتمعات المقيمة الانتقالية البالغة فقد كانت شحيحة.

Source text - English In a cavernous converted brewery on London's Brick Lane - an area packed with Bangladeshi supermarkets, Huguenot buildings, bagel shops and hipster coffee bars - three artists are setting up a huge exhibition of work from the Middle East, and it's not easy to install. There are Persian carpets with models of cities rising out of them, a sound installation using 90 speakers, mock roadblocks, a spinning globe and a custom-made board game called A Rather Trivial Pursuit. A tent will be set up as a library, and one of the many video installations, by two Dubai-based artists, changes depending on the movements of the viewers.

The show, run by the social enterprise Edge of Arabia, is called #COMETOGETHER, in honour of both online networks and real-life gatherings, and it's significant that it's happening on Brick Lane, a street that has been home to immigrant communities for almost 400 years. Stephen Stapleton, the curator and an Edge of Arabia co-founder, points out that just outside the exhibition space there is a travel agent specialising in Haj trips, Moroccan restaurants and an Algerian music shop.
"It's a healthy place to have this kind of a gathering," he says. "In the last 10 years, with September 11 and the Iraq War, where's been a lot of pulling apart [of East and West], but also a lot of coming together. The violence did motivate a lot of people to start talking. It's an interesting moment."
He's keen to get locals into the show, especially those who don't usually see contemporary art, and especially Muslims. "We have a chance to champion moderate voices from the centre of the Islamic world here, where you have some of the most conservative Muslim groups in London," he says. "I think it's a really good opportunity to see artists from somewhere like Saudi Arabia who are very forward-thinking and open."
They are also technologically sophisticated. The Jerusalem-born artist Larissa Sansour, who is based in London and has had solo shows in Paris and Copenhagen, will be exhibiting her video work A Space Exodus, a reworking of Stanley Kubrick's 1001: A Space Odyssey. The artwork, which shows a Palestinian flag being planted on the moon, was shot in glossy HD and was nominated in the short film category at the Dubai International Film Festival in 2009. Referencing exoduses relating to both Palestine and the Bible, Sansour says it is intended to deliver "a slick, powerful take on Palestinian identity, something one does not see very often".
Another piece of video art in the show is by Ahmed Mater, another co-founder of Edge of Arabia, whose work has been collected by the British Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Shown across four screens, it looks at the rapid development of Mecca into a high-rise, neon-lit city. (A preview clip can be seen at Edge of Arabia's website.)
A similar theme has been pursued by Sarah Al Abdali, who made her name spray-painting stencil art in the streets of Jeddah of a modified road sign to Mecca, replacing the traditional image of the Kaaba with a cluster of skyscrapers. In an interview with CNN earlier this year, she said that people have been taking photos of the work and sharing it on Facebook and Twitter; it's an example of how social networking technology is transforming the consumption of art. Al Abdali is spending the week before #COMETOGETHER's opening working on brand-new graffiti work that will be on show on a courtyard wall outside the exhibition space.
Artists such as the 23-year-old Al Abdali are part of a new online culture, Stapleton says, in which learning things on the internet and thrashing out issues on web forums is the norm. "The show wants to acknowledge this new connectivity," he says, "because the tech is dissolving all these man-made borders, definitions, ideas like 'the Arab world' and 'the Gulf'. I think this will create a totally different generation."
Duo represents the UAE
The UAE is represented in the show in the form of Hala Ali and Lantian Xie, two Dubai residents who have collaborated on Approximate Feast, a video installation hooked up to motion sensors so that the film changes as the viewer approaches the screen. Hala Ali, who was born in Saudi Arabia, grew up in the UK, and is currently studying in Sharjah, is thrilled to be exhibiting alongside "giants from the Arab World". She will be performing slam-style poetry on opening night, as well as showcasing her co-produced video work, which depicts illustrated, stereotypically Arab-looking figures feasting on lamb and rice, but becoming more cautious and eventually leaving as the onlookers get closer to the work. It's about "critiquing a media construction" of Arabs, she says. "The idea is that when the viewer approaches they're becoming aware of their own prejudices and biases." Ali will be performing her poetry in Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi later this year.
Edge of Arabia: a history
2003: Stephen Stapleton drives around the Middle East with artist friends, setting up exhibitions. Meets Abdulnasser Gharem and Ahmed Mater in Saudi Arabia; they later decide to set up Edge of Arabia, a social enterprise promoting links between artists in the Middle East and the rest of the world.
2008: Edge of Arabia's first exhibition opens at the School of African & Oriental Studies in London.
2009-10: Shows are mounted in Berlin, Venice, Istanbul and Riyadh
2011: Edge of Arabia returns to the Venice Biennale in the same year as a new national pavilion for Saudi Arabia. A pop-up exhibition called Terminal is mounted in an abandoned space in the DIFC to coincide with Art Dubai.
2012: An Edge of Arabia show in Jeddah called We Need To Talk is reported in The Art Newspaper as "the most ambitious ever show of Saudi contemporary art in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

"إنه مكان صحي لخلق هذا النوع من اللقاء"، كما يقول. وأضاف، "في السنوات العشر الماضية، مع أحداث 11 سبتمبر والحرب على العراق، كان هناك الكثير من التنافر [بين الشرق والغرب]، ولكن كان هناك في المقابل الكثير من التقارب. والعنف كان محفز للكثير من الناس للبدء بالحديث والنقاشات. إنها فعلا تعتبر لحظة مثيرة للاهتمام."
إنه حريص على استقطاب السكان المحليين لحضور المعرض، وخاصة أولئك غير المعتادين على رؤية الفن المعاصر، وخصوصا المسلمين. "لدينا فرصة لتوفير منصة هاهنا للأصوات المعتدلة من أنحاء العالم الإسلامي، حيث لدينا هنا بعض المجموعات الأكثر محافظة في لندن،" كما يقول. وأضاف "اعتقد أنها فرصة جيدة حقا أن نرى فنانين تقدميين ومنفتحين من مكان مثل المملكة العربية السعودية."
كما أنهم متطورون من الناحية التكنولوجية. فمثلا الفنانة لاريسا صنصور والتي ولدت في القدس واستقرت في لندن وسبق وأن أقامت معارض فردية في باريس وكوبنهاجين، ستقوم بعرض فيلمها: اكسودس الفضاء (أو الخروج للفضاء)، وهو إعادة صياغة لفيلم المخرج الكبير ستانلي كوبريك: 1001: أوديسا الفضاء. حيث يصور فيلمها نصب العلم الفلسطيني على سطح القمر، وتم تصويره باستخدام تقنية عالية الجودة، كما تم ترشيحه لفئة الفيلم القصير في مهرجان دبي السينمائي الدولي في عام 2009.
هناك رمزية في الفيلم تشير فيه الهجرات إلى كل من فلسطين والتوراة. تقول صنصور، "الفيلم يهدف إلى تقديم صورة سلسة وقوية للهوية الفلسطينية، صورة لا يراها الكثيرون عادة."
كما سيتم عرض فيديو آخر في المعرض من عمل أحمد ماطر، وهو الشريك المؤسس الآخر في حافة الصحراء، والذي سعى كل من المتحف البريطاني ومتحف مقاطعة لوس أنجلس للفنون باقتناء بعض أعماله. يتم عرض الفيديو عبر أربع شاشات، والذي يستعرض التطور السريع لمكة المكرمة إلى مدينة شاهقة المباني تشع بإضاءة النيون. كما تتبع سارة العبدلي موضوع مماثل حول التحول الذي تعيشه مكة المكرمة. سارة العبدلي كونت اسما لها عبر رش لوحات إرشادية باستخدام الاستنسل في شوارع جدة وخاصة في "البلد"، حيث تشير هذه اللوحات إلى اتجاه مكة، لكن بدل من استفراد الرمز التقليدي لمكة وهو الكعبة للوحة جعلت مجموعة من المباني الشاهقة تحتل نصيب الأسد وابقت الكعبة على طرف سلسلة المباني حيث تظهر صغيرة لا تكاد ترى مقابل ناطحات السحاب.
في مقابلة لها مع سي ان ان في وقت سابق من هذا العام، قالت إن الناس قاموا بالتقاط صور من العمل في شوارع جدة ومشاركتها عبر الفيسبوك وتويتر. وهذا يوضح دور الشبكات الاجتماعية في تحويل مفوهم استخدام الفن. قضت سارة الأسبوع الذي يسبق افتتاح معرض COMETOGETHER# في العمل على جرافيتي جديد على الجدران الداخلية لساحة المعرض.
يقول ستابلتون، "هناك فنانون من أمثال سارة العبدلي والتي تبلغ 23 عاما هم جزء من ثقافة جديدة مرتبطة بالانترنت، حيث تقضي القاعدة بتعلم الأشياء على شبكة الانترنت ومشاركة آراءهم في المنتديات والمواقع المختلفة. والمعرض يرغب في الاعتراف بوسيلة التواصل هذه، لأن التكنولوجيا تمحو جميع هذه الحدود، والتصنيفات، والأفكار التي هي من صنع الإنسان مثل "العالم العربي" و "الخليج". واعتقد أنه سيخلق جيل مختلف تماما."
ثنائي يمثل دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة
يقوم بتمثيل الإمارات كل من هلا علي ولنشن چي، وهما اثنين من المقيمين في دبي اللذان تعاونا على مشروع فيديو باسم "وليمة تقريبا"، هذا الفيديو متصل بأجهزة استشعار للحركة بحيث تتغير أحداث الفيلم كلما اقترب المشاهد من الشاشة.
هلا علي، وهي من مواليد المملكة العربية السعودية، نشأت في المملكة المتحدة، وتدرس حاليا في الشارقة، تشعر بسعادة غامرة أن تتشارك جنبا إلى جنب في معرض يضم "عمالقة من العالم العربي" كما أسمتهم. كما ستقوم باستعراض الشعر العامي باللغة الإنجليزية الذي يعتمد على الأسلوب وثقل وقع الكلمة في ليلة الافتتاح. بالإضافة إلى عرض عملها المشترك الذي يصور رسوما متحركة لشخصيات نمطية للعرب يجتمعون حول وليمة عجل وأرز، ولكنهم يصبحون أكثر حذرا باقتراب المتفرجين للعمل فيتركون الوليمة في نهاية المطاف. هذا العمل ينقد تشخيص الإعلام للعرب، كما تقول. "الفكرة التي نريد إيصالها هي أنه باقتراب المشاهد لهم تتضح لهم أحكامهم المسبقة التي أطلقوها على بعض والتحيزات فيما بينهم." وسوف تلقي هلا شعرها في الشارقة ودبي وأبوظبي في وقت لاحق هذا العام.
حافة الصحراء: نبذة تاريخية
2003: ستيفن ستابلتون يجول الشرق الأوسط مع أصدقائه الفنانين، يقيم معهم المعارض. يلتقي بعبد الناصر غارم وأحمد ماطر في المملكة العربية السعودية اللذان تخرجا من قرية المفتاحة، وقرروا في وقت لاحق إنشاء حافة الصحراء، وهي مؤسسة اجتماعية تعزز الروابط بين الفنانين في الشرق الأوسط وبقية العالم.
2008: المعرض الأول لحافة الصحراء في كلية الدراسات الأفريقية والشرقية في لندن.
2009-10: أقيمت المعارض في كل من برلين واسطنبول والبندقية والرياض
2011: تعود حافة الصحراء إلى بينالي البندقية في العام نفسه كجناح وطني جديد يمثل المملكة العربية السعودية. تم إقامة معرض في مكان مهجور من مركز دبي المالي العالمي ليتزامن مع معرض آرت دبي.
2012: إقامة معرض في جدة باسم: نحن في حاجة إلى الحديث، وتم وصفه في صحيفة الفن باسم "المعرض الأكثر طموحا للفن السعودي المعاصر في المملكة العربية السعودية إلى الآن."

Source text - English Potable water is water that meets drinking quality standards. We should not consume non-potable water.
Grey water is the term normally used to describe water from sinks or bath and shower outlets.
There is some confusion over the definition of grey water so it is essential that, as Facility Managers, we are familiar with the definition used as it relates to our facilities.
The USGBC LEED® Reference Guide for Green Building Design and Construction (2009), pages 190 / 191 states:
“Graywater is defined by the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) in its Appendix G, Gray Water Systems for Single-Family Dwellings, as “untreated household waste water which has not come into contact with toilet waste.
Greywater includes used water from bathtubs, showers, bathroom wash basins, and water from clothes-washer and laundry tubs. It must not include waste water from kitchen sinks or dishwashers.”
The International Plumbing Code (IPC) defines graywater in its Appendix C, Gray Water Recycling Systems, as “waste water discharged from lavatories, bathtubs, showers, clothes washers and laundry sinks.” Some states and local authorities allow kitchen sink wastewater to be included in graywater.
Other differences with the UPC and IPC definitions can likely be found in state and local codes. Project teams should comply with graywater definitions as established by the authority having jurisdiction in the project areas.”
Black water may contain human waste, e.g. water flushed thought the toilet.
Note that there is no universally accepted definition for black water.
Some US states consider water from showers or bathtubs to be black water.
Again, we need to be familiar with definitions and local codes which apply to our facilities.

كما توجد اختلافات أخرى بين الـ UPC والـ IPC فيما يتعلق بالمعايير المحلية والمعايير الدولية. على فريق المشروع أن يلتزم بتعريفات المياه الرمادية التي تقدمها السلطة التي تغطي المنطقة التي يقع عليها المشروع.”
قد تحتوي المياه السوداء على فضلات الإنسان، مثال، المياه المتدفقة من خلال المرحاض.
لاحظ أنه ليس هناك تعريف عالمي موحد للمياه السوداء. بعض الولايات الأمريكة تعتبر المياه الناتجة عن أحواض الاستحمام ضمن المياه السوداء.

لحظة ، عبدالله .. رايح لبوفية علي ؟ بالله هات لي معك بيض بجبن .. خله يحط شطه ( صوت المايكروفون )

- كانت مدينة وادعة ، يلفها السكون أكثر من أسلاك الكهرباء ، وتحتضنها الطمأنينة أكثر من الجدران .. بصباحاتهم الباكرة يخرجون الناس كالطلقات النارية نحو العمل

مشهد لعمارة سكنية طويلة ، تحتها ( فوال ، صيدليه ) تقترب الكاميرا من أحد نوافذها ، بداخلها رجل يغطي نفسه باللحاف يبدو دائرياً بينما كل التفاصيل التي تتجول الكاميرا عليها تبدو مربعة بشكل مبالغ فيه ورموز مكعبة غريبة ومشكوك بأمرها ، يستيقظ ، يجلس وهو ينزع اللحاف عن وجهه يبدو نافع وهو يتثاءب بطريقته ، بالسطح يقذف بالمسبح المطاطي ، يضع فيه خرطوم المياة مع الصابون ، يجلب القفص المليء بالبكسلات المرتعبة ، يفتحه ليتساقطوا منه ، على أصواتهم يستيقط سلتوح الذي يبدو بالغرفة نائم داخل شبك بزاويتها وبجانبة ربطة تبن أخضر ، وكأنه يتذكر شيئاً وعلى السرير ينام الحمار ، يقترب منه يوقظه بأن يمسك أذنه ويهزها :
- صابر ، قوم صابر تأخرنا .. ورانا خط
صوت المعلق أثناء إرتداء عقيل لنظارته بعد أن تصعد الكاميرا للأعلى وهو :
- ها ها ها ، النوم ساس اللوم لو يدري الفتى ..
( أحدهم وراءه المعلق ينادي ) :
- فهيد ، فطورك على الطاولة ، لا يبرد ثم نبلش فيك .. يكمل فهيد :
- و .. أأ ، لاشيء ألذ من البيض بالجبن مع قليل من الشطة .. أين كنا ؟ نعم .. يخرج الشعب إلى مصالحه العليا و الساندوتش ....
سلتوح يمتطي حماره الذي يمشي بينما يبدو سلتوح متحمساً ، يتعاقب الليل والنهار عليه .. وتتغير لتضاريس التي يمر بها .. يقترب من قصر فخم .. يتطلع لأعلى وهو عازم على الدخول ..
بالغرفة يقول الشاب الوسيم والذي يجلس مع دعيجه على كنبه
- أقولك و قتها كنت بثالث متوسط بس من جد خليته ماينساها
- لا حرااام عليك ، يا الله منك .. خاااالد !
يفتح الباب بقوه ودعيجه جالسه على كنبه تضحك مع شاب وسيم جداً بشعر طويل ، يتفاجأن .. يقول الشاب
- مين هالكائن .. يا الله ليه هو كذا ؟

The narrator speaks as the camera moves upstairs to where Aqeel puts his eye glasses on:
- Well, well, well.. Carpe diem!
(Someone behind the narrator calls out):
- Fhaid! Your breakfast’s ready! Quick before it cools down and you make a fuss about it.
Fhaid, the narrator continues:
- And.. well.. nothing is more delicious than eggs & cheese with a little hot sauce - Where were we? Oh yeah, the people seek after their higher interests and.. sandwich.
The handsome guy sitting with Duaijah on the couch says:
- I’m telling you, I was in 9th grade at the time. But I sure gave him a lesson to remember!
- You did not! That’s so evil! Oh, shame on you, Khaled!
Handsome guy:
- Who is this creature!? Ew..
Duaijah:
- I have no idea. I’ve never seen him before. Probably the garbage man.
- Oh, I thought he was a person. By the way, garbage men are so aggressive.
