I was born in Piacenza, Italy in 1952. I graduated in Electric Engineering at Milano Polythecnic, Italy. I then started to work as a professional in education. Few years later I also became a technical writer.
My professional activity always combined the production/management of 'b2b' magazines and books and technical teaching and training. The two activities are well combined. In fact, as a writer, I often participate to international technical and research meetings in US, Asia and Europe. This knowledge is then transferred not only in specialized articles and books, but also in lessons, seminars and consultancies.
As far as editorial production is concerned, I started my career working as technical director of Ingegneria Elettronica (Electronic Engineering) and Sistemi di Telecomunicazioni (Telecommunication Systems) magazines. Then I conceived and founded Automazione Oggi (Automation To-day), for which I was technical director from 1983 to 1993. In the meantime, I was a contributor of other magazines of the same publisher, like Elettronica Oggi (Electronics To-day), Informatica Oggi (Computer Science To-day) and Watt.
From 1993 to 1996 I worked for another publisher, as technical director of Automazione Integrata (Integrated Automation), Elettronica Integrata (Integrated Electronics), L'Impianto Elettrico (Electric Plant) and Tecniche dell'Automazione (Automation Techniques), that were redesigned in their format and contents. I then began a cooperation as a free-lance with main italian financial newspaper "Il Sole - 24 Ore" on subjects of technical nature, interviewing very many italian and non-italian companies about their technologies, applications and strategies.
In 1997 I conceived and founded Fieldbus&Networks magazine and returned as technical director of Automazione Oggi, that was fully redesigned. In 2006 I participated to the creation of the new magazine LabVIEW World (supported by National Instruments), of which I was technical director until November 2011.
In 2010 I started as technical director a new project of paper-web magazine called NewSImpresa, that can be seen on www.newsimpresa.it. I also started a cooperation with Tecnoservizi, that is the publisher of Automation Design and ECO Design.
This year I co-founded a new magazine called Controllo e Misura (Control and Measurement) of which I'm now technical director.
In these years I wrote several hundreds of articles. I also wrote or edited many case histories, handbooks, press releases and application notes for companies in electric, electronic, IT and automation industries. In addition, I wrote 6 books:
- Tecnologie e applicazioni dei sistemi a microcomputer (Technologies and applications of microcomputer systems)
- Elettronica digitale e microprocessori (Digital electronics and microprocessors)
- I controllori programmabili (Programmable controllers)
- Il Grafcet
- I controlli numerici (Numeric controls)
- Robotica industriale (Industrial robotics)
As far as technical training is concerned, I taught and still teaching lessons and seminars targeted to many public and private companies. These are some of the most recent subjects of the courses:
- Digital electronics and microprocessors
- PCs and operating systems for industrial applications
- Industrial automation
- Automatic identification systems
- Programmable controllers (PLCs), PACs and Industrial PCs (IPCs)
- Local area networks and fieldbuses
- Data acquisition and supervision (Scada systems)
- Machine vision
- Electric motor drivers
- Building Automation
- Smart sensors
I'm now Guest Professor for Electronics at Tallinn Technical University (TTU) in Estonia.
Finally, I organize meetings and conventions on subjects related to automation, industrial IT and other technologies for manufacturing.
