Polish to English: 'Ludzie bezdomni' by Stefan Żeromski General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English Little shops opened left and right, establishments ending not far from their doorsteps – like drawers lined with paper. On wooden shelves of a shop like these lied, roughly, 3-ruble-worth of cigarettes, and closer to the door a passer-by could be tempted with boiled eggs, smoked herring, chocolate in blocks and in alluring form of candy, sliced cheese, white carrots, garlic, onions, cookies, radishes, pea beans, buckets of kosher sausages and jars with raspberry concentrate.
In every one of those shops a pile of mud blackened the floor, which - even in heat – kept its pleasant moisture. Children both wrapped in dirty rags and dirtied up beyond speech themselves were crawling in this filth. Every pit was a nest for several people, who spent their lives chattering and doing nothing. Sitting deep inside there was usually some father of a family, a greenish melancholic, who wouldn’t leave his spot from dawn to dusk and waste his time dreaming of swindles while staring into the streets.
English to Polish: 'On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning' by Haruki Murakami General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English Now, of course, I know exactly what I should have said to her. It would have been a long speech, though, far too long for me to have delivered it properly. The ideas I come up with are never very practical.
Oh, well. It would have started “Once upon a time” and ended “A sad story, don’t you think?”
Once upon a time, there lived a boy and a girl. The boy was eighteen and the girl sixteen. He was not unusually handsome, and she was not especially beautiful. They were just an ordinary lonely boy and an ordinary lonely girl, like all the others. But they believed with their whole hearts that some-where in the world there lived the 100% perfect boy and the 100% perfect girl for them. Yes, they believed in a miracle. And that miracle actually happened.
One day the two came upon each other on the corner of a street.
To byłaby jednak długa przemowa, zbyt długa dla mnie, by wyłożyć ją porządnie.
Dawno dawno temu żyli sobie chłopak i dziewczyna. Chłopak miał osiemnaście lat a dziewczyna szesnaście.

English to Polish: http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/spring-summer-2013/couture/valentino General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
Source text - English A poignant moment occurred at the end of the Valentino couture show this evening as Mr Valentino himself stood up to kiss and congratulate Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the co-designers of the famed label for the past five years, on their show. Now that’s praise indeed. This pair continues to successfully steer the Valentino ship each season and spring/summer 2013 was an especially spectacular one – a magnificent, spirit-lifting collection that really made sense of the word of couture in its truest sense, treading the line between being feminine, light and intricate yet really modern and catering for what a woman would want to wear.
Translation - Polish Dziś wieczorem, na końcu pokazu couture Valentino, nastąpił wzruszający moment, gdyż sam Pan Valentino wstał, aby ucałować Marię Grazię Chiuri i Pierpaola Piccoli, co-projektantów osławionej firmy od ostatnich pięciu lat, i złożyć im gratulacje. To dopiero pochwała!
