Coggie est un ado de 14 ans vivant avec sa mère et sa sœur dans un petit appartement de la banlieue de Liverpool. Il passe le plus clair de son temps avec ses deux copains, Macca et Steve. Ce dernier, agressif et tête brûlée, a de plus en plus d’influence sur eux et les entraîne dans des jeux violents. Coggie se pose des questions : doit-il suivre la bande et répondre aux provocations de Steve ou écouter sa famille et rester dans le droit chemin ? Ce premier long métrage mêle avec habileté réalisme et poésie. Un début prometteur pour le réalisateur, qui a fait appel à des jeunes acteurs très doués.
Gagnant du Meilleur Film au Van d’Or en 2012 et à Milan (I’ve Seen Films).
Prix du Jury au Kansas International Film Festival.

Ce film, qui interroge la notion d’identité britannique tout en suggérant la puissance rédemptrice de l’art, est à ne manquer sous aucun prétexte.

Il s’entraîne à la boxe dans une salle multisport, où il assiste un jour à un cours de danse classique. C’est la révélation: non seulement il s’y reconnaît mais il a un réel talent. Il rêve dès lors de devenir danseur, contre l’avis de son père. Drôle et émouvant, le film joue habilement sur le réalisme et le dépassement des possibles.

Roman Polanski signe ici une superbe adaptation d’un grand classique de Thomas Hardy, Tess of the d’Urbervilles publié en 1891.

Sélectionnés pour représenter le Royaume-Uni au concours international Brave New Voices à Washington D.C, ils vont tenter l’aventure dans le but de réaliser un rêve : partager leur passion des mots avec des jeunes poètes du monde entier. Ce film époustouflant nous faire vibrer au rythme du slam, rendant palpable la musique de la langue et l’intensité des émotions. Un vrai régal pour les amoureux de la langue anglaise.

Coggie begins to question himself: should he give in to Steve’s taunting and follow the pack or listen to his family and stay on the straight and narrow? This director’s first feature length film skilfully mixes social realism and poetic vision. A promising start for the director, who has revealed some highly talented young actors.

He goes to boxing classes at a local sports hall, where one day he sees a ballet lesson taking place. It’s a real eye-opener; not only does he enjoy it but he discovers he has real talent. From that moment on, he dreams of becoming a dancer, despite what his father may think. Funny and moving, this film cleverly combines social realism and achieving the impossible.
The film will be screened at 2pm on Saturday 8th December as part of the Nantado initiative, followed by a question and answer session between the audience and professional dancer Vincent Blanc from the Centre de Chorégraphie of Nantes.

Roman Polanski’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s great classic, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, published in 1891, is simply superb.

This breath-taking film transmits the unique rhythm of slam, enabling the viewers to feel the music of the language and the intensity of the emotions. A real treat for lovers of the English language.
