|English to Portuguese: Time to give up monogamy? Women could improve the 'quality of their offspring by having multiple partners', claims study|
General field: Science
|Source text - English|
Women could improve the quality of their offspring by mating with multiple partners, researchers have said.
Experts from four universities examined the behaviour of an ancestor of the domestic chicken and found that mating with different males helped females produce offspring that are more resistant to disease.
The findings could be applied to other animals - including humans, they claim.

Mulheres poderão melhorar a qualidade dos seus descendentes acasalando com vários parceiros, disseram investigadores.
Especialistas de quatro universidades examinaram o comportamento de um ancestral da galinha doméstica e descobriram que acasalar com diferentes machos ajudou as fêmeas a produzir descendentes mais resistentes a doenças.
Os resultados poderiam ser aplicados a outros animais, incluindo humanos, dizem os especialistas.

I was born in Portugal with English parents, having attended Portuguese school.
I am fully bilingual, English being spoken at home and Portuguese at school and with friends.
Although I have never been taught in English at an academic level, my spelling and vocabulary are outstanding, mainly being learnt from reading books.
I worked for three years as a journalist for an English newspaper in Portugal, which consisted of translating many Portuguese news stories to English and also interpreting on several occasions.
I have done some work as an interpreter in Portuguese Court and I have also carried out many translations.
I have a lot of free time available at the moment and I am very interested in doing translations on a professional level.
What I have noticed with several translations, mostly subtitles from movies, is that slang and colloquial terms are usually wrongly translated. Having lived in both countries, England and Portugal, I have the benefit of knowing these terms better than others.
I am very keen on becoming a professional translator and only need an opportunity to prove my worth.
