About me
For me, translation is a craft founded on reading and writing. As a reader of German, I like to study a text closely, get a feel for its style, research its specialist terms, take it apart and find out how it works.

As a writer of English, I like to create prose that recreates not just the meaning but the feeling of the source text, that reads fluently, and maybe even has a certain elegance. I'm a stickler for good spelling, grammar and style.

I'm happiest working either directly with a client or with an agency that takes customer service seriously. It's important to me that the translation meets the needs of the people who commission it. I want to make a translation that reflects the client's style, values and brand. It gives me great satisfaction to enable a German-speaking company to compete on equal terms in a linguistically Anglocentric world.

I'm a British-born native speaker of English. I studied translation at University College London and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, graduating with a first class honours degree in German and History of Art. In a varied career, I've also gained a master's degree in anthropology, worked in the media and in social housing, where I specialised in writing bids for local government tenders. My diverse experience enables me to cover a number of different subject specialisms. It also means that I understand the needs and priorities of clients in the private, public or voluntary sectors, with a focus on writing to deliver commercial results – winning a tender, promoting a brand, wooing a potential customer.

In addition to translation, I'm a skilled editor and proofreader. If you have a previously translated text that needs correcting, polishing, or changing so that it reads as if written by a native English speaker, I would be delighted to help. I look forward to working with you.
