صراع أميركي - أميركي على ضفـاف النيـل

عندما يكثر الطباخون «تشيط» الطبخة وحقيقة أنَّ كل هذا الزحف الأوروبي والأميركي.. وأيضاً العربي في إتجاه مصر بعدما حصل فيها ما حصل إنْ كان ليس كله فبعضُه على الأقل ليس نظيفاً وأهدافه غير نبيلة وأنَّ غايته هي تحويل هذا البلد الكبير العظيم ساحة للصراعات الإقليمية والدولية وعلى غرار ما حدث مع سوريا التي بعد إستقبالها لـ»دابي» الجامعة العربية تعددت الأيدي التي إمتدت نحو الطبخة السورية فكانت النتائج هذا الذي نراه الآن.
كان غريبا ذلك الموقف المبكر الذي إتخذته سفيرة الولايات المتحدة «المُبْعدة» آن باترسون بالإنحياز إلى طرف واحد هو «الإخوان المسلمون» وعلى عينك يا تاجر وكان الأغرب من هذا هو الموقف المبكر أيضاً الذي إتخذته الموفدة الأوروبية «الجميلة»!! كاترين آشتون وكل هذا جعل المصريين والعرب يشعرون بأن وراء الأكمة ما وراءها وأنَّ هناك لعبة دولية لتمزيق مصر وإلحاقها بالطريق الذي سارت عليه سوريا التي أبتليت بأن تـُقاد من قبل مجموعة من المغامرين والمراهقين سياسياً أوصلوها إلى هذه الأحوال التي توجع قلوب المخلصين والمحبين لهذا البلد العربي الذي كان يوصف بـ»قلب العروبة النابض» فأصبح قلب النزعة الطائفية البغيضة بقيادة الولي الفقيه علي خامنئي.
لا شك في أنَّ وليم بيرنز، نائب وزير الخارجية الأميركي الذي عرفناه عن قرب سفيراً لبلاده هنا في المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية، من أفضل دبلوماسيي العالم وأوسعهم أفقاً وأطولهم بالاً ولهذا فإنه قد تعامل مع الأوضاع المصرية الملتهبة بأسلوب دبلوماسي راقٍ ورائع وعلى العكس تماماً مما فعله ثنائي الكونغرس الأميركي جون ماكين وليندسي غراهام اللذين وصفهما الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما بأنهما في هذه المهمة لا يمثلانه ولا يمثلان إدارته وإنما يمثلان نفسيهما.. ومن أرسلهما والمقصود هنا هو الحزب الجمهوري.
ولعل ما يدل على كم أن ماكين هذا ومعه رفيقه في هذه المهمة التي أثارت الكثير من الأسئلة والتساؤلات قد تجاوزا كل حدود اللياقة الدبلوماسية وأنهما تماديا في حشر أنفيهما في أمور مصرية داخلية لا تعنيهما أنَّ الرئيس المصري المؤقت عدلي منصور قد وجه إليهما عبر مستشاره الإعلامي إنتقادات لاذعة جداً جاء فيها :»إن ماكين يزيِّف الحقائق وأن تصريحاته الخرقاء مرفوضة جملة وتفصيلاً» والمعروف أنَّ هذين المسؤولين الأميركيين قد بشَّرا في تصريحات لاحقة بأن مصر ذاهبة إلى الحرب الأهلية!!.
ويبدو أن ماكين وزميله غراهام قد جاءا إلى القاهرة وبكل هذه السرعة، بينما كان بيرنز يقوم بمهمته في العاصمة المصرية بهدوء وبدون إستعراضات ولا قذف الجمر المتَّقد في كل إتجاه، للتخريب على الديموقراطيين ولإظهار عجز الرئيس باراك أوباما وإدارته عن حلِّ أيٍّ من الأزمات المتفجرة في الشرق الأوسط من الأزمة العراقية إلى الأزمة السورية إلى الأزمة المصرية إلى الأزمة الفسطينية-الإسرائيلية وبالطبع إلى الأزمة الليبية والتونسية واليمنية والحقيقة أن هذا واضح كل الوضوح وأنَّ ماكين قد جاء ليسدد حساباته القديمة مع الحزب الديموقراطي على ضفاف النيل وأنه جاء للتخريب ولدفع مصر نحو هاوية كالهاوية التي سقطت فيها سوريا.
إنَّ المعروف أن هناك غراماً قديماً يجمع الأوروبيين بالإخوان المسلمين وأن المعروف أيضاً أنَّ الأميركيين قد ورثوا علاقة الأوروبيين بـ»الإخوان»، إنْ في مصر وإنْ في كل مكان، وأنهم إعتمدوا عليهم في التحشيد لذلك «الجهاد» القديم لإخراج الروس من أفغانستان وأنهم بقوا يعتبرونهم القوة الوحيدة القادرة على تجنيب دول الشرق الأوسط وشمالي إفريقيا الوقوع في الفراغ وبالتالي الغرق في العنف والحروب الأهلية المدمرة... لكن ما هو غير معروف هو أن تصر الولايات المتحدة، قبل أن تحسم أمرها وتحدد موقفها، ويصر الإتحاد الأوروبي على التعامل مع عنوانين في مصر، الدولة من جهة و»الجماعة» الإسلامية من جهة أخرى، وهذا هو ما أطال أمد هذه الأزمة الخطيرة وهذا هو ما جعل القيادات الإخوانية تُصر على شروطها التعجيزية.
Translation - English "Too many cooks spoil the broth" — truly, all of this American, European and Arab creeping around Egypt after its past events is dirty and ignoble, in part if not in whole. Its function is to turn this big and great country [Egypt] into an arena for regional and international conflict in the same way that happened with Syria. After receiving the Arab League, they all stretched out their hands toward the "Syrian broth"; the result is what we see today.
The early stance taken by U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson is biased to one extreme: the Muslim Brotherhood. Even more strange is the early stance taken by the (pretty) European Union foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton! And it makes the Egyptians and the Arabs feel as though there is an international game being played, set to tear Egypt apart and attach it to Syria, which is led politically by a group of adventurers and teenagers. They drove Syria to conditions that agonize the hearts of sincere and peace-loving onlookers. As such, this Arab nation [Egypt], which was once described as "the beating heart of Arabism," has become the hateful heart of sectarianism through the conduct of the Supreme Leader [of Iran], Ali Khamenei.
There is no doubt that William Burns, representative of the U.S. Department of State, whom we knew closely as the American ambassador here in the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan, is one of the best diplomats in the world. He has dealt with Egyptian flare-ups in a manner of pure and admirable diplomacy. On the contrary, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham did not. U.S. President Barack Obama explained that they did not represent himself or his administration, only themselves .... They were sent by, and acting on behalf of, the Republican Party.
Perhaps what John McCain and his companion are demonstrating in their mission, which raised many questions, is how much they have transcended all bounds of decent diplomacy and stuck their noses into internal Egyptian affairs, which are of no concern to them. [Egyptian] President Adly Mansour addressed the two with harsh criticism through his media adviser: "John McCain is distorting the facts. His clumsy statements are unacceptable in both form and substance." It is known that these two American officials announced in subsequent statements that Egypt is going into civil war!
While Burns carries out his task in Egypt's capital in tranquility, without parades and without flinging burning embers in every direction, it seems that McCain and his colleague Graham had come to Cairo — with great haste — to sabotage the Democrats and make President Obama and his administration appear unable to resolve any of the erupting crises in the Middle East, from the Iraqi crisis to the Syrian crisis, to the Egyptian crisis, to the Palestinian-Israeli crisis, to the crises in Libya, Tunisia and Yemen. Actually, it's all very clear: McCain had come to settle his old accounts with the Democratic Party on the banks of the Nile. He came to sabotage and to push Egypt toward an abyss — like the abyss into which Syria fell.
It is known that Europeans have an old inclination for the Muslim Brotherhood. It's also known that the Americans have inherited the European relationship with the Brotherhood in Egypt and elsewhere and that it depended upon them for amassing its troops in an effort to expel Russia from Afghanistan. It still considers the Brotherhood to be the one force able to keep the Middle Eastern countries and the countries of Northern Africa from falling into the void and plunging into violence and civil war .... But what is not known is that the U.S., before even taking a position, and the EU insist on dealing with Egypt as a country on one hand and an Islamic "gang" on the other. This is what has prolonged this dangerous crisis, and this is what has made the Muslim Brotherhood leaders insist on their unfeasible conditions

في أوج الصراع الذي احتدم بين المجلس التشريعي والرئيس الراحل ياسر عرفات لإدخال اصلاحات ومكافحة الفساد في عام 2002 رضخ الرئيس الراحل لمطالب التشريعي الى ان قوض الاجتياح الاسرائيلي فرص الاصلاح، وبعد الاجتياح وحصار ياسر عرفات في المقاطعة فوجئنا بمحمد رشيد الملقب بخالد سلام يجتمع مع مسؤولين اميركيين في واشنطن لبحث ما وصفه بإدخال اصلاحات في السلطة وكتبنا في حينه ان اقلامنا لن تجرؤ على الحديث عن اصلاحات ديمقراطية في الحكومة ومكافحة الفساد طالما ان من يرفع لواء الاصلاح من واشنطن هو خالد سلام المفاعل النووي الاكبر للفساد والمحسوبية بالشراكة مع الاحتلال منذ قيام السلطة, وهو الآمر الناهي في حينه حتى استعصت محاسبته على عرفات نفسه رغم الحاح مركزية فتح على ذلك، وعند تشكيل اول حكومة برئاسة ابو مازن تدخل الاميركيون وكالوا المديح لأبي مازن بلسان بوش ما اعتبره البعض تدخلا في الشؤون الفلسطينية وكان هدفهم النيل من عرفات اي ليس حباً في علي ولكن كرهاً في معاوية. ولعل الخذلان الاميركي لأبي مازن آنذاك كان السبب الرئيس في استقالة تلك الحكومة ذات المئة يوم في الحكم، وحاليا يكرر الاميركيون الأمر نفسه بكيل المديح لرئيس الوزراء سلام فياض قبل استقالته وبعدها ولعل هذا المديح غير المبرر ظرفيا سرع عملية تقديم استقالة فياض لأنه لا يريد ان يحسب وكأن أمره بيد واشنطن. فالاميركيون اعطوا كلاما جميلا لأبي مازن وأطلق بوش وصفه الشهير للجدار الاستيطاني بأنه افعى لكنه تراجع عن عقيدته المناهضة للاستيطان بعد اسابيع وهم يلقون كلاما جميلا لفياض لكنهم قاموا بدعمه سياسيا داخليا ولم يدعموه قط في مواجهة الاسرائيليين، فالتدخل الاميركي في الشأن الفلسطيني ينعكس سلباً على الممدوح ولا يزكيه لأن السياسة الاميركية ما زالت غير متوازنة تجاهنا، وقد تشكلت عبر العقود عقدة فلسطينية من أي امتداح خارجي لأية شخصية فلسطينية لأن ذلك ينعكس سلبا داخليا فكلما لمع الاسرائيليون شخصية في السابق اعتبرها الشارع الفلسطيني نوعا من خلق مشروع سياسي بهذه الشخصية وكلما اطنب الاميركيون في مديح شخص تراجعت شعبيته تلقائيا لأن المديح غير المقرون بالعمل في مواجهة الاحتلال هو خداع. وأذكر هنا ان شخصية فلسطينية مهمة غابت عن الساحة الآن بسبب غرورها الزائد لعبارة مدح قالها بوش الأب عنها بحضور زعيم عربي وتوقع ان تكون هذه الشخصية رئيسا مقبلا.. فأصيبت الشخصية بالغرور وخدعها الاميركيون وغابت عن الساحة، اقول قولي هذا ليس لأن المديح الاميركي مصيدة وربما مقصلة فقط بل لأن هناك من قدم اوراق اعتماده لواشنطن كزعيم مقبل لنا.. وما اكثر المتقدمين الذين لن يحصلوا على معدل قبول في جامعة ام الشرايط.
الغريب ان ما كان من مديح اميركي لهم ايام الرئيس عرفات منعشا وبردا وسلاما فياضا صار الآن حارا وسخاما لأنه لغيرهم.
Translation - English
In 2002, a conflict flared up between the Palestinian Parliament and former President Yasser Arafat regarding the implementation of reform and the battle against corruption. At the height of the struggle, Arafat gave in to the Legislative Council’s demands, until the Israeli invasion undermined any opportunity for reform. After the invasion and siege against Yasser Arafat, we were surprised to learn that Muhammad Rashid was meeting with American officials in Washington to discuss what was described as “the introduction of reform in power.” At the time, we wrote that our pens wouldn’t dare discuss democratic reform in the government or the battle against corruption, so long as the one raising the flag for reform was Khalid Salaam — the biggest and most volatile reagent for corruption and nepotism surrounding the occupation since his rise to power. Arafat was the dictator then until his own accountant, Khalid Salaam, refused to work for him in spite of centralized control over his administration. During the formation of the first government under President Mahmoud Abbas, the Americans intervened and gauged support for Abbas, according to what Bush and others considered it to be. They were intervening in Palestinian affairs, aiming to undermine Arafat — not for the sake of being altruistic, but for egotistical motives.
Perhaps the Americans were disappointed in Abbas primarily because his government resigned after 100 days of being in power. Currently, the Americans are doing the same thing — having gauged approval for Prime Minister Salam Fayyad before his resignation, and after it.
Perhaps this American approval is unwarranted, considering the quickness of Fayyad’s resignation — he didn’t want it to seem as if his orders came from the hand of Washington. The Americans said nice things about Abbas, and Bush said his famous words about the [Apartheid Wall] — describing it as a snake — but withdrew from his position, which had opposed colonization, after just weeks. The Americans put in good word for Fayyad as well — supporting him internally and politically, but they never supported him in facing Israel. Since U.S. politics are still not balanced in our favor, U.S. intervention — in Palestine’s case — reflects adversely on whomever it is trying to support. Over the decades, foreign flattery began to become a problem for any Palestinian figurehead, since it would reflect poorly internally.
Whenever the Israelis highlighted a Palestinian figurehead in the past, Palestine was considered some kind of political agenda. And whenever the Americans would glorify a Palestinian individual, his popularity would automatically fall, since that praise doesn't go well with opposing the occupation — he is an impostor! As I recall, an important Palestinian individual is absent from the scene because Bush, Sr. complimented him in front of an Arab leader, and he gained too much of an ego. He was expected to have become the next president. He gained an ego, the Americans deceived him and then he was gone. I’m saying all of this not because American praise is a trap; however, there are qualified individuals who have gone to Washington and applied to be our future leader ... And there are advanced students who won't be making the acceptance cut for the University of Um Al-Sharayet.
It is strange how American praise, which was cool and refreshing during the days of President Arafat, has become hot and bloated for Salam Fayyad, since he is not for the Americans.

في زمن بعيد كان هناك نجار معروف بمهارته وحرفته العالية . وقد إشتهر في المدينة بمصنوعاته الجميلة العالية الدقة حيث كان يصنع الطاولات و الكراسي والخزانات ويزينها، ووصلت شهرته إلى كل مكان فكان الناس يتنافسون للحصول على مصنوعاته .
وكان للنجار زوجة تساعده في عمله وإبن في الثالثة عشرة من العمر يسمى علاء الدين . وقد علم النجار إبنه علاء الدين ما يتقنه من فنون النجارة حتى أصبح علاء الدين في مثل مهارة أبيه، وبدأ يصنع الأشياء الجميلة من الخشب . وبالإضافة إلى حرفة النجارة كان علاء الدين محبا للقراءة ودراسة العلوم والميكانيكا وتفوق على أقرانه وسبقهم في الفهم والمعرفة
وذات يوم أعلن علاء الدين في أسواق المدينة والمدن المجاورة عن مسابقة لكل الحرفيين والحدادين وغيرهم ، وكانت فرصة للجميع لإظهار مواهبهم ومهاراتهم. وكانت هناك جائزة قيمة من حاكم المدينة للفائزفي المسابقة .
وبدء الحرفيون من كافة مدن المملكة في صنع أشياء مختلفة وفريدة , إلا أن الناس ضحكوا وقالوا "لن ينال هذه الجائزة إلا أبا علاء الدين لأنه لا يوجد من هو في مهارته"
إلا أن أبا علاء الدين لم يعبأ بما سمع من الناس فقال له إبنه "ياأبي لماذا لا تشارك في هذه المسابقة ؟ لن يستطيع أحد أن يهزمك فيها وحتما ستكون الجائزة الكبرى لك، ومهما كان ما ستصنعه فإنه سيكون فريدا ومختلفا ولن يستطيع آدمي أن يصنع مثله"
فقال له الأب " لماذا لا تشارك أنت بدلا مني ؟ سيكون ذلك إختبارا لقدراتك ومهارتك ، لقد قررنا ذلك أنا وأمك فلا تخيب رجائنا"
وافق علاء الدين وبدء في الإستعداد للمسابقة وذهب إلى الحجرة التي يستخدمها مقرا لعمله وكانت مليئة بالخشب والمسامير والمناشير والشواكيش. وكان بها أيضا أجزاء معدنية وتروس وصواميل وأسلاك والعديد من الكتب حول العلوم الطبيعية والميكانيكا . وحوت الحجرة أيضا عدد من الأشياء الصغيرة التي صنعها علاء الدين قبل ذلك مثل ساعة حائط بها عصفور يخرج كل نصف ساعة ليعلن عن الوقت وقرد خشبي صغير يحمل طبلة وله زراع متحركة على زنبرك تقرع الطبلة وحصان خشبي يتحرك كالإنسان الآلي ويفتح فمه ويغلقه كما لو كان يصهل .
ولكنه قال في نفسه " أنا أريد أن أحقق تطلعات أبي لذلك علي أن أخترع شيئا لم يخترعه أحد قبلي ، وهذا الشيئ يجب أن يكون رائعا وفريدا ينبهر به كل من يشاهده وبه أفوز بالجائزة"
بدأ علاء الدين يفكر فيما سيبتكره ولكنه لم يهتد لشيء وأتعبه التفكير فراح في نوم عميق بينما هو جالس في مكانه .
وبينما هو نائم رأى في منامه حلما غريبا ، فقد رأى أنه يمتطي حصانه الخشبي الصغير الذي يندفع بأقصى سرعة في السهول والبراري سابقا كافة الحيوانات الأخرى ، حتى الأسود والنمور لم تستطع مجاراته في سرعته ، وفجأة رأى أمامه بحرا وتوقع أن يبطئ الحصان من سرعته ولكنه لم يفعل واستمر يجري بسرعته الفائقة فصاح به حتى يتوقف ولكنه لم يستطع إيقاف الحصان ، إلا أنه ومع وصوله إلى ساحل البحر نبتت للحصان أجنحة كأجنحة الطير وطار الحصان بهذه الأجنحة فوق مياه البحر كما لو كان نسرا أو صقرا كبيرا . تشبث علاء الدين بالحصان مخافة أن يقع من فوقه وينتهي به الأمر تحت مياه البحر. وعبر الحصان البحر وطار فوق اليابسة مرتفعا حتى إختفى وسط السحب.
إستيقظ علاء الدين من النوم مندهشا وكان أول ما نظر إليه هو حصانه الخشبي الذي كان واقفا في مكانه بلا حراك .
مسح علاء الدين عرقه وقال لنفسه " ياله من حلم غريب ... ، حصان خشبي طائر ، لم يسمع أحد بهذا من قبل وبالتأكيد لن يستطيع أحد أن يصنع مثله"
وفكر ثم قال لنفسه "لو إستطاع بشر أن يصنع مثل هذا الحصان الطائر فسوف يفوز بكل تأكيد بالمسابقة وبالجائزة الكبرى .
ولكن ، هل يستطيع بشر أن يصنع مثل هذا الحصان الطائر مهما كانت مهارته ؟
وكانت كتب علاء الدين وأدواته متناثرة أمامه وكأنها تناديه وتدعوه أن يجرب ويحاول. قفز علاء الدين من سريره وكله عزم وتصميم ، وقال "سأحاول أن أصنع الحصان الطائر ، وستكون معجزة إن إستطعت ذلك ، وسأحاول أن أستخدم كل ما قرأته وتعلمته لهذا الغرض"
وفورا بدء علاء الدين في صنع الحصان الطائر .
قضى علاء الدين عدة أيام في صنع الحصان الجديد وكان حجمه مثل حجم حصان طبيعي كبير وله سرج ولجام . أما ملامحه الخشبية فكانت كحصان حقيقي وكانت ساقاه من العاج اللامع ولهما زنبرك قوي يحركهما.
وصنع الأجنحة من الخشب الرقائقي (الأبلكاش) يمكن فردهما وطيهما الى جانبي الحصان عندما لا يكون طائرا ، تماما مثلما تفعل الطيور وتمتد وتتحرك إلى أعلى وأسفل بسرعة كبيرة حتى تستطيع حمل وزن الحصان وراكبه في الهواء .
وثبت علاء الدين الأجنحة في بطن الحصان مستخدما زنبركا قويا لتحريك الأجنحة.
أخيرا إكتمل صنع الحصان ولكن لم يتم تجربته بعد . غادر علاء الدين حجرته بعد عدة أيام قضاها فيها يعمل بدون توقف لصنع الحصان ونادى أبويه ليريهما ما صنعه ولم يصدقا أعينهما لما رأوا الحصان الطائر.
أمتطى علاء الدين حصانه الذي كان قد تركه أمام النافذة وأدار المحرك وبدأ الحصان في التحرك .
صاحت أم علاء الدين "إنتبه على نفسك يا علاء الدين"
تحرك الحصان وارتفع عن الأرض بسبب أجنحته القوية وطار حول المنزل عدة مرات والأبوين لا يصدقان أعينهما وشعرا وكأنهما في حلم عجيب
هبط علاء الدين بالحصان في الفناء الخلفي للمنزل وهرعت إليه أمه تحتضنه بينما ربت أبوه على الحصان بإعجاب وفخر وقال " هذا الحصان أعجوبة حقيقية . يجب أن نخفي أمره فلم يبقى إلا أياما معدودة وتبدأ المسابقة ، وأنا واثق أنه سيكسب الجائزة الكبرى وسيكون حديث الناس جميعا"
أخفت الأسرة الحصان الطائر داخل المنزل ولم يخبروا أي أحد عنه حتى يوم المسابقة التي أقيمت في أكبر أسواق المدينة وذهب كل الحرفيين إلى هناك كل يحمل ما صنعه وكانت كلها أشياء جميلة ومبتكرة
وقال علاء الدين لأبيه "هيا بنا إلى السوق يا أبي لنري الحاكم حصاننا الطائر"
ولكن الأب قال له "عندي فكرة أفضل ستبهر الحاكم والمتفرجين وستجعلك تفوز حتما بالجائزة "
أخبر الأب إبنه بما عليه أن يفعله وقال له علاء الدين "هذه فكرة رائعة ياأبي ، سأنفذها "
وبعد برهة حضر الحاكم مرتديا رداءا فضيا وبدت عليه مظاهر الأبهة والعظمة وخلفه جنده ورجاله. أعطى الحاكم الإذن ببدء المسابقة وبدء كل من الحرفيين في عرض إبتكاره مبينا للحاكم مدى روعته وسرد مزاياه له حتى انتهى اليوم .
وسأل الحاكم "هل بقي هناك من يريد أن يريني إختراعه؟" وفجأة سمع صوتا يقول "أنا أيها الحاكم"
نظر الحاكم ورجاله حولهما محاولين أن يتبينوا من هو صاحب هذا الصوت ولكنهم لم يروا من صاح بهذه الكلمات. فجأة جفل الناس وبدأوا بالصراخ وهم ينظرون ويشيرون إلى الأعلى . فقد ظهر ولد صغير يركب حصانا في السماء .
صاح الناس " إنه الشيطان ... الشيطان جاء ممتطيا حصانا طائرا" وارتعب الناس وجروا هنا وهناك ولكن أبا علاء الدين طمأنهم قائلا "لا تخافوا إنه إبني علاء الدين وهذا هو حصانه الطائر الذي صنعه بنفسه وسوف يهبط به حالا"
هبط علاء الدين في منتصف السوق أمام الحاكم ثم تقدم وانحنى إحتراما للحاكم وقال له "تحياتي أيها الحاكم ، أتمنى أن يكون حصاني قد أعجبك"
إنبهر الحاكم بالحصان ولمسه بيديه وقال "لا أستطيع أن أصدق عيناي ، لو لم أرك تركب هذا الحصان طائرا في الهواء لما صدقت الأمر ، هذه معجزة"
ثم سأل الحاكم علاء الدين "ولكن قل لي ، كيف يطير هذا الحصان الخشبي ؟ " فشرح له علاء الدين كيفية عمل الحصان .
فقال له الحاكم بإعجاب " إنه رائع ، دعني أجرب هذا الحصان الطائر"
إمتطى الحاكم الحصان وطار به فوق السوق والناس يشيرون إليه بانبهار ، ثم هبط به وقال لعلاء الدين " أنت صانع محترف وكفء وأنا أعلنك فائزا بالجائزة الكبرى لهذه المسابقة"
سر الجميع بإعلان الفائز وحصل علاء الدين على الجائزة (ألف دينار) . عندئذ قال الحاكم لعلاء الدين "ما رأيك أن تبيعني هذا الحصان ؟ سوف يفيدني كثيرا في تسيير شئون الدولة والسيطرة على الأمور حيث سأستطيع التنقل بسرعة بين المناطق المختلفة للدولة , سأعطيك ثمنا يجعلك غنيا طوال حياتك ، سأعطيك مائة ألف دينار"
فكر علاء الدين ثم قال "لامانع عندي أيها الحاكم"
فرح الحاكم وهلل بسعادة وقال"إذهب الآن إلى بيتك وسأرسل لك الجنود بالنقود صباح الغد ، أنت تأخذ نقودك وأنا آخذ الحصان الطائر"
غادر الحاكم سعيدا بينما جرى علاء الدين إلى والديه فرحا وقال "لقد أصبحنا أغنياء يا أبي ، بهذه النقود سأشتري قلعة وسنعيش فيها ثلاثتنا كأسعد ما نكون"
عاد أبواه إلى المنزل سعيدين بينما ركب علاء الدين حصانه ليعود به إلى المنزل .
لم يلاحظ علاء الدين ذلك الرجل ذو الملامح القاسية والعينين المخيفتين الذي كان يقف بين الحضور مخفيا ملامحه برداء طويل والذي شاهد كل شيء بدون أن يلحظه أحد .
لم يكن هذا الرجل إلا "حمدان" اللص الشهير الذي إعتاد أن يسرق من الجميع وكان قد خرج لتوه من السجن . وقال حمدان لنفسه " ماأجمل هذا الحصان ، من يملك هذا الحصان فلن يستطيع أحد الإمساك به أبدا مهما كانت الجريمة التي إرتكبها" ثم حدث نفسه قائلا " بهذا الحصان أستطيع سرقة أي أحد حتى الحاكم نفسه ، سأنتقم لنفسي منه فهو الذي دائما ما يلقي بي في السجن "
بدأ حمدان يفكر في خطة ماكرة وانتظر إلى الليل لتنفيذها
عاد علاء الدين إلى منزله مع حصانه الطائر ووضعه في غرفته وتناول العشاء مع أسرته ، كل يحلم بما سيفعله بالمائة ألف دينار التي وعدهم بها الحاكم ثمنا للحصان الطائر
كانت السماء تمطر بغزارة في الخارج لذلك قال الأب " هيا بنا لننام فالجو أصبح باردا جدا"
ولكن في هذه اللحظة سمعوا طرقا على الباب ، تفاجئت الأم وقالت "من هذا الذي يطرق علينا الباب في هذا الوقت المتأخر من الليل؟"
فتح علاء الدين الباب ووجد أمامه رجلا قد أحيط به ، جائع وبردان ، وقال الرجل لعلاء الدين " هل يمكنني قضاء الليل هنا ؟ أنا غريب عن هذه البلاد وليس لي مكان أقضي فيه الليل"
حياه أبو علاء الدين قائلا "تفضل أيها الغريب"
دخل الغريب إلى المنزل ولم يكن إلا حمدان اللص الشهير ، وجلس إلى المدفأة ليحصل على بعض الدفء وأحضر له أبو علاء الدين طعاما للعشاء فأكله بسرعة كبيرة ثم إختلس نظرة إلى حجرة علاء الدين ورأى فيها الحصان الطائر فاطمأن وشعر بالإسترخاء . وبعد ذلك أخرج من جيبه ثلاثة تفاحات أعطاها إلى علاء الدين ووالديه قائلا لهم "أرجو أن تتفضلوا وتأكلوا هذه التفاحات فليس لدي ما أقدمه لكم عرفانا بجميلكم وتفضلكم بالسماح لي بقضاء الليل في منزلكم غيرها"
أكلت الأسرة التفاحات الثلاثة بامتنان وراحوا بعدها في نوم عميق ، فقد وضع اللص منوما في التفاحات فلم يشعر أي من أفراد الأسرة بأي مما يدور حولهم . ذهب اللص حمدان إلى غرفة علاء الدين وأخذ يتأمل الحصان بنظرة يملؤها الإجرام والشر، ثم ركب الحصان وقال في نفسه "الآن لن يستطيع أحد الإمساك بي حتى الحاكم نفسه"
طار اللص بالحصان وهبط به على سطح قلعة الحاكم في هدوء وصمت . كان الحراس واقفين حول أسوار القلعة يحرسونها ولكنهم لم يروا اللص حمدان يهبط فوق القلعة ولم يشعروا حتى بوجوده هناك .
وتسلل حمدان إلى غرفة الحاكم وفتح خزينته المملوءة بالمجوهرات والذهب والنقود ووضع ما فيها في صرة كبيرة وغادر القلعة راكبا الحصان الطائر.
وكان أن رأى أحد الحراس الحصان الطائر يغادر القلعة ولكنه لم يستطع تمييز راكبه نظرا للظلام الذي كان يلف المكان ، لذا صاح قائلا "أنظروا .. هذا هو الحصان الطائر يركبه صاحبه.. إنهما يطيران عبر القلعة " فعلق قائد الحرس قائلا "يبدو أن علاء الدين أتى في زيارة ليحيي الحاكم "
فر اللص حمدان بغنيمته من المجوهرات والذهب والنقود التي سرقها من خزينة الحاكم وسره أن علم أن الحراس ظنوا أنه علاء الدين بسبب الظلام وقال لنفسه "الآن لن يستطيع أحد إتهامي بشيء ولا حتى الحاكم نفسه . يجب أن أهرب الآن وأسرع بالخروج من هذا البلد وأعبر البحر بالحصان الطائر إلى بلد آخر بعيد لا يعرفني فيه أحد وأعيش هناك وسط الأغنياء بفضل هذه الأموال ، بل وأستطيع أن أسرق ما شئت بدون أن يقبض علي" وطار هاربا عبر البحار والجبال .
إستيقظ الحاكم في الصباح سعيدا ومنتشيا لأنه سيحصل على الحصان الطائر . توجه إلى خزينته لإحضار المائة ألف دينار ليشتري بها الحصان ولكنه وجدها خاوية . لايوجد شيء بالخزينة ، لاذهب ولا نقود ولا مجوهرات لذلك صاح مستنجدا بالحراس "النجدة يا حراس ، لقد سرقت ، ذهب كل شئ ، أموالي ومجوهراتي "
لم يستطع الحراس أن يصدقوا فلا يوجد إنسان على وجه الأرض يجرؤ على سرقة خزينة الحاكم بل حتى لا يجرؤ أحد على الإقتراب من أسوار القلعة التي يحمونها بأنفسهم .
صرخ الحاكم غاضبا " هذا غير معقول كيف أمكن للص الدخول إلى هذا المكان ؟"
قال قائد الحرس "لابد أنه علاء الدين صاحب الحصان الطائر " وأخبر الحاكم بقصة رؤية الحرس للحصان الطائر فوق القلعة أثناء الليل . عندئذ صاح الحاكم غاضبا "إنه علاء الدين إذن ، أتى وسرق المال والمجوهرات راكبا حصانه الطائر ظانا أن لن يره أحد . اللص الخبيث. ألهذا الغرض صنع حصانه الطائر ؟ وبالطبع ساعده أبوه في صنعه ، إذهبوا فاقبضوا عليهما وأتوني بهما الإثنين ومعهما الحصان الطائر أيضا "
هرع الحراس لتنفيذ ما أمرهم به الحاكم .
إستيقظ علاء الدين وهو يشعر بشعور غريب في رأسه ولاحظ أنه كان نائما على الأرض وأبواه بجواره . لم يكن هناك أي أثر له ولا حتى ما يدل على إستضافتهم له بالأمس . تعجب علاء الدين ولم يدر ما حدث له ولعائلته بالأمس وجعلهم ينامون بهذه الطريقة الغريبة . دخل إلى غرفته ولم يجد الحصان الطائر ، عندئذ أدرك أن ضيف الليلة الماضية كان لصا وأن التفاحات المنومة كانت السبب في أن يناموا هكذا.
أيقظ علاء الدين أبويه وأخبرهم ولم يكادوا يصدقوا ما حدث . وفي تلك اللحظة أتى حراس الحاكم وبحثوا في كل مكان فلم يجدوا الحصان الطائر فقبضوا على علاء الدين ووالديه وساقوهم إلى الحاكم .
وعندما دخلوا إلى الحاكم قال قائد الحرس "لم نعثر على الحصان الطائر في منزلهم" ، وصاح الحاكم غاضبا في والدي علاء الدين " أيها اللصوص ، لقد صنعتم الحصان الطائر ليسهل لإبنكم سرقة الخزينة أثناء الليل ظنا منكم أن لن يراه أحد ولكن لحسن الحظ رآه حراسي "
توسل إليه علاء الدين قائلا "لست أنا من سرق خزينتك أيها الحاكم ، أرجوك أن تصدقني ، فليس لي أو لعائلتي صلة بما حدث "
حاول علاء الدين جاهدا أن يشرح للحاكم ما حدث إلا أن الحاكم لم يسمع له وقال لحراسه "ضعوهم في السجن حتى يعترفوا بالمكان الذي أخفوا فيه المسروقات وإلا سأعدمهم"
أخذ الحراس أسرة علاء الدين إلى السجن ، وفي الطريق همس علاء الدين لوالديه قائلا "لن يستطيع أحد أن يظهر الحقيقة إلا أنا ، سأهرب وأبحث عن ذلك اللص الذي سرق الحصان ونقود الحاكم وجواهره وأحضره معي ليقول الحقيقة ويفرج الحاكم عنكما"
أسقط علاء الدين أحد الحراس من على فرسه وهرب بالفرس . هرع الحراس خلفه ولكن لم يلحقوا به فعادوا ليضعوا والدي علاء الدين في السجن وأخبروا الحاكم بما حدث فأمر بالبحث عن علاء الدين ورصد جائزة كبيرة لمن يرشد عن مكانه وأعلن أنه إذا لم يعد علاء الدين الأموال والمجوهرات المسروقة فإن أبواه سيعدمان وأعطي مهلة سنة لفعل ذلك.
إختبأ علاء الدين وتنكر في زي صياد حتى لا يعرفه أحد وبدأ في التنقل بين البلاد البعيدة سائلا الناس إذا ما قد شاهدوا رجلا يركب حصانا يطير والناس يضحكون منه "حصان يطير ؟ هل هناك حصان يطير؟ ذلك شيء لم نسمع به من قبل إلا في كتب الأساطير" ثم يتركوه بعد أن يهزأوا به ظانين أنه مجنون
لم يستطع علاء الدين العودة إلى منزله أو صنع حصان آخر لأن حراس الحاكم أخذوا كل الكتب والأدوات ونصبوا له كمينا بالمنزل ليقبضوا عليه حال دخوله ، لذلك لم يكن لديه أي خيار آخر غير الإستمرار في البحث عن اللص قبل إنتهاء المهلة التي أعطاه إياها الحاكم وهي سنة واحدة ، وقد قضى كل وقته في البحث ولكن بدون جدوى .
وذات يوم ذهب علاء الدين إلى شاطئ البحر وكان متعبا وجائعا لم يأكل منذ عدة أيام وكان يسير ليلا و نهارا ، ورآه صياد عجوز كان عائدا من رحلة صيد فأشفق عليه وأطعمه من الأسماك القليلة التي اصطادها حيث شواها وأكل منها علاء الدين شاكرا له
سأل الصياد علاء الدين عن قصته فحكى له ما جرى له وقال بحزن "لابد أنك تظن الآن أنني مجنون كما ظن كل من حكيت لهم عن حصاني الطائر "
قال الصياد العجوز "لا يابني ، لا شك عندي في أن قصتك صحيحة لأني رأيت الحصان الطائر بأم عيني وظننت حينها أني أتوهم أو أتخيل أشياء غير موجودة"
سأله علاء الدين بلهفة "وأين رأيت الحصان الطائر ؟ " فأجاب الصياد العجوز "منذ عدة أشهر ذهبت للصيد كالمعتاد وكان الظلام يلف المكان ولم تكن الشمس قد أشرقت بعد ورأيت في ضوء الفجر حصانا يطير في السماء يمتطيه رجل يرتدي ملابس سوداء ثم إختفى وراء الأفق . ظننت حينها أن عيناي تخدعاني ولكني أدركت الآن أن مارأيته كان حقيقيا "
قال الرجل وهو يشير إلى السماء " لقد طارا نحو الشرق ، من هذه الناحية متجهان نحو مدينة الزهور التي تقع على الشاطئ المقابل للبحر والتي لا يعيش بها إلا الأغنياء من الناس "
شكر علاء الدين الصياد الطيب وأسرع إلى أقرب سفينة متجهة إلى مدينة الزهور وعرض على قبطانها أن يعمل على السفينة مقابل أن ينقله إلى المدينة فوافق القبطان .
غادرت السفينة وبعد شهرين وصلت إلى مدينة الزهور.
شكر علاء الدين القبطان واقترب من أسوار البلدة ووجد أنها مدينة رائعة فشوارعها وجدرانها تحيط بها الزهور والياسمين.
لقد كانت مدينة كبيرة ، ووقف علاء الدين مذهولا يسأل نفسه "كيف لي أن أجد حصاني الطائر واللص في هذه المدينة الكبيرة ؟
إمتلأت عيناه بالدموع وقال لنفسه " أتمنى ألا يكون اللص قد غادر المدينة إلى مدينة أخرى حيث يستحيل علي العثور عليه فلم يعد لدي وقت كاف للبحث قبل إنقضاء المهلة التي أعطانيها الحاكم قبل إعدام والدي "
إقترب علاء الدين من إمرأة عجوز تبيع الزهور وعقود الياسمين وسألها "أيتها المرأة الطيبة ، هل تعرفين رجلا يمتلك حصانا خشبيا يطير في هذه المدينة؟"
فوجئت المرأة بالسؤال الغريب وقالت له "وهل هناك حصان خشبي يطير في هذه البلدة للبحث عنه ؟ هل أنت مجنون؟"
ونظرت إلى علاء الدين في دهشة فتركها وذهب . ونعته بالجنون كل من سأله عن الحصان الخشبي الذي يطير . في الليل شعر علاء الدين بالإحباط وجلس تحت شرفة أحد المنازل مغطيا وجهه بيديه فسمع رجل وامرأته يتجادلان ، كان الرجل يقول لزوجته "لا تنسي أن تغلقي النوافذ والأبواب جيدا قبل أن ننام ، فقد سرق العديد من المنازل مؤخرا " فقالت الزوجة " وما الفائدة من غلق الأبواب والنوافذ؟ إن العديد من بيوت أقاربنا وأصدقاؤنا سرقت بينما كانت الأبواب والنوافذ مغلقة في الليل ، الناس سيصيبهم الجنون ، يقولون أن اللص يهبط من السماء "
سمع علاء الدين ما قاله الزوجان وعرف أن اللص موجود بهذه المدينة وأنه يستخدم الحصان الطائر في سرقة المنازل تمام كما سرق قلعة الحاكم .
كان علاء الدين مصمما على العثور على اللص والإمساك به لذلك ذهب إلى حديقة كبيرة وظل يراقب سماء المدينة آملا أن يرى الحصان الطائر
وبعد برهة وجيزة رأى علاء الدين نقطة سوداء تتحرك في السماء مثل طائر أسود اللون ، كانت لا تكاد ترى في ظلمة الليل ثم بدأت النقطة السوداء تقترب وتكبر شيئا فشيئا حتى أصبح علاء الدين قادرا على تمييز تفاصيلها لقد كان حصانه الطائر بعينه طلاه اللص حمدان باللون الأسود وكان يركبه إستعدادا لسرقة جديدة بدون أن يراه أحد .
طار الحصان بعيدا وجرى علاء الدين بكل جهده محاولا الإقتراب منه لئلا يفقد أثره . أخيرا هبط الحصان فوق سطح منزل أحد الأغنياء . وقف علاء الدين بعيدا فهو لا يستطيع أن يخبر أصحاب المنزل حتى لا يفر اللص طائرا من على السطح ، ولا يستطيع أيضا أن يصعد إلى سطح المنزل حيث يوجد الحصان
وبعد فترة خرج اللص حمدان من المنزل حاملا ما سرقه وركب الحصان وطار في السماء ، جرى علاء الدين خلفه بأسرع ما أمكنه لكيلا يفقد أثره
أخيرا هبط الحصان في فناء منزل يبدو كأنه قلعة كبيرة واختفى بداخل المنزل ، عرف علاء الدين أن هذا هو منزل اللص حمدان إشتراه ببعض من الأموال التي سرقها من قلعة الحاكم ، لذلك قرر الإمساك باللص عندما يخلد إلى النوم .
أسرع علاء الدين إلى الشرطي وأبلغه أنه يعلم اللص الذي يسرق المنازل في الليل وأخبره أيضا عن الحصان الطائر الذي يستخدمه اللص في سرقة المنازل فاندهش الشرطي وقال "هل أنت مجنون أيها الصبي ؟ هل يوجد حصان يطير ؟ إذهب عني وإلا وضعتك في السجن "
ترك علاء الدين المكان وهو يشعر بالأسى والإحباط الشديد . لقد أصبح عليه أن يقوم بالقبض على اللص بنفسه ، لذلك ذهب إلى منزل اللص حمدان ودخل من نافذة مفتوحة ورأى حصانه الخشبي الطائر وسمع صوت اللص حمدان في غرفته يعد ما سرق من الأموال . كان اللص حمدان سعيدا وهو يعد ما سرق ويقول لنفسه " لقد أصبحت الآن من أغنى الأغنياء عندى من الأموال والمجوهرات أكثر مما عند الملوك والأمراء . غدا سأذهب إلى مدينة أخرى مع حصاني الطائر وأسرق بيوتها بدون أن يراني أحد"
غضب علاء الدين مما سمع غضبا شديدا واقترب من غرفة اللص حمدان وصاح " أيها المجرم ، هل تظن أنك ستستمر في جرائمك بدون أن يمسك بك الناس ؟ "
ذهل حمدان لرؤية علاء الدين وقال له "كيف دخلت إلى هنا ؟"
قال له علاء الدين " لقد تبعتك حتى وصلت إلى هنا وسأقبض عليك وآخذك إلى الحاكم لتعترف أمامه بأنك من سرق خزينته حتى يطلق سراح والدي ولا يقتلهما "
صاح به حمدان غاضبا " أيها الأحمق ، هل تعتقد أني سأدعك تجبرني على فعل ذلك ؟ سأقتلك الآن وأغادر هذا المكان فورا فلا يعلم أحد بما حدث."
أمسك حمدان برقبة علاء الدين الذي عاجله بضربة من حجر كان يمسك به بيده ، تراجع حمدان إلى الخلف وحمل سكينا وجرى نحو علاء الدين . جرى علاء الدين بسرعة وركب الحصان وطار به . جرى اللص وقفز ليمسك بالحصان واستطاع أن يمسك برجله . طار الحصان عاليا ولم يعد حمدان قادرا أن يحكم قبضته فهوى إلى الأرض وكسر ساقه .
هبط علاء الدين بالحصان وقيد يدي اللص حمدان ثم نادى الشرطي وأراه المسروقات فاندهش الشرطي وخاصة عندما رأى الحصان الطائر .
قال علاء الدين للشرطي " أرجوك يا سيدي أن تدعني آخذ اللص حمدان إلى بلدي حتى يرى الجميع أن والدي غير مذنبين فأنقذهم من حكم الإعدام "
وافق الشرطي وأخذ علاء الدين اللص حمدان وما سرقه من الحاكم على حصانه وطار بهم إلى بلده والناس في المدينة ينظرون في عجب .
طار علاء الدين بأسرع ما يمكنه في الصباح الباكر نظرا لأنه لم يكن قد تبقى له إلا عدة ساعات قبل إنقضاء مهلة الحاكم .

Aladdin and the Flying Horse
Long ago, there was a carpenter known for his skill and handicraft. He had become famous in the city for his delicately beautiful and exquisite crafts. He was making tables, chairs, cupboards, and decorating them. His fame spread widely and people were competing to get his crafts.
The carpenter had a wife that helped him in his work, and a son of 13 years named Aladdin. The carpenter had taught his son to master the art of carpentry until his skilled matched his father’s. He started making beautiful things out of wood. Along with carpentry, Aladdin loved reading, science, and mechanics, and he rose above his peers and surpassed them in understanding and knowledge.
One day, in the markets of the city and in the merchant cities, Aladdin had learned of a competition for all craftsmen, ironworkers and the like. It was an opportunity for everyone to show off their talents and skills. There was a worthy award offered by the mayor of the city for the winner of the competition.
The professionals from cities of the kingdom had started crafting different and unique things. Except that the people laughed and said, no one will be able get this prize except for Aladdin’s father, Abu Aladdin, because there isn’t one to match his skill.
Except Abu Aladdin didn’t care what the people were saying. His son said to him, “Father, why won’t you participate in this competition? No one will be able to beat you, and the great prize will be yours. Whatever it is that you make, it will surely be unique and different and no one of Adam will be able to produce anything like it.”
So his father said to him, “Why don’t you participate instead of me? It will be a test of your abilities and skills. Your mother and I have decided this, so do not disappoint us.”
Aladdin agreed and started preparing for the competition and went to his workshop, and it was full of wood and screws, saws, and hammers. And there were also pieces of metal, gears, bolts, wires, and several books about natural science and mechanics. The room also contained several little things that Aladdin had crafted before then, like a the wall clock with a bird that came out every half hour to announce the time, and a wooden monkey carrying a drum; it had a moving arm on a spring that beat the drum, and there was a wooden horse that moved like a robot and opened and shut its mouth as if it were whinnying.
But he said to himself, “I want to fulfill father’s aspirations, so I should invent something never before seen by my people, and this thing should be unique and great and impress all who look upon it, and with it I shall win the prize.”
Aladdin began to think about what he would create, but he couldn’t think of anything. He got tired of thinking so he relaxed into a deep sleep while he sat in place. While he was sleeping in
While he was sleeping he had a strange dream, he saw himself riding his small wooden horse that was galloping extremely fast in the fields and the prairies, racing ahead of all the other animals—even the lions and the tigers. No one around him could match his speed. Suddenly, he saw in front of him a sea, and he expected the horse to slow down, but it didn’t! It maintained its speed, and he yelled to try and stop it. He wasn’t able to stop the horse, but when he reached the shoreline, the horse grew wings much like the wings of a bird. With its wings, the horse flew above the water of the sea as if it had been a big eagle or hawk. Aladdin clung to the horse in fear that he would fall from it and end up in the sea. The horse crossed the sea and flew high above the mainland until it vanished in the middle of a cloud.
Aladdin woke from his sleep with a start, and the first thing that he saw was his wooden horse that was standing in its place, unmoving.
Aladdin brushed off the sweat and said to himself, “What a strange dream… A flying wooden horse, surely no one has ever heard of such a thing before. No one will be able to produce anything like it.”
He thought, and then said to himself, “If any human were to craft anything like this flying horse, he would surely win the whole competition and the big prize.”
“But, could man really produce this flying horse whatever his dexterity may be?”
Aladdin’s books and tools were spread out in front of him as if they were calling him, and inviting him to give it a try. He jumped from his bed with complete determination and purpose and said, “I will try to make the flying horse, and if I can it will be miraculous. I will try to use all of what I have read and learned for to this end.”
Aladdin started working on the flying horse immediately.
Aladdin spent several days on making the new horse. The horse was actual size and had both saddle and reign. As for its detail, the wooden horse looked real: its legs were of radiant ivory, and a strong spring moved them all.
He made the wings with wooden veneering that could be spread and lowered to the horses sides when it wasn’t flying—just like how the birds extend their wings and flap them up and down with great speed—so that that the horse could carry the weight of its rider through the air.
Aladdin secured the wings in the horse’s stomach using strong springs to move them.
Finally, he finished making the horse—but he hadn’t tested it yet. Aladdin left his workshop after several days spent working on the horse without stop. His father called to him so that they could see what he made, and they couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the flying horse.
Aladdin was mounted upon his horse which he had moved in front of the window—he started the engine and the horse started moving.
Aladdin’s mother yelled out, “Be careful Aladdin!”
The horse moved and rose from the ground with its strong wings and it flew around the house several times. His parents couldn’t believe their eyes, and they felt as if they were in an amazing dream.
Aladdin and his horse landed in the back yard of the houseand his mother rushed to him and embraced him while his father tended to the horse with surprise and wonder and said, “This horse is truly amazing! We should hide it since only a few days remain before the start of the competition. I swear this will earn the big prize, and everyone will be talking about it.”
The family hid the flying horse inside the house and didn’t tell anyone about until the day of the competition, which was held in the biggest markets of the city, and every craftsman went there bringing what they had made. Everything was so beautiful and ingenious.
And Aladdin said to his father, “Father, let’s go see the judging of our flying horse.”
But his father said to him, “I have an idea that will impress the mayor and the spectators and will make you win the prize, without fail.”
His father told him what he had to do, and Aladdin said to him, “This is a phenomenal idea, father! I will do it.”
After a while, the mayor appeared wearing a silver robe, and he seemed to be a manifestation of splendor and greatness. Behind him were his soldiers and his men.
The mayor gave permission to start the competition, and each craftsman began showing his invention to the mayor to the extent of its magnificence, and listing its advantages until the end of the day.
The mayor asked, “Is there anyone else that would like to show me their invention?” Suddenly he heard a voice say, “I would, mayor”.
The mayor and his men looked around to figure out whom the voice belonged to, but they couldn’t see who yelled out. All of the sudden, the crowd jumped back and started screaming, and they were looking and pointing up into the air. A small boy riding a horse appeared in the sky.
The people yelled, “It’s Satan! Satan has come upon a flying horse!” The people were scared and ran to and fro. But Abu Aladdin reassured them saying, “No, that is my son, Aladdin, and this is his flying horse which he made himself, and he will land it in a moment”.
Aladdin landed in the middle of the marketplace in front of the mayor. Then he came forward and bowed respectfully to the mayor, and said to him, “Greetings, mayor, I hope that my horse has astonished you.”
The mayor was impressed with the horse. He felt it with his hands and said, “I cannot believe my eyes. If I hadn’t have seen you riding the horse in the sky, I wouldn’t have believed it. This is miraculous.”
Then, the mayor asked Aladdin, “But tell me, how does this wooden horse fly?” So Aladdin explained how the horse worked.
The mayor said with amazement, “This is magnificent indeed! Allow me to try out this wooden horse.”
The mayor mounted the horse and flew it above the marketplace, and the impressed people were pointing to it. Then, he landed it and said to Aladdin, “Would you consider selling me this horse? It will assist me greatly in running the country and controlling things, and I will be able to move quickly between different areas of the country. I will give you a price that will make you rich for the rest of your life. I will give you one-hundred thousand dollars.”
Aladdin thought and then said, “I have no objection to that, mayor.”
So the mayor was happy and cheered with joy saying, “Go now to your house and I will send you the soldiers with the money tomorrow morning. You take your money, and I take the flying horse.”
The mayor left happy, while Aladdin ran to his parents rejoicing and said, “We are rich, father! With this money, I will buy a castle and all three of us will live there happily ever after.”
His parents returned home happy, while Aladdin rode his horse.
Aladdin didn’t notice the man with harsh features and scary eyes that was standing between the frightened spectators. He was wearing a long robe and could see everything without anyone noticing him.
This man was no other than, “Hamdan”—the infamous thief that used to steal from everyone and just got out of prison. Hamdan said to himself, “How beautiful this horse is. Whoever owned this horse, no one would be able to catch him no matter what crime he committed.” Then he talked to himself saying, “With this horse I can rob anyone, even the mayor himself! I will get my revenge on him because he is the one who always throws me in prison.”
Hamdan started thinking up a cunning plan and waited until night to carry it out.
Aladdin returned to his house with his flying horse and put it in his room, and then he ate dinner with his family. Each of them dreamed of what they would do with the one-hundred thousand dollars that the mayor had promised them as a price for the flying horse.
It was raining heavily outside, so the father said, “Let’s all go to sleep, the weather has become very cold.”
But at the moment, they heard a rap at the door. The mother was startled and said, “What could be rapping at our door this late in the evening?”
Aladdin opened the door and encountered a man looming over him, hungry and cold. The man said to Aladdin, “May I stay the night here? I am new to this country and I don’t have a place to stay tonight.”
Abu Aladdin welcomed him saying, “Come on in, stranger”.
The stranger, who was none other than Hamdan, the infamous thief, entered the house and sat next to the fireplace to warm up a little. Abu Aladdin fetched him some food for dinner, and he ate it very quickly. Then he peered into Aladdin’s workshop and saw the flying horse. He was reassured and felt relaxed. After that he pulled three apples out of his pocket, which he gave to Aladdin and his parents, saying to them, “I hope that you all eat these apples—I don’t have much to give as thanks for your hospitality and generosity in letting me stay in your house tonight and whatnot.
The family ate the three apples with gratitude, and after that they relaxed into a deep sleep. The thief had put sleeping pills in the apples and no one in the family was aware of anything that was going on around them. Hamdan the Thief went to Aladdin’s room and began taking in the horse with his evil crime-filled eyes. Then, he mounted the horse and said to himself, “Now, no one will be able to catch me, not even the mayor himself!”
The thief flew the horse, and landed upon the mayor’s castle—calmly and silently. The guards were standing around the walls of the castle, guarding it. They didn’t see the thief, Hamdan, land on top of the castle and no one knew he was there.
The thief climbed into the mayor’s room and open his safe filled with gold, jewels, and money. He put what was there into a big purse and left the castle, riding the flying horse.
One of the guards had seen the flying horse leaving the castle, but he couldn’t make out who was riding it in the surrounding darkness. So he yelled out, “Look at who’s riding the flying horse, they are flying over the castle.
The Guard Commander commented, “It appears that Aladdin has come for a visit to see the mayor.”
Hamdan the Thief got away with his plunder—the jewels, the gold, and the money—which he stole from the mayor’s safe. He was delighted to know that the guards suspected him to be Aladdin because of the darkness, and he said to himself, “Now no one can accuse me of anything, not even the mayor himself! Now I should flee, and make haste to leave this country. I will cross the sea with this flying horse to another country, far far away where no one knows me, and I will live there among the rich—thanks to this money! I’ll be able to steal whatever I want without getting caught.” So he flew away, fleeing across the seas and mountains.
The mayor awoke the next morning extremely happy, because he would be getting the flying horse. He turned toward his safe to get the one-hundred thousand dollars to buy the horse, but all that he found was air. Nothin is there! Not gold, not money, not jewels. So he yelled to rally up the guards, “Guards, help! I’ve been robbed! Everything is gone, my money and my jewels!”
The guards couldn’t believe it. No human on the face of the earth would dare rob the mayor’s safe. In fact, no one would dare to even approach the walls of the castle, which they themselves protected.
The mayor cried out angrily, “This isn’t right! How could the thief break into this place?”
The Guard Commander said, “It must have been Aladdin, owner of the flying horse.” The guard told the mayor the story about the flying horse above the castle in the night. Then, they mayor screamed with anger, “It must be Aladdin. He is the one who came and stole the money and the jewels, riding upon his flying horse, thinking that no one would see him. That sly thief! Is this why he made a flying horse? Of course his father is happy that he made it. Go and seize them both, and bring with them the flying horse!”
The guards hurried off to do what the mayor had ordered.
Aladdin woke up and his head felt weird. He noticed that he had slept on the floor, and his parents were next to him. There was no sign that they had hosted anyone the night before. Aladdin was surprised and couldn’t figure out what happened to him and his family, or what made them sleep in such a strange way. He went into his room and didn’t find the flying horse. Then, he realized that their guest in the night was a thief, and that the apples were the reason that they were sleeping in such a way.
Aladdin woke his parents and told them, and they didn’t believe what had happened. In that moment, the mayor’s guards came and searched everywhere. They didn’t find the horse. Then they seized Aladdin and his parents and took them to the mayor.
As they entered—approaching the mayor, the Guard Commander said, “We didn’t find the flying horse in the house.” They mayor yelled furiously at Aladdin’s parents, “You thieves! You made a flying horse to make it easier for your son to rob my safe during the night, thinking that no one would see. But luckily, my guards saw you!”
Aladdin begged, “It wasn’t me that robbed your safe, mayor! Please, believe me. My family and I have nothing to do with what happened.”
Aladdin tried to make an effort to explain to the mayor what happened, but the mayor didn’t listen to him and said, “Guards, put them in jail until they confess where they hid the stolen items, or be put to death.”
The guards took Aladdin’s family to jail. Along the way, Aladdin whispered to his family, “No one knows the truth except me. I will escape and search for the thief who stole the flying horse, the mayor’s money, and his jewels, and bring them with me to show the mayor the truth, and then he will set you free.”
Aladdin knocked one of the guards off of his horse, and then fled with it. The guards turned around and went after him, but they couldn’t keep up, so they turned back to put Aladdin’s parents in jail. They told the mayor what happened, so he ordered them to look for Aladdin. He put out a large reward for whoever would give up Aladdin’s location, and he announced that if Aladdin did not return with his money and jewels within one year’s time, his parents would be executed.
Aladdin hid and disguised himself in hunting clothes until no one knew him. He began moving between the distant countries, asking people if they had seen a man riding a flying horse. They laughed, “Flying horse? Is there a flying horse? We’ve never heard of one before, except for in fantasy books.” They sneered at him and thought he was crazy, so he left.
Aladdin could’t go back to his house and make another flying horse because the mayor’s guards took all the books and tools to set up a trap for him in the house, so that could capture him as soon as he entered. So, there was nothing left for him to do but to keep searching for the thief before the end of the mayor’s one-year time limit. He still had all the time left to search, but it wouldn’t be easy.
One day, Aladdin went to the seashore, tired and hungry. He hadn’t eaten for several days while he walked all day and night. An old fisherman saw him while he returned from a fishing trip, and he pitied him. He fed Aladdin with the few fish that he had caught and roasted. Aladdin ate the fish, and he was very thankful for it.
The fisherman asked Aladdin about his story, so Aladdin told him what happened and said sadly, “You must think that I’m crazy now, just like how they others thought I was crazy when I told them about my flying horse.”
The old fisherman said, “No, my boy. I have no doubt that your story is true, because I saw a flying horse with my own eyes. At the time, I thought that I was just imagining things.”
Aladdin asked him eagerly, “Where did you see the flying horse?” The old fisherman replied, “Several months ago, I went fishing as usual. I was getting dark out, but the sun had not yet set. In the light of the sunset, I saw a flying horse in the sky, and riding it was a man wearing all black. Then, it disappeared over the horizon. At the time, I believed my eyes were deceiving me, but now I know that what I saw was true!”
Pointing toward the sky, the man said, “He had been flying to the east. From here, that would be heading toward the City of Flowers. It’s located in front of the seashore and no one lives there except the richest people.”
Aladdin thanked the nice fisherman, and hurried off to board a ship heading for Flowers. He offered to work for the captain aboard the ship in exchange for a ride to the city, and the captain accepted.
The ship departed, and after two months it reached the City Flowers.
Aladdin thanked the captain, and went to the city walls. He found it to be a magnificent city –its roads and walls were surrounded by flowers and jasmine. The city had been large and Aladdin just stood there, astonished. He asked himself, “How could I possibly find my flying horse and that thief in such a large city?”
His eyes were filled with tears as he said to himself, “I hope the thief hasn’t left the city to go to another. It would be impossible for me to find him. It won’t be long before the mayor’s time limit is through, and my parents are put to death”.
Aladdin approached an old woman selling flowers and bunches of jasmine, and he asked her, “Do you know of a man who owns a flying wooden horse in this city?”
The woman was surprised by the strange question and said to him, “Is there a flying wooden horse in the city to search for? Are you crazy?”
She looked at Aladdin in surprise, so he left her. Everyone one of those whom he asked about the flying wooden horse called him crazy. In the evening, Aladdin felt hopeless and he sat down beneath a balcony of one of the rich houses, and he covered his face with his hands. He heard a man and a woman arguing—the man was saying to his wife, “Don’t forget to lock the doors and the windows securely before we go to bed, many houses have been robbed lately.” His wife replied, “And what’s the use of locking the doors and windows? Several of the houses next to us and our friends have been robbed in the night while their windows were locked. And the people call them crazy, saying that the thief came out of the sky.”
Aladdin heard what the couple had said and knew that the thief was in the city, and that he was using the flying horse to rob the houses thoroughly, just like how he robbed the mayors castle.
Aladdin was determined to find the thief and capture him. So, he went to a big garden and lay staring into the city sky, hoping to see the flying horse.
After a short while, Aladdin saw a black dot moving in the sky like a black bird—he could just barely see it in the dark of the night. Then it started getting closer and getting bigger and bigger, until Aladdin was able to make out its features—it was the flying horse and the thief, Hamdan. He was riding it in black preparing for a new robbery, and no one saw him.
The horse flew away and Aladdin ran as fast as he could so as not to lose sight of it. Finally, the horse landed on the roof of a wealthy house. Aladdin stopped far off, and he couldn’t tell the owners of the house to not let the thief get away, and he couldn’t get up to the roof to where the horse was.
After some time, the Hamdan the Thief left the house carrying what he had plundered. He mounted the horse and flew into the sky. Again, Aladdin ran behind it as fast as he could, so he wouldn’t lose it.
Finally, the horse landed in the yard of what appeared to be a large castle, and then he vanished inside the house. Aladdin knew that this was the home of Hamdan, purchased with some of the money stolen from the mayor’s castle. So, he decided to snatch the thief while he was sound asleep.
Aladdin hurried to the police and notified them of the thief that was robbing the homes in the night, and also told him of the flying horse that the thief used to rob the houses. The policeman was surprised and said, “Are you crazy, boy? Does a flying horse even exist? Get away from me before I put you in jail.”
Aladdin left the place feeling gloomy and very frustrated. It was now up to him to capture the thief. So he went to the thief’s house and went through an open window. He saw his flying wooden horse and heard the thief’s voice in his room, counting the stolen money. Hamdan the Thief was happy as he counted, saying to himself, “I have become the richest of the rich! I have more money and jewels than the kings and princes. Tomorrow will go to another city with my flying horse and rob its houses—and no one will see me!”
Aladdin was angered from what he heard—very, very angry. He approached the thief’s room and shouted, “Hey criminal! Did you think you could just keeping committing crimes without anyone catching you?”
Hamdan was shocked at seeing Aladdin and said to him, “How did you get in here?”
Aladdin said to him, “I followed you until I arrived here. I will arrest you and take you to the mayor so you can confess that you robbed his safe. Then he will free my parents, and they won’t be killed.”
Hamdan screamed at him furiously, “You fool! Do you think I’ll let you do that after what you’ve told me? I will kill you now and leave this place at once, and no one will find out what happened.”
Hamdan grabbed Aladdin by the neck, which he countered with a blow from the rock in his hand. Hamdan stepped back, pulled out a knife, and ran toward Aladdin. Aladdin ran quickly and mounted his flying horse and flew. The thief ran and jumped and grabbed for the horse. He was able to grab hold of one of its legs. The horse flew high up and Hamdan wasn’t able to hold his grip—he fell to the ground and broke his leg.
Aladdin landed the horse and bound the thief’s hands. Then, he called the police, and he saw the stolen items. The policeman was surprised, especially when he saw the flying horse.”
Aladdin said to the officer, “Officer, please let me take the thief back to my country so everyone can see that my parents are not to blame. Then I will save them from execution.”
The officer agreed and Aladdin took the thief and what he had stolen from the mayor upon his horse, and flew to his country. The people in the city were watching in awe.
Aladdin flew as fast as he could the next morning since only a few hours remained before the mayor’s time limit was up.
