German to English: Fachgebiete: Endokrinologie General field: Medical
Translation - English DEFINITIONS: Endocrinology

2. Endocrinology is the scientific and clinical study of hormones.
Medical field:
Endocrinology focuses on the examination of hormonal signal transmission systems with genetic, molecular-biological, biochemical, pharmacological, cybernetic and statistic methods on the one hand, and, with respect to clinical application, on the diagnostics, the therapy and the prophylaxis of hormonal diseases and dysfunctions of the hormonal system.
Differentiation and funtional classification
In the clinical field, endocrinology is not only a particular sub-discipline of internal medicine, but also gynaecology, urology, paediatrics, nuclear medicine and surgery. Furthermore, it touches on neurology, psychiatry and intensive care. Sciences that are concerned with questions related to endocrinology are physiology, biochemistry, and outside the medical field zoology and botany. Important fields of endocrinology are diabetology, thyreology, neuroendocrinology, paediatric endocrinology and reproductive endocrinology.
