Short bio

I am a joyful woman, passionate about multicultural communication, sociology and languages.
Living in the very touristic city of Paris, France, communication in a multicultural environment is something I have been familiar with at an early age. My mother raised me as a bilingual child, and while I am a native French speaker, I can also provide accurate translation into English.

I started studying Japanese language on my own as a college student after learning German, English and Spanish at school, because of my interest for ideogram based languages. After obtaining my Baccalaureate, I pursued Japanese studies at INALCO, Paris, with a particular interest in fields such as translation, sociology and politics. During that time, I traveled to Japan three times with my husband. After I graduated, we decided to settle in Japan to satisfy our love for the wonderful culture and landscapes of this country.

While I was studying Japanese, translation became a way for me to share information on topics that caught my interest. I would translate Japanese and English press articles on Japanese sociology studies, short yonkoma style manga, and more recently, Japanese cellphone provider SoftBank's commercials, which I subtitled for a French audience.

Work Experience

During my time at the University, I occasionally did some website localization and press article translation.

My first real work experience included English and French proofreading for a French consulting agency specialized in Health and Safety at work.

I also worked for one year as an administrative clerk at a Japanese bilingual kindergarten, where I was tasked with the English translation of all necessary paperwork, procedures, and teaching materials. Additionally, I was partly in charge of the website translation/renewal. Besides, I acted as an interpreter between the kindergarten's Japanese staff and English speaking teachers when necessary.

In May 2014 I was asked to create English subtitles for an independent Japanese movie titled Gesshin no Kazumi - or Moonquake in English. This was my first experience as a professional translator, and it turned out to be a very positive experience. This movie will be shown at the Hamburg Film Festival this year.

I am now working as an English to French and Japanese to English translator with, with positive reviews in both pairs.

Fields of expertise

My main fields of expertise are Social sciences, Education, Literacy and Politics, but I am also familiar with Computers (especially networks/web) and Marketing.

Depending on what kind of translation I am requested to complete, I can work with CAT tool Trados, Microsoft Word and Excel, or WYSIWYG editing software QuarkXPress.

I can also proofread your translations in French.

Please feel free to contact me anytime, in English, French or Japanese.
