Source text - English The Pays de la Loire is a region that everyone has heard of due to its beautiful chateaux, but it has much more to offer. Comprising Maine and Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe, Loire Atlantique and the Vendée, the Pays de la Loire region apart from its splendid chateaux also has seaside resorts, charming fishing ports, and salt marsh islands such as Noirmoutier Island.
However the Loire Chateaux are the region’s main attraction and they even listed as world cultural sites by Unesco. Also called ‘the Garden of France’, the Loire valley was the site of residence of the French kings during the Renaissance which explains the high concentration of chateaux in this region. Among the most well known are Chenonceau, Chambord, Amboise and Azay-le-Rideau.
The historical side of the Pays de la Loire is its greatest asset; it boasts numerous cultural monuments and historical buildings such as the Abbeys at Solesme and Fontevraud as well as the cathedral Saint Julien du Mans. The history of France and this region is in fact the main theme of one of the most visited theme parks in France; the Puy du Fou.
