Source text - Spanish En el presente paper propongo que una de las aproximaciones más fecundas de acercarse a la religión evangélica pentecostal sea bajo la metáfora del “recurso”. Esta interpretación sociológica no queda lejos, sino más bien en total consonancia, de los propósitos espirituales de todos los sujetos que colectivamente han participado en la edificación de la religión evangélica. Recordemos que el evangelismo nació en el S. XIX, como un intento de acercar la religión cristiana a los desheredados del Mundo moderno y es producto de un esfuerzo de hacer que la religión vuelva a jugar un papel prominente en la vida de estos. No obstante, con la evolución del evangelismo y el nacimiento del pentecostalismo y la apropiación de este por parte de diferentes grupos sociales la intención primigenia de los reformadores evangélicos se vio sustituida por la apropiación y las agencias de los actores sociales que plasman en la formulación evangélicas sus “habitus” particulares e incorporan los contextos concretos de los que participan. Esta idea de recurso cobra sentido en el marco de la identificación de la religión evangélica pentecostal como una “turning point religión”, que habilita a las comunidades e individuos a realizar un tránsito religiosamente mediado (new born) especialmente relevante en contextos de acelerado cambio social y cultural o cambios drásticos en los entornos (desplazamientos entornos rural-urbano y/o migraciones) de estos. Aquí no estoy presentando una sociología del conversionismo que concibe a la religión de un modo pragmático. Ni los gitanos ni otros grupos y minorías se convierten al pentecostalismo para algo, sino, más bien, en su trayectoria religiosa se encuentra que la religión pentecostal sirve para “hacer cosas”. En el caso de los gitanos españoles, este poder “hacer cosas” (que religiosamente se traduce en producto de una voluntad divina, por lo que invisibiliza la agencia humana enraizándola en una voluntad superior) es uno de los factores que ha dado una gran legitimidad social al evangelismo pentecostal, y una de las razones por las que “los cultos gitanos” son una “cosa buena” para muchos miembros de la minoría. El crecimiento de la legitimidad social de la nueva religión en última instancia no es un factor que explique la expansión del pentecostalismo, pero sí que da cuenta del proceso de apertura de posibilidad para que más miembros de la Comunidad puedan acercarse a ella. Y desde luego en el caso de los gitanos españoles los usos de la religión pentecostal en contextos grupales concretos son una de las clave para entender el tremendo éxito
Translation - English In this paper, I propose that one of the most prolific reasons for approaching the Evangelical Pentecostal religion lies under the metaphor of “resource”. This sociological interpretation is not far, but rather fully consistent, in the spiritual aim of every person who has participated in the in the creation of the Evangelical religion. We remind ourselves that evangelism was born during the 19th century, in an attempt to bring the poor closer to the Christian religion and is a product of a clear effort to make religion play a prominent role in their lives. Even so, with the evolution of Evangelism, Pentecostalism's birth and the ownership of Evangelism by different social groups, the original intent of Evangelical reformists was seen through the ownership and interest of social groups which expressed the formation of the particular Evangelical “habitus.” This “habitus” incorporated a concrete context for those who participated in it. The idea of resource makes sense in the identifying framework of a Pentecostal Evangelist as being a “turning point religion”. Communities and individuals are therefore allowed the accomplishment of being in the middle of a religious transition (being born-again). For these people it is especially relevant in the context of accelerated social and cultural change or drastic changes in their surroundings (movement from a rural to an urban environment and/or migration). I am not presenting a sociological view of conversion, which conceives religion in a pragmatic manner. Neither the Gypsies nor any other groups and minorities convert to Pentecostalism to gain something, rather, they do it on their religious path as they find that the Pentecostal religion serves to “make something happen”. In the case of Spanish gypsies, this power “to make something happen” (which religiously is translated as a product of divine will, thereby belittling human agency by taking root in a higher will), is one of the factors that has given great social legitimacy to Pentecostal Evangelism, and one of the reasons why “educated gypsies” are a “good thing” for many members of the minority. The growth in social legitimacy of the new religion ultimately is not a factor that explains the expansion of Pentecostalism, but is one that triggers the process of possibly enticing more members of the community to grow closer to the religion. Certainly in the case of Spanish gypsies, the uses of the Pentecostal religion in a concrete group context is a key to understanding its tremendous success.
