You are being asked to participate in this study because you are post-menopausal and have low bone mineral density. In addition, you must not have taken any drugs that have an effect on bone metabolism within the last 6 weeks. If you have questions about whether or not you have taken these kinds of drugs, you should ask your study doctor. If you have had bisphosphonates in the past, you have gone the minimum time without taking them to participate in the study (your doctor will ask you detailed questions about your past use of these drugs to determine your eligibility). Additionally, you do not have any conditions that might affect bone metabolism such as rheumatoid arthritis, Paget’s disease, or other diseases of this type.
If you agree to be in this study, you will be one of about 7200 people who will participate in this study at about 170 clinics in the United States, Europe, Canada, South America, Central America, Mexico, and Australia.
If it is determined that you are eligible to be in this trial, you will be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to receive one of two treatment options. You will receive either:
1. 60 mg AMG 162 subcutaneous (under the skin) injection one time every 6 months, or;
2. a placebo (non-active substance such as a salt solution) subcutaneous (under the skin) injection one time every 6 months
AMG 162 or placebo is given as one subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. You will also be provided with calcium and vitamin D supplements which you will take every day.
You will be randomized by chance to receive study drug or placebo. Your doctor will not be able to choose which treatment you will receive.
You will have a fifty:fifty chance of receiving study drug (AMG 162).

Você está sendo convidada a participar deste estudo porque está na pós-menopausa e tem baixa densidade mineral óssea. Caso aceite participar desse estudo, você fará parte de um grupo de aproximadamente 7.200 pessoas que participarão desse estudo em aproximadamente 170 clínicas nos Estados Unidos, Europa, Canadá, América do Sul, América Central, México e Austrália.
Caso seja decidido que você está qualificada para participar desse ensaio clínico, você será selecionada aleatoriamente (semelhante a um jogo de cara ou coroa) para receber uma de duas opções de tratamento. Você receberá uma destas duas opções:
1. uma injeção subcutânea (sob a pele) de 60 mg de AMG 162 uma vez a cada seis meses, ou;
2. uma injeção subcutânea (sob a pele) de placebo (uma substância não ativa, como, por exemplo, uma solução salina) uma vez a cada seis meses.

1. Informamos a Vossa Senhoria que a Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa – CONEP aprovou a renovação do registro do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa em Seres Humanos Hospital Federal/RJ, por 03 anos, a partir desta data.
2. Reiteramos, a necessidade de cumprimento do estabelecido na alínea c, item I.1.1 da Resolução do Conselho Nacional de Saúde – CNS 370/07, quanto ao encaminhamento à CONEP de relatórios semestrais, disponível na página: www.conselho.saude.gov.br, onde podem ser também encontrados outros documentos de interesse.

1. We write to advise you that the National Commission for Ethics in Research - CONEP has approved the renewal of the registration of the Committee for Ethics in Research concerning Human Subjects, Hospital Federal/RJ, for three years from today`s date.
2. We would like to reinforce the need to comply with the terms set forth in paragraph c of article I.1.1 of Resolution CNS 370/07 of the National Health Council, regarding forwarding reports to CONEP every six months, which can be accessed at: www.conselho.saude.gov.br, where you can also find other documents which may be of interest.
