Source text - English Ludwig II or Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm, (25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886) was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death. He is sometimes called the Swan King (English) and der Märchenkönig, the Fairy Tale King (German).
He succeeded to the throne aged only 18. Two years later Bavaria was effectively subjugated by Prussia, and subsequently absorbed into the German Empire. Ludwig remained King of Bavaria, but largely ignored such state affairs as remained to Bavaria in favor of extravagant artistic and architectural projects. He commissioned the construction of two lavish palaces and the fantastic Neuschwanstein Castle, and was a devoted patron of the composer Richard Wagner. | Translation - Italian Ludovico II, ovvero Ludovico Otto Federico Guglielmo, (25 agosto 1845 - 13 giugno 1886) fu re della Baviera dal 1864 fino alla sua mort4e.
