After graduating in 1997 from Cardiff University with an LLB in in Law and German, I worked for 2 years and 3 months at SAP near Heidelberg, Germany, as a technical translator (specialising in software, and related documentation). I then spent a year travelling, following which I moved to London, and began working in immigration law. In 2005, I qualified as a solicitor, and in the same year I gained the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation (German to English). I practised first in immigration law and then (for the past 8 years) in the public sector (Judicial Review, social care law, local government law, etc). I have recently given up practising in order to concentrate on my freelance translation business. Naturally, I specialise in legal, but am comfortable with most types of text, having science A levels, a technical background from SAP and an interest in the Arts and current affairs. |
