Anglo-Brazilian translator with native
fluency in Brazilian Portuguese and US/UK English.
Started my career as a freelance
translator in 1987 when my father, Thomas G. S. Sumner, who was CEO of Arthur
Andersen & Co. Brazil, asked me to translate the company’s Manual on
Accounting and Auditing Procedures into Portuguese for internal use. The next
job he assigned to me was to translate a documentary and company profile of
Tupy S.A. Foundry in 1988.
Meanwhile, I also worked as a
translator/interpreter for Companhia Litográfica Ypiranga (1987) and
Escolas Profissionais Salesianas (1988) during the assembly of Solna Web
Offset Presses.
Created Sumner
Translations in 2001 to provide on-demand translations for major clients
such as McKinsey & Company, Inc. do Brasil Consultoria Ltda.; C&A Modas
Ltda.; Abiclor/Clorosur (Brazilian / Latin-American Chlor–Alkali and
Derivatives Industry Associations); Enseada Indústria Naval S.A. (shipbuilding
& offshore projects, logistics and industrial solutions); and Vale S.A.
mining giant, among others.
