Source text - English Mas agora aquela menina tinha para ele um pensamento, agitava no ar um pano, como uma bandeira; decerto era bonita — o sol lhe tirava fulgurações de fogo do cabelo, e a silhueta esguia se recortava claramente no fundo verde-e-areia. Seu coração atirou-se para a menina num grande impulso agradecido; debruçou-se à janela, agitou os braços, gritou: “Amigo!, amigo!”— embora soubesse que o vento, a distância, o ruído do motor não deixariam ouvir-se nada. Ficou incerto se ela lhe vira os gestos e quis lhe corresponder de modo mais tangível. Gostaria de lhe atirar uma flor, uma oferenda. Mas que podia haver dentro de um dirigível da Marinha que servisse para ser oferecido a uma pequena? O objeto mais delicado que encontrou foi uma grande caneca de louça branca, pesada como uma bala de canhão, na qual em breve lhe iriam servir o café. Translation - Portuguese But now the thought of that girl had grown on him, waving that tablecloth in the air like a flag. The gleam of the sun seemed to light sparks of fire off of her hair; her slender silhouette was clearly defined against the contrasting backdrop of the green trees and of the sand. His heart impulsively propelled itself towards the girl feeling thankful to her; he leaned on the window and waved his arms around yelling: “Friend! Friend!” - even knowing that with the wind, the distance and over the sounds of the motor nothing would be heard. He felt unsure about whether the girl saw his movements and decided to reciprocate her gesture in a more obvious manner. He wanted to throw her a flower, a gift of some sort but what could he have inside of a marine aircraft that would serve as a proper gift for a young girl? The most delicate object he could find was a white porcelain mug that was as heavy as a cannonball, the same one that would be used to serve coffee in. It was this mug that the navigator chose to throw, no not throw: he let it fall to the ground careful to keep it at a distance from the illuminated figure down below. He let it glide through the air with a most delicate gesture, looking to ease the force of gravity with the means for the object to not come whizzing down like a bullet but rather softly like a precious gift of nature.

Source text - English As part of National Consumer Protection Week, several organizations have partnered to produce a series of animated digital shorts aimed at combating fraud in fast-growing immigrant of our community. The theme of the videos is “Be Wise about Senior Fraud,” and they will air on Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) beginning in October.
This initiative was made possible through a grant provided by Greater Twin Cities United Way. Additional partnering organizations include: ECHO Minnesota, AARP Minnesota, Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota (BBB), Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging, Minnesota Board on Aging, Minnesota Department of Commerce and tpt.
The purpose of these videos is to inform senior citizens and their loved
ones about the risks and prevalence of fraud against seniors, as well tactics scammers use, and arm them with tips for avoiding these scams. The videos will also encourage people to report such scams to the authorities.
“Financial exploitation of older adults is an increasing problem that impacts the ability for these adults to remain independent. We’re proud to partner with ECHO Minnesota – an expert in education and outreach, along with a broader coalition of partners – to raise awareness about fraud prevention. By providing valuable resources to emerging populations statewide leads to stronger communities,” said United Way Senior Vice President of Community

Minority segments within our communities are at increased risk of falling
victim to scams due to language, literacy and cultural barriers. In an effort to reach populations with limited English proficiency, the videos are narrated by multilingual ambassadors. Starting in October, all videos will air on tpt’s Minnesota Channel, as part of a half-hour program titled Echo: Be Wise about Senior Fraud. They will be re-broadcast several times. In addition, the partners behind this initiative will work with community leaders statewide to spread this message. The videos will also be posted on their respective websites.
The mission of Better Business Bureau is to be the leader in building marketplace trust by promoting, through self-regulation, the highest standards of business ethics and conduct, and to instill confidence in responsible businesses through programs of education and action that inform, assist and protect the general public.

A meta desses vídeos é de informar as pessoas da 3° idade e seus parentes sobre os riscos e a preponderância da fraude contra à eles, assim como os informar sobre as táticas que os golpistas usam, e também para providenciar conselhos sobre como evitar esses golpes. Os vídeos também irão incentivar que os tais golpes fraudulentos sejam denunciados para as autoridades.
“O aproveitamento financeiro ganhado sobre as pessoas de 3° idade é um novo problema que impacta a independência deles. Temos orgulho de ter uma parceria com ECHO Minnesota – especialistas em educação e desenvolvimento comunitário, junto á suas varias alianças – que ajudam a aumentar o conhecimento sobre como prevenir a fraude. Ao disponibilizar recursos que são essenciais para populações crescentes dentro do estado, o fortalecimento de comunidades se torna possível,” disse Meghan Barp, vice presidente de impactos comunitários para United Way.
As populações de minorias étnicas dentro de nossas comunidades estão expostas a um risco maior de serem vitimas a fraudes por razões como, diferenças em idioma, níveis de alfabetização e obstáculos culturais. Em uma tentativa para alcançar as populações não fluentes em inglês, a serie de vídeos será narrada por representativos multilíngües. No começo de Outubro, todos os vídeos serão estreados na estação tpt de Minnesota, como parte de um programa de meia-hora chamado: “ECHO: Informe-se sobre a fraude contra pessoas da 3° idade.” As curtas animadas serão transmitidas várias vezes. Além disso, os parceiros que criaram esta iniciativa também vão a colaborar com líderes comunitários dentro do estado para divulgar esta mensagem. As curtas serão publicadas em seus respectivos websites.

I am a bilingual Brazilian-Portuguese native who has invaluable knowledge about Brazilian culture and its' language as well as American culture and its' language. I have studied Portuguese formally growing up in Brazil in elementary school as well as during my undergraduate years at the University of Minnesota. I have also studied the Spanish language, culture and literature formally in school for over 8 years. In 2013, I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a full semester, taking courses solely in Spanish. Overall I have a very solid understanding of all three languages and their cultures having experienced them all first hand.
I have a year's worth of experience working with translation and learning about translation theory in a classroom setting. I have primarily worked on literary translations but have also worked on other types of texts such as news articles, medical texts and technical manuals. I'm eager to get to work!
