English to Russian: HYBRID PERSONALIZED RECOMMENDATION APPROACH FOR IMPROVING MOBILE E-COMMERCE General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Petroleum Eng/Sci
Source text - English Abstract: In recent years, the massive influx of information onto internet has facilitated user, not only retrieving information, but also discovering facts. However, web users usually suffer from the information overload problem due to the fact of significantly increasing and rapidly expanding growth in amount of information on the mobile web. Web personalization and recommendation is one of the promising technique to tackle this problem by adapting the content and structure of mobile websites to the requirements of the users by taking benefit of the facts acquired from the analysis of the users’ access behaviors web is another important area which is consists of much more complex structures and huge collection of ambiguous data. The mobile web portion of the web is also quite different from the traditional web. The information contained in the mobile web is often more concise, more location- specific, and time-critical. The multiplicity of mobile web application among assortment of recommendation aim and technique involve that to gather more and more global recommendation requirements, it reasonably significant to implement hybrid recommendations for M- commerce. In this research, we proposed hybrid recommendation systems in m-commerce base on innovative K-means Clustering (IKMC) and Distributed Association Rules together to improve recommendation performance. Keywords: hybrid personalized, distributed association rules, ikmc, m- commerce I INTRODUCTION: In the last decade, due to improvement of mobile terminal capability and increase of bandwidth, wireless and mobile networks are experiencing exponential growth. A new e-commerce mode named “mobile commerce” emerged and was considered as significant supplement and potential substitute of traditional e-commerce. Even though mobile commerce relies on the same core information technologies as e-commerce, there are extra diverse in underlying infrastructure components. This is because typical mobile commerce clients such as mobile phones or personal digital assistants (PDAs) are certainly limited in terms of computational power, input/output facilities and memory. A well designed going to places of interest information system should provide mobile service for recommendation using mobile terminals. Moreover, information and service should be personalized for each visitor to make good use of the limited resources and to improve customer satisfaction. Any Information system should meet the following requirements: 1) Provide personalized service; 2) serve customers at anytime and at anywhere; 3) Improve quality of service continuously. For example, the supermarket may equip Mobile phone with writable tag could download selective information from service providers under various circumstances. On the other hand, personalized recommendation is one of the key techniques to support personalized service, which can recommend certain products to specific user. Amazon, CDNow, eBay, MovieLens, flipcard homeshop18, starCJ and MovieFinder are representative recommender systems.
English to Russian: Michal Oklot Poetic Ontology of Commentary: Mandel`shtam’s Conversation with Rozanov in “Conversation about Dante” General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - English Commentary and its Image
In Section Two of “Conversation about Dante,” when experimenting with the question of the nature of poetic erudition, Mandel`shtam assembled a peculiar image in the following tropologically mixed sentences:
Averrois, che il gran comnto feo (Inf. IV, 144).
This image seems to be particularly suited for our task; it also encourages questions that would lead to the edge of the text and beyond—the question concerning Rozanov’s ontology of commentary. The Mandel`shtamian strategy of “gluing” and “assembling,” which hopefully will take us one step further toward understanding the logic of Rozanov’s ontological images, and the trajectory of Mandel`shtam’s own poetic associations in these three sentences, seem to be an organic approach to commenting.
Dante’s catalogue of philosophers, a part of this image, is ostensibly an answer to the question of the nature of Dantean erudition, or more generally, the question of quotation and commentary. Such a pairing of a question and the image that responds to it is not an isolated event in Mandel`shtam’s text, which could be read and analyzed precisely as a peculiar assemblage of images of differing formal complexity and conceptual density. Each image is singular and unique standing by itself, and at the same time, part of a dynamic poetic structure. In a modernist manner, the entire section is framed cosmogonically: it begins with a descent into poetic matter, into mythopoeic origin and ends with the poetic program which evokes a figure of “living medicine,” the task of which is to “penetrate the multitudinous states of poetic matter.” The philological equivalent of the immanent force, which governs this cosmogonico-poetic process, would be precisely tradition of commentary.
Much has been written about the poetics of Mandel`shtam’s commentary, most notably by Nancy Pollack, who precisely reads Mandel`shtam as “the reader” in her book Mandel`shtam the Reader. Here, however, we should limit ourselves to toying with the idea that, in this specific passage, Mandel`shtam was responding to Rozanov. The commentators of the newest edition of the collected works of Mandel`shtam, when discussing the Aristotelian-Averroesian image with which we began, suggest its affinity (in a simple causal-associative model and with no further explanation, alas) with the one used by precisely Rozanov to explain his Aristotelian entelechy in The Apocalypse of Our Time (1917-1919). Let us try to finish the job, and deal more extensively with this undeniably fruitful trope, focusing on four elements that compose the image introduced at the beginning: the Arab ornament; Averroes; Aristotle; and the moth. Through these four figures, Mandel`shtam introduces three conceptual dimensions of the commentary: historiozophical, ontological, and the epsistemological; the last mentioned also opens the question of the poetic image.
What is Rozanovian Commentary?
In one of the interviews, Giorgio Agamben complained that
[n]otes, quotations marks, bibliographical references, ‘see also-s’ and the like refer to a subject of knowledge ensconced like a ventriloquist behind the speaking subject […] and for this reason today's academic prose is so often disappointing,’ with its separation of an ‘authentic experience of language’ from ‘knowledge.’”
It does not mean that Agamben dismisses the commentary, on the contrary one might have an impression that he locates his own work in a similar space in his post-Heideggerian project of saving the experience of language and its relation to being itself. “Rather than the names of masters,” Agamben says, “I would like to indicate two formal models that have constantly inspired me: the medieval commentary and the brief and erudite notes of the great philologists of the nineteenth century.” Consequently a “gloss,” as De la Durantaye argues in his monograph study on Agamben, is a fundamental element in the organization of Agamben’swork. At the end of Infancy and History Agamben cites as a sign of the crisis our culture is traversing ‘the loss of the commentary and the gloss as creative forms’ […] This comment may sound surprisingly given that we are little inclined today to think of the commentary and gloss as having once been creative forms. Concerned as they are with terminological clarification, they seem to be quintessentially noncreative.
And the later fate of Rozanov’s’ inserts follows precisely this direction; in Mandel’shtam’s view, he is, however, interested not so much in creative input of the commentary, as in the commentary itself understood as a creative movement. In the later conceptual works, Rozanov relegated or rather elevated his detours—commentaries and lyrical “вставки”—to the footnotes, and “see also-s,” which became dynamic centers of his texts. Thus what Mandel’shtam was trying to do in his commentary on Dante’s eclectic poem-commentary, at the intersection of Platonic, Stoic, Peripatetic, Neoplatonic and Scholastic traditions, is precisely to restore the creative power to the gloss.
Commentary as Thinking in Images
As Mandel`shtam writes in Section Four, when introducing the basic poetic, semantic, and structural unit of Divine Comedy and his own commentary, “The future of Dante criticism belongs to the natural sciences when they will have achieved a sufficient degree of refinement and developed their capacity for thinking in images” (obraznoe myshlenie) [emphasis added—M.O]. Thinking in images, which captures the dynamic relationship of poetry, philosophy, and physiology, first of all, brings to mind Bergson’s concept of the image, which is relevant for Rozanov also. As a reminder, Bergson, when discussing art’s impossibility of capturing the “absolute,” by which he meant pure and exhaustive presentation of the self from within a given object, provided directions for the ideal form of the artistic image, which would not so much be representation, as presentation.
The image in this understanding of Bergson “concerns all those materials that are presented to our nervous system via our senses. In being present to us these things literally touch us.” Thus, in the art of images, as we have in a Deleuzian argument, the world is created, not represented; images do not send us back to the world for corroboration, but they form a part of our world. So the image, to quote Bergson, “keeps us in the concrete,” and its associative series of sensations captured in words, narratives, concepts, and poetic images, can present the intimate in Rozanov, meaning our intuition of Rozanov; Mandel`shtam gets close to this concrete aesthetics.
But Mandel’shtam’s “theory” of image also has the cerebral aspect. To see it more clearly, we may relate his “thinking in images” to the “thought-image” (Denkbild), the concept of the image that Theodor Adorno once attributed to the artistic and essayistic prose of Mandel`shtam’s modernist contemporaries, Walter Benjamin, and, indirectly, Ernst Bloch. (Above all, it is with Bloch, with his specific ontology and theology of hope, in which we contextualize Rozanov’s apocalyptic and ontological concept of the “increase of being” (prirost bytiia) in post-WWI European messianic thought. As we will see, Mandel`shtam’s imagery and its logic are not very far from this perspective.) The conceptual (cerebral) and aesthetic reciprocity of the Denkbild shows the difficulty that Adorno diagnoses in his Aesthetic Theory, around the fact “that art stands in need of philosophy, and interprets it in order to say that which it cannot say, whereas art is only able to say what it says without saying it.”
In Mandel`shtam’s thinking in images, however, the conceptual is always secondary—what is clearly in the foreground is the transmutability and convertibility of poetic material, but the tension is similar to that present in the Denkbild. “Dante’s thinking in images,” Mandel`shtam writes in this section of “Conversation,” “as in the case of all genuine poetry, exists with the aid of a peculiarity of poetic material which I propose to call its convertibility and transmutability.” Nevertheless, the sequence of thinking in images in Section Two involves both philosophy and poetry. And it is the veiled presence of Rozanov that also reminds us that the second answer to the question of erudition gestures at philosophy. Poetry, especially as presented in Section Two of “Conversation about Dante,” goes hand in hand with philosophy; they converge in a dynamic unit, which is subjected to associative, as well as conceptual conversions, such as the images under consideration here. So the formulation of this dynamic relationship could be summarized by D. H. Lawrence’s proscribed aesthetic task of the novelist: reconciliation of metaphysics, theory of being, and the living sense of being. The metaphysics, however, “must always subserve the artistic purpose beyond the artist’s conscious aim”; and if in the foreground, it is always an effort to cover the sense of failure. Not always the apocalyptic critic of the novel, Mandel`shtam was aware of the subtlety of this relationship. Rozanov, the apocalyptic novelist (as seen by Shklovsky) also avoided ostensive metaphysics, withdrawing from the philosophical discourse; unlike Mandel`shtam, however, Rozanov’s poetic discourse remained in the zone of the “not-yet,” or ante—under the shade of propylaea of commentary.
To go back to our image, which in almost every paragraph tends to send us away from itself into ornamental, interpretative detours, Aristotle and Averroes, besides composing an ornamental frame, like every element of “Conversation about Dante,” are open to new associations. These two names produce some surplus of sense, thereby keeping the text, to translate it into discreet metaphysics, in movement between “theory of being” and the “living sense of being.”
As Mikhail L. Gasparov noted, Mandel`shtam’s new poetic credo in the 1930s was: “I am sense-oriented” (Ia smyslovik). As Tiutchev was important for Mandel`shtam’s first poetics and Paul Verlaine for his second, they are joined in the 1930s by Arthur Rimbaud, a great “mover of sense” (velikii kolybatel’ smysla). The major “representational” unit which has the capacity to grasp the dialectics of sense and sensibility in an uninterrupted movement, would precisely be a series of thinking in images. The poetics and syntax of the sentence which introduces Mandel`shtam’s quotation from Dante forms an image of the “orgy of quotations”; it is a compound composed of a trope characteristic of the epic, namely a simile, “Aristotle, like a moth,” and a genitive metaphor, “edged by the Arab edge of Averroes,” which Hugo Friedrich identifies as particularly characteristic of modernist poetics. (Mandel`shtam identifies the same compound in Dante in Section Three.) What is symptomatic of the genitive metaphor is that “the most worn and most multivalent of rational words, the genitive proposition and article, is most permissive of semantic disharmony and the magical union of mutually alien things.” This image is tropologically and philologically displaced, thus, in a way, dialectical, in the sense that the past, present, and future flash as a constellation within it, unlike that found in a hermeneutical image, in which they mutually illuminate each other as a continuum. Rather than serve as an illustration or representation of a past event, the dialectical thought-image is a medium that brings the past, present, and future into a new relationship that is always oriented towards the future. As Mandel`shtam writes in Section Five, Dante’s cantos “demand a commentary in Futurum” (trebuiut kommentariia v Futurum).
Commentary as Tangenial Pattern of Historiosophy
Comparative modality, a measure of existence in Mandel`shtam’s poetic ontology, also established the relationship between the two texts the charmingly imitative Hegelian “The Place of Christianity in History” (1901; 1904) and “Conversation” on a more literal level, which clearly shows Rozanovian origin of Mandel`shtam’s image; we are interested here not so much about the logic of the historizophical argument as about the pattern of poetic associations. And indeed, Rozanov’s essay, concerning the Christian synthesis of the Hellenic and Semitic sensibilities, includes a reference to Averroes as an example of the archetypical commentator, who in turn is brought into his text, as in the case of Mandel`shtam, through the Divine Comedy. “Averroes, whom, with such esteem, Dante remembers,” as Rozanov writes, who also famously referred to these verses of the Divine Comedy, as those that,
bore the nickname of “the great commentator” in the Middle Ages. Aristotle was explaining nature, and Averroes was explaining Aristotle, the Arabs used to say about him with pride. And in general, what the Arabian scientists were so proud of, and what they were admired for by other nations – one thing is clear: it is their lack of any initiative, and their lack of a creative beginning in everything.”
It is hard to imagine a better foundation for the argument of the Rozanov’s presence in Mandel`shtam than the striking similarity (and complementarity) of this passage and Mandel`shtam’s image. If we move forward to The Apocalypse of Our Time, what Rozanov may have wanted to express in the passage quoted above is that the Semitic impulse in Christian civilization created the chain of ossified and heavy commentaries, which can produce nothing but the moans of the commentator crushed under their weight. Thus, «стоны» of the “little Jew from Shklov” from главка «Надавило шкафом» (that follows главка La Divina Comedia) gestured at the apocalyptic resurrection of the originary Hellenic-Christian force, which would reunite us with nature and her Creator, and the “crushed by the bookcase” originary Semitic apocalyptic sensitivity—its immediate grasp of the breath of God, of which traces could be found in the Old Testament. As he will write in another place, “The Apocalypse is a cosmic trial of Christianity.”
Thus by exposing the Arab ornament of Averroes, in an poetic way Mandel`shtam responded to Rozanov, defending the culture of commentary as a mean in itself paradoxically in the spirit of Rozanov himslef, which reverberated in стоны of the “little Jew from Shklov.” These moans, a child-like play with words, images, and commentaries, are always in search of the center—always approaching it, but never getting close; such poetry follows the form of the commentary as an ornament, which strives to establish a pattern in the scattered pages of the manuscript.
In “The Place of Christianity,” Rozanov also goes back to his early fascination with Aristotle—elusive prime mover (who moved a sphere of being into shimmering potentialities) who is also one of the main characters in Mandel`shtam’s text. In “The Place of Christianity,” Aristotle makes an appearance as a philosopher, the first (and the last) among Hellenic philosophers to have contrived the idea of a Christian-like divinity in his concept of the prime mover and Creator of the world, but who was then buried under Arabian—that is, later, Semitic—commentaries. (NB: Sensitive to all sorts of biographical trivia and anecdotes, Rozanov had to be aware of one of the versions of the death of Averroes, according to which the famous commentator died, crushed by his books, many of them commentaries, falling from a shelf of his own library; this adds yet another ironic nuance to Mandel`shtam’s defense and ontology of commentary.)
In Fragment Twenty-Six, we read that, “The prime mover (pervodvigatel`) himself is no longer the first principle, being merely a radio station, a communicator, a transmitter […] And just as a single vitalistic flow (vitalisticheskii potok) creates organs for itself: hearing, the eye, the heart, blood, and, in the Dantean understanding of the human body, it literally flows in them and through them; since organs appear to be subordinated streams (iavliaiutsia sopodchinennymi patokami) in one stream (potok), and the vitalistic flow can materialize (ossushchestvit’sia); concretizing spheres appear to be breeding grounds of qualities that are embedded in matter.” In Mandel`shtam’s image, Aristotle, the prime mover, remains an illusive kernel, an idea of origin, which is hidden in the infinite layers of commentaries, but these commentaries allow Dante and his scholastics’ mental universe (“the huge exploding power of the Book of Genesis, the idea of spontaneous genesis, sieged for all the sides a little island of Sorbonne”) to connect “two incompatible things”: “the Biblical genetics” and Aristotle’s physics. And this can happen through an experiment, which, like music, is a proper space for such a diachronic operation.
Commentary as Color
So why is the Arab ornament introduced through the proper name of Averroes? First, because Averroes is a famous commentator; second, because his Arabic origin and philosophical profession reinforce both the poetic —in this case, ornamental—and the ontological status of the commentary, the metapoetic discussion, which is one of the major implicit themes interwoven into the fabric of “Conversation.” Another layer of Mandel`shtam’s commentary leads our discussion back to the metaphor which transformed Aristotle into a moth, or a butterfly; this metaphor, in turn, has lead us through the major theme of this essay, the Rozanovian detour-commentary; a detour understood as an exegetical invention, a specific case of commentary, as Georges Didi-Huberman would put it, “the ever renewed and diversifiable production of a thousand and one networks of sacred meaning.” To stay in Mandel`shtam’s poetic cosmos and terminology, the poetic equivalent of the sacred meanings of incarnation is the philological kernel, the Hellenic word, which remains unattainable, always concealed within multiple layers of commentary.
Going back to the thought-image before us at its center, there is Aristotle, hidden and out of balance by the thick margins of many commentaries—“makhrovaia babochka”: a moth, a fuzzy butterfly, a piece of haberdashery, a double-winged butterfly or just a common and typical butterfly—a butterfly all too butterfly-ish. Taking advantage of the slightly semantic ambiguity of this phrase, we can allow ourselves some degree of arbitrariness and fluidity in order to assemble the associations that govern the present commentary on “Conversation.” Let us decide on a moth, then, and a very particular moth in its peculiar and impressive coloration (and here we follow more poetic approach of Nabokov, who built his interpretation of Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” on the entomological assumption that Gregor Samsa transformed himself into a beetle). Ours is a moth which is well-known from any popular encyclopedia of Lepidoptera, the Madagas sunset moth (Chrysiridia rhipheus). This sunset-lit moth fits the logic of the present commentary because of the peculiar—so to speak—ontological status of its colors: they do not have their own ontology, and are effects of optical interference of light caused by the refractions of its transparent wings.
To raise Mandel`shtam’s “intertextual” game to a higher power by bringing yet another context, while at the same time staying within the philosophical sensibility of High Modernism, we may refer to Joyce’s Ulysses, in particular, the famous beginning of the “Proteus” chapter, the chapter built on the same passage from the fourth Canto of Inferno, as is also the case with Mandel`shtam’s image:
Ineluctable modality of the visible: at least that if no more, thought through my eyes. Signatures of all things I am here to read, sea spawn and sea rack, the nearing tide, that rusty boot. Snot green, blue silver, rust: coloured signs. Limits of the diaphane. But he adds: in bodies. Then he was aware of them bodies before of them coloured. How? By knocking his sconce against them, sure. Go easy. Bald he was and a millionaire, maestro di color che sanno. Limit of the diaphane in. Why in? Diaphane, adiaphane. If you can put your five fingers through it is a gate, if not a door. Shut your eyes and see.
In this famous passage, Joyce brings out the issue of perceptible color as it is relates to ontology, which he grounds in two works by Aristotle: De anima and De sensu et sensibili. In Aristotle, color is a limit of translucence (diaphane), and within the body, it is determinately bound. Joyce, as Jean-Michel Rabaté argues, builds this Dantean reference on a pun, which misleads those who are unfamiliar with Italian to read it as, “the relative color in the sentence ‘the master of those who (color) know,’ as a noun meaning ‘color,’” and which, additionally “favored by a context saturated with actual colors (‘snotgreen, bluesilver, rust’) and with the problematic of ‘coloured signs.’” So, continues Rabaté, Stephen Dedalus’ lesson is that “the knowledge we can derive from and about colors is never far from illusion. The truth of this knowledge is conveyed through colored lures that haunt the eye even after they have been demystified,” which is strengthened by the ambiguity of the pun. We learn another lesson in perception and ontology from Stephen’s Aristotle, namely, that the limit of diaphane would be the limit of what is perceptible to sight, and that the objects are not visible in and of themselves, but rather, by virtue of color.
Similarly, we see this in the Mandel`shtam of “Conversation” and “Journey to Armenia,” for whom color, devoid of an ontological status of its own, is an approximation of the never-attained object. Color is nothing other than “a sense of the start [of the race], tinged by distance and contained as dimension” (kak chuvstvo starta, okrashennoe distantsiei i zakliuchennoe v obem), as Mandel`shtam writes in “Journey to Armenia.” Thus, Averroes, the commentator, is a figure for a colorful Arab ornament—a tangential approximation of Aristotle, a figure of the kernel understood as the originary word, which is embodied in the material. (NB: in Section Four, the colored knots of ornament on Geryon skin are also compared, or, transformed, into solid figures, the “sacks with money,” as if alluding to Dante’s Aristotle, who in typical medieval, anecdotal characteristic was bald and rich). Mandel`shtam’s Dantean Aristotle-butterfly’s lesson about color, as developed later in Section Four through the interplay of light and color (of Averroes’s commentary), refers to the quality of color in general, as perceived in neo-Kantian European Modernism. Benjamin, another contemporary figure to Mandel`shtam, in his early dialogue The Rainbow (1914-1916), while rejecting Goethe’s phenomenology of color, based on polarity, developed his understanding of color in connection with his thoughts on the nature of experience, which coincide with those that unfold from “Conversation.” Thus, for Benjamin, colors are never created, and can only be received. They are neither spatial nor temporal. What is the experience of color, then? Benjamin would say that it is infinitude, and that the measure of color is intensity. So color is the kind of infinitude which inhabits finitude. In a way, then, the proper modality of color’s being, its nontemporality and nonspaciality, is the same as that of commentary, which is also a kind of infinitude within finitude. For Mandel’shtam, further transformations of this transitory modality into intermediary forms of art would be music or calligraphy—both important themes in the “Conversation.”
So the figure of Averroes framing Aristotle, a colorful moth—the philological and philosophical kernel of this commentary—gestures at the status of commentary itself, which is, for Mandel`shtam, just an assemblage of refractions or approximations of the unattainable philological kernel (therefore beyond a commentator’s grasp). Dante’s catalogue of philosophers, then, was particularly interesting for Mandel`shtam, for it starts with the unnamed Aristotle, a kernel, Stephen Dedalus’ color (“When I raised my eyes a little higher I saw the master of them that know sitting amid a philosophic family”), and ends with the commentator Averroes, a framing arabesque; the catalogue is framed, then, by the impossible, an unattainable philological kernel and a commentary; what is also framed is a membrane, a receptacle for another assemblage of refractions. So the image is even more dynamic, its center—Aristotle, who is compared to a night- or a day- (or perhaps, it could be argued, to a twilight-) butterfly—provides Dante with an ornament with which he borders both the center and the margin—the Arab ornament of Averroes; they are both situated on a membrane of the same moth’s wing. Schematically, then, the image consists of three concentric frames: that of Averroes’s commentary, that of Dante’s catalogue, and that of Mandel`shtam’s essay.
How would this image look on a page of illuminated manuscript, the figure we evoked Rozanov’s idea of commentary? A small, rectangle of commented-upon text, almost disappearing within a thick frame of the ornament of commentary. Outside of this frame one can find commentaries of copyists, another frame, and so on. But then the outside border comes from an elusive—that is, unattainable—center, the Arab ornament, and this is why Mandel`shtam had to resort to modern physics and topology in “Conversation About Dante.” “The trench mark of the fingernail,” a physiological-philological image, is located on the margin, in the propylaea, emerging from the interplay of light and shadow. Thus, we may go back to Rozanov’s Levitan, and his visual equivalent of the literary propylaea, the entrance in itself. In Levitan’s landscapes, Rozanov writes, there are neither colors nor people. Thus, for instance in “Spring Thaw,” there is neither a sinking cartwheel nor muzhik, as there would be in Ilya Repin. In Levitan, Rozanov writes, if there are human figures, they vanish at the horizon line. It is more comfortable without people and things; it is lighter, “the air is diaphanous,” unlike in “mindless realism” of the type: «вали сюда все» What is important for the current argument, and what we can observe in Rozanov’s article, which seems to be miles away from the sensibility of Mandel`shtam, is the same movement between the material and immaterial; the color and the diaphaneity of light and shadow; the unattainable philological kernel and the commentary. Rozanov calls both Levitan’s art and Gershenzon’s philology the Greek propylaea, which dematerialize the object of art. So Gershenzon’s commentaries on more elusive authors, rather than the writers of acknowledged classics, are suspended between potentiality and actuality, just as Levitan suspends the painted objects between their materiality and immateriality, as if in the air, as an interplay of light and darkness. Rozanov concludes his essay by referring to Gershenzon’s correction of Tyutchev, replacing Christ (embodiment) with “Hellenic” anticipation and ontological suspension of the not-yet—the propylaea—thereby unexpectedly regressing to the Semitic search for the kernel, and excluding the possibility of the dialectical synthesis of Christianity (found in his essay “The Place of Christianity in History”).
Translation - Russian
Averrois, cheil gran comntofeo (Inf. IV, 144).
