Source text - English Ladies and gentlemen, good evening and Happy Fourth of July!
Thank you for joining us to celebrate the Independence Day of the United States of America. We’ve got a great evening planned for you!
This year’s theme is “A Nation of Nations, and we’ve brought together cuisine and music representative of the many cultures brought to the United States by millions of immigrants from around the world. America truly is a melting pot of nationalities and we are proud of the diversity that creates the fabric of our history.
Whether you are sampling food representative of our Irish, Japanese, Italian or Latin heritage, or, listening to music like jazz, blues and Dixieland, we hope you will be inspired to learn more about the many traditions we have all come to love in America.
Our diverse backgrounds, experiences, and talents enrich our perspectives as we live and learn together. We are excited to be able to share these with you, our friends, and colleagues in Japan, as we work together to pave the path for an even brighter tomorrow.
Happy 4th of July!
To kick off the festivities this evening, I want to introduce “Katsu’s band, led by Katsu, who is working for GSO in US Embassy Tokyo. They are a band formed with pro/semi-pro musicians actively performing in and around Tokyo area. They mainly play Jazz, Smooth-Jazz and instrumentally arranged R&B songs that are soothing and relaxing. I hope you can enjoy and have time to unwind.
Ladies and gentlemen, please get ready to welcome our next musical guest, world renowned pianist Makoto Ozone. Brought up in a musically rich environment, Makoto Ozone taught himself organ at a very young age. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1983 at the top of his class and gave a solo recital at the Carnegie Hall, and signed a worldwide recording contract with CBS Columbia the same year. He has released many albums including the Grammy nominated "Virtuosi" (2002), a duet album with Gary Burton. He has also been very successful in the classical field in recent years. In 2014, he performed with the New-York Philharmonic under the baton of Alain Gilbert. He is invited again to play with New-York Philharmonic on “New Year’s Eve Concert” at the end on this year. Tonight, we are so pleased that he has offered a special friendly performance for us.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Happy Fourth of July once again and welcome to the celebration of the founding of the United States of America. My name is Connor Myers, and I am this evening’s Emcee. Please note that the official ceremony will begin in 10 minutes, at 6:30 p.m.
Ladies and Gentlemen, once again, welcome. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy is pleased to receive you into her home this evening.
The theme of this year’s U.S. Embassy Independence Day celebration is “A Nation of Nations and we’ve brought together cuisine and music representative of the many cultures brought to the United States by millions of immigrants from around the world. America truly is a melting pot of nationalities and we are proud of the diversity that creates the fabric of our history.
Especially on this day, while celebrating our diversity, Americans also remember that we are all united as one nation: the United States of America.
I’d now like to direct your attention to the stage where Ambassador Caroline Kennedy will be presented the colors by the U.S. Embassy Marine Corps Color Guard.
Please welcome ‘jammin Zeeb, who will be singing the National Anthem of Japan for us tonight.
Next, jammin’ Zeeb will be singing the U.S. National Anthem.
Now, I would like to invite His Excellency, the Honorable Tadamori Oshima, Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives, to make remarks on behalf of Japan.”
Thank you very much. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now my honor to introduce this evening’s host, United States Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this concludes tonight’s official ceremony. Thank you very much and please enjoy the rest of the reception, the upcoming entertainment, and the generous offerings of our numerous sponsors.
Please stick around, because in just a few minutes ‘jammin Zeeb will return for more of their music!
Happy Independence Day!
"Versatile vocal group jammin' Zeb reinvents the sound of groups such as The Manhattan Transfer and The Pioneers. Blending jazz standards and original numbers, they deliver a vibrant and entertaining show for young and old alike."
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome them!
Our final entertainment this evening comes from The U.S. Army’s All American Brass Band. Brass Bands play the music of the streets of New Orleans and are a modern representation of America’s rich musical heritage. Made popular by groups like Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Rebirth Brass Band, along with the HBO television show Treme, Brass Bands use horns, drums and vocals to perform a wide mix of music in their own funky, up-tempo, style. Audiences of all ages will be drawn to Uncle Sam's All-American Brass Band and their highly energetic performances inspired by the fun loving city known as the Big Easy.
Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming the All American Brass Band!
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give one more big round of applause for all of our performers tonight!
Ladies and Gentlemen, this concludes our Independence Day reception. Thank you very much for joining us in celebrating our Nation of Nations! Thank you very much and Happy Fourth of July!
