I am currently working towards a PhD in law and have been taking on freelance translation work on and off for the past 10 years to help finance my studies. I grew up between Switzerland and England (hence the French and German), and have worked extensively with Spanish for the past 8 years. My doctoral research is on law in Latin America (with a focus on Argentina).
I am a qualified Solicitor and prior to starting my PhD worked at law firms in both London and Barcelona for a period of 5 years. Whilst working in Barcelona, I did a lot of legal translation from Spanish into English (contracts, letters of advice, the firm's monthly newsletter, and other legal documents). I had previously also studied law at universities in France and Germany. I therefore have a firm grasp of legal terminology in Spanish, French, and German.
As part of my freelance work, I have translated several chapters of an academic book on children's rights from German to English, many contracts from French and Spanish into English, and also some non-legal texts such as letters and news reports.
As a lawyer, researcher, and university teaching associate, I also have extensive experience of proof-reading.
In terms of editing, I specialise in editing English texts that have been written by non-native speakers. I have proofread/edited many academic papers that have gone on to be published in high ranking academic journals.
Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information or references. I'm happy to negotiate rates.
