My name is Gabriel Simões, 28 years old. I hold a bachelor degree in Geography from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and currently I am going through a certification course on translation at the DBB Translation School, Rio de Janeiro, to be completed in June/2016.
Since 2015 I have been working as a professional freelance translator in the language pair English-Portuguese. Currently, I am working for two translation companies – fields of expertise: Games; Arts and Culture; Journalism; Social Sciences. Also, I translate news and columns from international media for a brazilian website called Outras Palavras (outraspalavras.net), where you can find my translations published. In addition, I translate academic papers on Urban Planning for a researcher from IPPUR/UFRJ. Last February I have worked on the editing of the translation of the book “Shell Shocked – On the Ground Under Israel’s Gaza Assault”, which is supposed to be released by the Autonomia Literária in a few months, written by the palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer.
Although they are both in Portuguese, I would like to leave here the links to my profile on LinkedIn (br.linkedin.com/in/gabrielfsimoes) and for my personal blog on translation (http://desvendandoalinguagem.tumblr.com/).
