About me
I have a broad range of experience in translation and interpretation spanning several fields from casual to technical and from personal to professional.

Educational Background

I graduated from University of Oregon in 2012 with a BA in Latin American Studies and a minor in Spanish. This included 5 months in Valdivia, Chile, where I completed an Advanced Spanish and Chilean Culture exchange program.
While in Valdivia, I also volunteered at a local high school as an assistant English teacher through a program called English Opens Doors.
In addition to these activities, I worked as a research assistant, collecting curriculum materials and texts and conducting interviews of public school history teachers for a colleague at the University of Oregon for his doctoral thesis detailing non-violent social movements and regime change as it appears in History curriculum.
Previous to studying in Chile, I was recruited to participate in the Latino Roots Project, a two-term graduate level research project documenting the history of Latino families in Oregon, recommended by my . In addition to learning the history of indigenous peoples and the arrival of Latinos and Europeans in Oregon, we were trained in cross-cultural ethnographic interview techniques and subsequently conducted interviews of Latinos living in Oregon and contributed audio, video, photos and transcripts to the University of Oregon Knight Library Archives in June 2011.

Professional Development

After graduation, I volunteered for 9 months as an ESL teacher and on-call interpreter for Centro Latinoamericano in Eugene, Oregon as well as doing medical interpretation at an all-volunteer clinic in nearby Springfield, Oregon.
Following my volunteer work, I worked for 18 months as a paralegal at Hecht & Norman, an immigration law firm in Eugene, Oregon. While at Hecht & Norman, I worked almost exclusively with Latino families to complete their immigration paperwork.
Document translation, phone, email and written communiqué comprised the majority of my workload. When meeting with clients and their families, on-the-spot translation and interpretation was a regular and necessary occurrence as proficiency in Spanish and English varied with each generation present.
My experience as a paralegal increased my glossary immensely, from technical legal jargon to clients' affidavits in the vernacular.
In early 2014 I moved back to Chile to teach English as a Foreign Language. After 10 months working as an EFL instructor in Valparaiso, I moved to Santiago and worked for 6 months in a high end Peruvian fusion restaurant which helped to enrich my culinary lexicon immensely. While in Chile, I also worked as an English tutor and proofreader in my free time as well as taking on a few translation projects for a local wine tourism agency.
