Translation - English Great Lord of Life and wisdom! In Thy Name
Amongst different kinds of man’s ingenious accomplishments since the commencement of civilization, the invention of script and calligraphy has to be considered as one of the most important artistic inventions.
Studying the ancient scripts and rock inscriptions engraved on the historical sites indicates that although man utilized the script as a means of communicating and inspiring special senses, since that time typographers have paid studious attention to the aesthetic aspects and harmony between form and content.
This matter, i.e. taking the aesthetic form of a script along with its content, gradually attracted more attention to the extent that writing scripts which do not enjoy any eye-catching aspects, excluded from the artists and writers’ agenda.
It also should be noted that this process enjoys a higher speed and quality in a civilized country like Iran with an ancient history in the field of culture.
Therefore, Iranian’s inclination to compose fine poems that reveal heartfelt feelings would be of no prestige without artistic writing.
Thus, in various historical eras, there have emerged pioneer artists who study the script from the aesthetic viewpoint and made fundamental developments in this field.
Amongst the eminent calligraphers, ranging from Ibn-muqla to Mirza Gholamreza Esfahani, there were innovative artists who perpend aesthetic nature of Persian scripts regardless of customs. And these efforts have lead to the development of calligraphy in the ancient land of Iran.
It needs to be remembered that calligraphy over the last 500 years has flourished unbelievably. Highly-spirited and far-sighted artists have emerged in the recent years, whose innovative standpoints to script writing have given the full appearance to calligraphy to the extent that nowadays we can see several kinds of noble scripts in the field of calligraphy, which is indeed eye-catching and pleasurable.
My attitude towards calligraphy follows the same route and as a calligrapher, who has practiced in the classical calligraphy school for years and learned its mysteries from my dignified masters, Mr. Gholam Hossein Amirkhani and Mr. Mehdi Fallah, in the recent years, my focus is to widen enthusiasts horizons to the visual aspects of this art by forbearing from repetition and monotonous rambling in a closed circuit. I intend to familiarize my addressees with other aspects of Iranian calligraphy, which only focuses on visual aesthetic.
In other words, my modern calligraphies prioritize the creation of beauty, a few samples of which I have presented here in this book to those interested in these works.
In this style which has been chosen regarding the needs of the time, no special attention is given to semantic interpretation but by exploiting a short word or a verse of a poem, I have tried to picture the geometric beauty of words and letters of Persian script to enthusiasts from a new viewpoint and with a design based look.
