Hello, My name is Marjo Toner. I am Finnish-American. I was brought up in Finland. As a young adult I wanted to see the world so I went to the United States as an Au Pair. I ended up living in the USA for over 25 years while learning everything about the American way of life. I received my university education in the USA and I was able to teach English to non-English speakers. Throughout my years I was able to do some translating as a freelancer on a part-time basis. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in 1993 in Commercial Spanish. During my undergraduate studies I was also required to translate from Spanish to English. I also studied English linguistics and took several writing courses such as Business Writing. I received my Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Denver in Global Affairs in 2014. My courses included some translation courses such as Introduction to Translation and Basic Translation. I started my translation career back in 1995 on a part-time basis translating beauty and health related brochures and presentations from English to Finnish. I have also translated some travel guides from Finnish to English. Later on I have translated telemarketing presentations, rental agreements and other business-related items. I have travelled extensively in the USA and lived in three different states. I relocated to Spain in 2018 where I have been teaching English to Spaniards. I have also taught English online to children in China. I am very detail-oriented and a hard-worker. I look forward to all translation projects so I can show my expertise in Finnish and American English. |
