I am a freelance translator and proofreader based in Japan, with several years of experience in Japanese to English translation and English proofreading. I have recently completed a Ph.D. in Japanese Linguistics, and my graduate training has given me not only a firm grasp of some of the theoretical issues that arise in Japanese > English translation, but also a high level of academic Japanese and the research skills necessary to deal with material across a wide range of subjects. While I specialize in the humanities and social sciences, I have experience dealing with a wide range of materials, including contracts, technical manuals, marketing copy, and personal correspondence. I am capable of translating into British or American English, and am comfortable working with a variety of file formats, including scanned PDFs.
