French to English: prose from A.S. Byatt - Possession General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English When he returned home that night, he could sense that Val was in a mood. The kitchen was full of sharp smell of frying onions, which meant that she was cooking something complicated. When she was feeling apathetic, Val opened some tines or boiled eggs. When she was either very cheerful or very angry, she cooked. When he came in, She stood next to the table slicing courgettes and aubergine, and did not raise her eyes to look at him, so the mood was bad. He put down his back quietly.
They had a little one-roomed flat, painted white, and was furnished with a bed, two very old armchairs, and a second hand desk where Roland worked. At the end of the room, the window opened out to a little yard with steps leading to the garden. It was long with lots of grass, fruit, and flowers. And yet it was forbidden. The owner, Madame Irving, who lived upstairs, believed that all young people were the same - careless and dangerous.
'Shall I get a bottle of wine?' Roland asked. Val responded quite disagreeably, 'You should have thought of that earlier; It'll all go cold.'

I am a British male, born and raised in Northern Ireland with a native grasp of English, compounded by a grammar education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. I am fluent in French, having developed this through studies in the language at Queen's University Belfast and through spending an extended period of time teaching as an English Language assistant in Arras, France. Translation, interpretation and understanding was at the forefront of my duties as an assistant.
For the past three years, I have utilised my French skills within the fast-paced, logistics and supply chain sector, specifically in the supply of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. I have employed them to communicate with key clientele across various French-speaking countries internationally, namely Africa, and have seen many profitable business relationships develop as a consequence. Translation has been a big focus within these interactions through the development and interpretation of French legal, technical, and marketing documents. This has aided the authorisation of goods within the respective countries of market and help promote goods within individual distributor's target markets.
I am passionate about the French language and I believe my experience in translating within a business profession, specifically medical goods, could be of great benefit across many boards. I am an extremely approachable and hard-working individual who seeks to get the job completed, quickly, effectively, and to a very high standard.
I my spare time I enjoy fitness and weightlifting as hobbies, as well as having a great interest in playing guitar. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends.
