- Yo no he robado nada.
Translation - English THE UNEXPECTED
As soon as Erdosain opened the management door made out of Japanese glass, he wanted to back off. He smelled he was surrounded but it was already too late.
Waiting for him, there were the manager, a stocky short man with this buffalo head, grey hair cut in the style of Umberto I, and a relentless look escaping from his grey pupils, like those of a fish; Gualdi, the short, skinny, mawkish accountant with monitoring eyes; and the associate manager, son of the buffalo-headed man, a totally white-haired handsome man of 30 years, cynical aspect, raspy voice, and same critical look as his father’s. None of these three characters, the manager leaning over some spreadsheets, the associate manager reclining on the Club Chair with a leg swaying over the backrest, and Mr. Gualdi, who was respectfully standing up next to the desk; none of them responded to Erdosain’s greeting.
The associate manager just confined himself to raise his head:
“We’ve received this complaint claiming that you are a swindler, who had stolen six hundred pesos from us”
“And seven cents” added Mr. Gualdi, while using an absorbent to dry the signature the manager had recently entered into a spreadsheet. Then, the manager looked up, as if making a tremendous effort to straighten his bison’s neck. He had his fingers locked on the eyelets of his waistcoat and he displayed a clever look through his halfway shut eyelids while he analyzed without resentment the haggard appearance of Erdosain, who remained unflappable.
“Why are you dressed up like a bum?” he inquired.
“I’m just a debt collector.”
“And what about the money you had stolen us?”
“I didn’t steal anything. This is bullshit.”
“So, are you ready to render the account?”
“As soon as possible.”
