Source text - English Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dim'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrim'd:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Translation - Russian

Source text - Russian

Translation - English Each time, when I’m picking my best flowers,
My favourite ones, that’s Lily of the Valley named,
My soul is full of sadness, luck of gladness,
My voice entreatily appeals my future’s days
To have a look at lovely flowers again
At least just once in next year’s May.
Them have already faded, and that’s all.
The summer’s arrowed too. The days become too short,
Birds chorus keeps its winter ever silent,
The Sun gives us less warmth, it’s stinginess for shining,
And we can only see some leaves, like coloured karpet lying,
Were it to be the truth, the forest might afraid of cold.
Then up to time of our severe winter coming, even
When forests dress oneselves in snow mantle, then
I’ll have been cheerlessly with my sad hope walking
And waiting for the spring Sun brightening and again
I’m waiting for the sunshine in the heavens.
These time I’m not enjoyed any book or talking, even inner,
I’m not enjoyed fast run of sledge or horse indeed,
Both neither Patti**, nor the theatre, nor the delicious dinner
Can make me glad as well as fire-place fire crashing didn’t,
If there was no joy in noisy flash of ball.
In short, there isn’t any in the world that can alone let me well
Till I’ve heard a new spring coming bell.
I’m waiting for the spring. That time Enchantress came.
Has forest taken off its shroud, giving us the shade,
The grove returnes its chirrup, rivers also run so high,
At last the day, being so much missed for, come.
I’m in a hurry to so known forest way, I’m running fast.
Can really my dreams come true or I’m still dreaming?..
Here it is! Having leaned over the ground I’m picking up at last
My flower, I’m paltipated to the miracle by spring-Enchantres given.
I wonder, why do we fix our eyes on you, oh Landysh, so just,
Being much enjoyed and much delighted even?
While there are a lot of much more luxurios flowers
In our world and much more splendid ones,
There’s much more charm in hem, gay in its patterns, colours,
But only secret prettiness of yours there is none.
What is the secret of your magic force in, Landysh?
What are you ever telling our soul and our time?
It isn’t only mystery, your charm and beauty, is it?
What’s our heart enjoyed forever and attracted by?
May, you rebuilt illusory of our former gladness!
Or may it be because you promise coming bliss?
I don’t know. But I know that your own fragrance
Like stream of wine, give out warmth to me,
Like music, touches my breath, being oppressed,
I’m drunked in with the beauty of yours and it is
As fire of love, it nourishes blush of cheeks.
How happy am I while you’re still in blossom,
Oh, modest Landysh, there’s no even trace of winter boredom day,
There is no one depressing thought in my mind also,
I’m glad to see you and forget all evil and misfortune,
My heart is in the lanquid bliss so gay.
But, what a pity, you have faded yet.
And soon my days’ll pass in silence,
I’ll dream of happiness. One like another, day by day will run,
And I’ll be soon oppressed much more than ever, sadness
Will be the only sense till next May happy days have come
And got me free from suffering of nagging sense of sadness,
Fulfilling all my heart again with sense of joy and gladness.
-----
I think that sometime spring will rouse
All the alive world up once more.
It’ll arouse every one alive, who knows,
May be, I won’t be among them any more.
This turn’ll be mine and I’ll be met
By fatal turn on time as others had,
Who aren’t alive, whose turn has come as well,
Who hasn’t been awaked by new spring coming bell.
I don’t know what there’ll be round,
And where could my soul someday once gone,
Flying away the Earth without any sound
And listening to the voice of heavens’s smile in hour of death?
Don’t speak my searching mind! I know there’s no answer
To all my questions there, but I’d like to find,
And so I want my searching mind decide one matter
Does the eternity prepare us for better?
But there’s even no one to guide.
We always call for spring, we’re looking forward to its beauty,
But till we feel so eagerness to live,
As everything alive in nature’s duty,
We’ll soon and again, as always, wait for it!
We are not so near the Earth, not so enjoyed one’s life the less,
The more we are afraid of darkness of the death!

General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - Russian
Как с другом сердце к сердцу жить;
Во всем оказывать взаимную услугу;
Мы дня не проживем без драки;
Ну целоваться;
Translation - English Once, there were two dogs lying down in the sunshine
Under the kitchen window, though
It would be better, if they both that time
Were watching over their house
Nearby the gates out-of-doors;
One of them was called Polkan, and the other one Barbos.
But as they had already eaten
A plenty of some food,
Besides, it's known, civil dogs
Don't bark in a day-time at any,
Together they began discussion of everythings:
Of goog, of no good, of the dog's service
And as well, at last, of friendship namely.
"What may," Polkan said, "be more pleasant, than to live
One's heart-to-heart with better friend;
One should't drink or even eat without the other, I mean,
At once must be at one-another's mutual service,
To rise against oppression for "friend's hair" always,
To look up to riend's eyes with the only aim a happy chance to seize
To find, if there something is
To fun, may, to amuse his friend with,
In happyness of friend one's own bliss to find!
If, for example, there were such friendship between us,
You see, courageously I should say thus:
We should't even notice, how time flies."
"But why not? I think, in very deed!"
Barbos answered to him back,
"It very hurts me too, dear Polkan, indeed,
That being both dogs of one yard,
We are not able to live nevertheless without any scrap
Or fight for just a day; but why on earth?
We don't suffer neither from starvation
Nor narrowness of place because of our master's love,
Whom we are gratefull, of course!
Besides, for all that, truly, shame on us:
Inspite the fact that dogs have been reputing
As symbol of deep friendship ever since far days,
There hardly have been any friendship seen,
As if among the people, but the dogs between."
"But here we are to show it up
As an example of the friendship nowadays!"
Polkan uttered a cry, "Give me your hand!"
"Here it is!" And all this had started a new friends to kiss
And to embrace each other, they had hardly find
To whom for joy to be compared with:
"My Orestes!" "Oh, Pylades mine!"
"Let our anger, squabbles, envy gone!"
The trouble was, that cook just threw a bone
The very moment from the kitchen.
New friends just chused each other rushing along
To be the first to catch the bone.
Why was it hard to them just to get on?
And where, I should ask, all their love had gone?
My Orestes had with Pylades a scrap,
Just only their shreads were flying up:
Were hardly they spilled water with at last.
---------
The world's full of such kind of a friendship.
One hardly cannot say without to commit a sin,
That all of them are in their friendship almost equal:
They are living in concord and pease, might seem,
Their souls are in close unity, untill
The day, when somebody desides to threw a bone to them,
And they at once become the worse than your dogs then.
