''Translation of Children’s Literaturedz is the dominant label for this area of study that some scholars prefer to label ''Translation for Children'' or ''Translating for Children'' since such labels emphasize that children are intended readers, not a textual trait. Translation of children’s literature is characterized by a series of traits. Among these, the most commonly treated by scholars in the field are: (1) cultural context adaptation, (2) ideological manipulation, (3) dual readership (the targeted audience includes both children and adults), (4) features of orality, and (5) the relationship between text and image. 1.Cultural context adaptation Cultural context adaptation is Klingberg’s (1986) term for modifications that aim to adjust a text to the prospective readers’ frames of reference. The category includes the use of literary references, foreign languages, historical background, flora and fauna, proper names, weights and measures and other culture-specific phenomena. Klingberg argues that children’s literature, as a rule, ''is produced with a special regard to the (supposed) interests, needs, reactions, knowledge, reading ability and so on of the intended readers'' (Klingberg 1986: 11). Since the cultural contexts of the source and target texts’ readers differ, the target text will become difficult to understand or less interesting if the translator of a children’s text does not adapt it to the prospective target readers’ frames of reference. On the other hand, Klingberg also stresses that one of the main pedagogical goals with translated children’s literature is that it may further young readers’international outlook and understanding. If translators adapt all cultural elements, such understanding will not be enhanced. Most studies on culture-specific phenomena in translations of children’s literature, also recent studies carried out within descriptive and/or functional frameworks, point at a certain loss for the child reader when cultural phenomena are reproduced without context adaptation. Studies on cultural elements thus make evident a (supposed) need for cultural context adaptation in translation for children. However, and as already pointed out by Klingberg (1986: 10), ''the struggle between consideration for the original text and regard for the intended readers is [...] as old as translation itself.'' Adaptation and domestication are however not negative or positive as such, which translation strategy or strategies to choose depends rather on the translation project as a whole: whether e.g., readability is more important than a historical and/or foreign atmosphere has to do with the specific translation project, the translation situation and the translator’s image of children (Oittinen 2000: 91).

Çocuk edebiyatı çevirisi birçok özellik tarafından şekillendirilmiştir. Bu özellikler arasında araştırmacılar tarafından en çok ele alınanları: (1) kültürel bağlam uyarlaması, (2) ideolojik manipülasyon, (3) iki yönlü okuma (hedef okur kitlesi çocuk ve yetişkinlerin her ikisini de içerir), (4) sözellik özellikleri, ve (5) metin ve görüntü arasındaki ilişki.
1. Kültürel Bağlam Uyarlaması
Kültürel bağlam uyarlaması, Klingberg'in (1986) bir metni, olası okuyucuların atıfta bulunabilecekleri çerçeve içerisinde düzenlemeyi amaçlayan değişikliklere verdiği isimdir. Bu kategori, edebi referansların kullanımı, yabancı diller, tarihsel arka plan, hayvan ve bitki örtüsü, özel isimler, ağırlık ve ölçüler ve diğer kültüre özgü fenomenleri içerir. Klingberg, bir kural olarak, çocuk edebiyatının; (varsayılmış) ilgilere, ihtiyaçlara, tepkilere, bilgiye, okuma kabiliyetine özellikle dikkat edilerek oluşturulması durumunu tartışır. Kaynak ve hedef kitle okurunun bağlamları değiştiğinden, çocuk metni çevirmeninin olası okuyucuların atıfta bulunabilecekleri çerçeveye göre uyarlama yapmaması durumunda, hedef metin anlaşılması zor yahut daha az ilgi çekici hale gelir. Öte yandan, Klingberg, tercüme edilmiş çocuk edebiyatının ana pedagojik amaçlarından bir tanesinin de genç okuyucuların uluslarası bakış açısı ve anlayışını da geliştirebilmek olduğunu vurgular. Eğer çevirmenler tüm kültürel ögeleri uyarlarlarsa, bu tip bir anlayış gelişmeyecektir.
Çocuk edebiyatı çevirisindeki kültüre özgü fenomenler üzerine yapılan araştırmaların çoğu, aynı zamanda son zamanlarda yapılan betimsel ve işlevsel çerçevede yürütülmüş çalışmalar, kültürel fenomenler bağlam uyarlaması göz önüne alınmadan yeniden üretildiğinde çocuk okuyucularda oluşan belirli bir kayba dikkat çekiyor. Kültürel unsurlar üzerinde yapılan çalışmalar, çocuklar için çeviri alanında bağlam uyarlamasının (varsayılan) gerekliliğine bir kanıt niteliği taşıyor. Ancak, Klingberg tarafından da dikkat çekildiği gibi (1986: 10), ''asıl metne odaklanmak ile hedef okuru hesaba katmak arasındaki mücadele […] çevirinin kendisi kadar eski bir meseledir.'' Öte yandan uyarlama ve yerelleştirme, seçilecek çeviri stratejisi ya da stratejileri çeviri projesine tercihen bir bütün olarak bakılıp bakılmadığına bağlı olduğundan, olumlu ya da olumsuz olarak kategorilendirilemez. Örnek olarak, tarihsel ve/veya yabancı atmosferin okunaklılıktan daha önemli olup olmadığı özel olarak yapılan çeviri projesi, çeviri şartları ve çevirmenin aklındaki çocuk imajı ile ilgili bir durumdur. (Oittinen 2000: 91)

I was born in 1996 in Konya. After finishing a science high school I found out that I was more interested in social sciences and languages. As a result of these new goals, I am studying Translation and Interpreting in İstanbul 29 Mayıs University, completing numerous translation projects weekly and improving my competences in translation technologies by learning CAT Tools such as Smartcat and etc. Also, I am double majoring at the department of Political Science and International Relations which made me discover that I am highly interested in international relations. Personally, I would like to meet with new people and organize events or projects thanks to my organizational skills.
