I freelance translate Russian and Ukrainian to English. My background is in Ukrainian and Russian
literature and languages, which included courses in linguistics, and I received a doctoral degree in 2000 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I spent the next five years teaching writing and English as a Second Language at the City Colleges of Chicago, so I reinforced for my writing knowledge and skills of English grammar, mechanics and usage.
I am currently working towards receiving a Certification in copyediting from the University of California San Diego Extension Program in March 2020 when I complete the fourth of a series of courses. I have also taken copy editing and proofreading courses through the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and I'm a member of this organization.
Currently I work as a freelance translator for Nielsen (formerly Ebiquity), a market research company, RWS, Life Sciences, with a focus on clinical research trial documents, and AmeriLing, for whom I translate a variety of documents and texts. I also work for two testing companies, Educational Testing Service and Pearson Testing, evaluating student writing on writing and essay exams.
As an independent freelance translator I also translate documents (birth, death and marriage certificates, college diplomas and transcripts), registrations for certifying medical products, medical questionnaires, business and legal contracts, lease contracts, company bylaws, newspaper and magazine articles, product ads and brochures. I have translated an academic article in design, travel brochures, dialogues for use in educational video, and transcriptions for video and film.
I have also checked, proofread and edited translations by other translators or that were machine translated.
