台湾 国民党トップが辞任 総統選敗北の責任取る
今月11日に行われた台湾の総統選挙で、与党・民進党の蔡英文総統が再選されたことを受けて、対立候補を擁立していた最大野党・国民党のトップが選挙で敗北した責任を取って15日、辞任しました。
今月11日に行われた台湾の総統選挙では、現職の与党・民進党の蔡英文総統が、過去最多となる800万を超える票を獲得して最大野党・国民党の韓国瑜氏らを破って再選され、同時に行われた議会に当たる立法院の選挙でも民進党が過半数を維持しました。
この選挙結果を受けて、国民党トップの呉敦義主席は、15日開かれた党の中央常務委員会で、「私が責任を負う。非常に申し訳ない」と述べ、選挙で敗北した責任を取って辞任しました。
新しい主席を選ぶ選挙は、ことし３月７日に行われるということです。
国民党は、２年前の統一地方選挙で躍進し、今回の総統選挙で政権交代を目指していました。
しかし去年、香港で起きた抗議活動への中国の強硬な姿勢に対して台湾の人々の間で反発が広がり、中国に融和的な立場の国民党にとって逆風となりました。
国民党では、党内の若い世代から執行部の世代交代を求める声も上がっていて、党勢の立て直しが喫緊の課題となっています。

Head of Taiwanese Nationalist Party Resigns in Response To Election Loss
The Taiwanese presidential election held on the 11th of January, the president of Taiwan, the Democratic party’s Tsai Ing-wen was re-elected. After losing the election, the leader of the opposing nationalist party resigned, effective from the 15th.
Tsai Ing-wen won the election with a record number of votes, over 8 million. Tsai Ing-wen defeated Han Kuo-yu and was re-elected. At the same time gained a majority in the Legislative Yuan.
Due to the results of this election, The Nationalist party leader, Wu Den-yih, made a statement to the central committee on the 15th, “I take responsibility for our loss. I am incredibly sorry.” He then resigned in order to take responsibility for the loss.
At present, it appears that the election to choose the new leader of the party will be held on the 7th of March, 2020.
The nationalist party made great advances in the nationwide local elections two years ago. This presidential election aimed to change the government.
However, the protests in Taiwan last year against China’s unyielding position has increased the anti-Chinese sentiment among the people. This has been seen as unfavourable by China.
The younger generations in the Natinalist party have let it be known that they wish for younger leaders within the party. This has brought into question the urgent need to restructure the party.
