Professional practices Liudmila Taratina endorses's Professional Guidelines.

A native speaker of Russian, I live and work in Moscow. I qualified as an English to Russian translator in 1998 and I have been working as a freelance translator ever since.

I specialize in psychology, pharma/medicine, and above all in transportation (shipping/customs). I also have experience in translating general texts, legal documents, website and marketing content, creative writing.

Larger projects I have worked on include:

  • a 7-year LSP contract with FedEx Express Corporation (interpreting at meetings, training sessions with the employees, negotiations with customs/airport officials; translation of business communications, legal documents, technical manuals, and job aids)

  • a 2-year long translation/localization project commissioned by FedEx Express via a translation agency (working on technical and marketing content)

  • cooperation as a translator and editor with a publishing house (translation of 4 book titles on psychology, approx. 370 000 words; reviewing/proofreading works of other translators)

  • a 2-year period of work as a translator/interpreter at a scientific institute (in the sector of pharmaceuticals; translation of drug dossiers, clinical trial documents, articles, etc.)

My experience at a publishing house has made me an accomplished reviewer/proofreader. I know what to look for in a text, how to polish the wording and the style, and I understand the importance of detail.

My strength lies in the understanding of the power of words and the ability to convey the communicative intention of the source text in an elegant and precise way.

My personal interests are visual arts, sports/fitness, and traveling/lifestyle. I read a lot on these subjects in English so texts to translate about these topics are always welcome.
