Bio

I started writing and reading more seriously when I was in my secondary education. I was first introduced to Enid Blyton, R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike before I fell in love with J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter's series. That was when my English began to improve tremendously.

At the same time, I was also representing my school in the Malay debating competitions and championships. Hence, my proficiency in Malay language was better than most of my peers. I always scored the highest in my Malay language examinations.

I tried my passion in writing by sending short stories - both in Malay and English - to my school magazine. One of the teachers who was in-charged of the school magazine's editorial team - who was also the English debating team's coach at that time - was so impressed with my English short story that she wished more students can come up with captivating stories like that of mine.

Then I went to one of the most prestigious A-Levels colleges in Malaysia. There, I met many friends who were much better in English - be it in spoken or written - than myself. It struck me hard. I was so determined not to be left out that I worked harder to improve my proficiency in this language.

My readings also became more advanced when I started to embrace Jeffrey Archer, Dan Brown, Malcom Gladwell, Khaled Hosseini, Orhan Pamuk and many more. This investment proved fruitful as  my grammar and vocabulary were significantly enhanced.

And it certainly paid off. I was accepted to further my tertiary education in London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) - partly thanks to my personal statement written in perfect English. There in London, I started blogging - again both in Malay and English - where I talked and discussed on various issues from religion, politics, economics, social issues and many more. Blogging had certainly strengthened my writing and thinking skills.

I even carried my passion in blogging further when I finally published my own book sometime in 2014. I established my own publishing company in 2015 and to-date, we have published 10 books altogether - 5 of which were written by myself (all of them in Malay). I have also proofread and edited our only book (to-date) that was written in English.

I started venturing in translation sometime in 2011 when I got a job from a third party to translate some materials for Nestle Malaysia. Nestle must be satisfied with my translation services that I kept getting jobs from them. That was when I realised I can actually go far with translation. And that was when I started to consider translation as a serious profession.

Due to other pressing commitments, I had to temporarily halt my translation services. But now, I'm ready to strike back!
