Purpose: Bu çalışmanın amacı kanser tanısıyla hastanede yatan ergenlerin semptomları ile annelerinin stres düzeyinin ergenlerin yaşam kalitesine etkisini belirlemektir.
Method: Bu araştırma tanımlayıcı bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın örneklemine Türkiye’nin batısında bulunan üç hastanenin pediatrik hematoloji ve onkoloji kliniklerinde yatan, 10-18 yaşları arasında kanser olan 83 ergen ve anneleri alınmıştır. Veriler, Memorial Semptom Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Algılanan Stres Ölçeği ve Çocuklar için Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır.
Results: Annelerin algılanan stres ölçeği toplam ölçek puanı ortalaması 32.77±8.57 puan olarak bulunmuştur. Bu puan annelerin orta düzeyde stres yaşadığını göstermektedir. Kanser olan ergenlerin yaşam kalitesi ölçeği toplam ölçek puan ortalaması 60.76±16.17 olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu puan ergenlerin yaşam kalitesinin orta düzeyde olduğunu göstermektedir. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişki incelediğinde ise yaşam kalitesi ile Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale The Global Distress Index arasında negatif yönde orta derecede bir ilişki olduğu saptanmıştır (r=-,57). Ergenin yaşam kalitesi ile annenin stres düzeyi arasında negatif yönde zayıf derecede ilişki bulunmuştur (r=-,36). Ergenlerin semptom puanları ile annelerin stres düzeyi arasında ilişki bulunmamıştır (r=-.05). Annelerin stres düzeyi ile ergenlerin semptomlarının ergenlerin yaşam kalitesinin %43.7’sini açıkladığı belirlenmiştir.
Conclusions: Ergenlerin semptomları ve annelerinin stres düzeyinin ergenlerin yaşam kalitesini etkilediği görülmektedir. Bu nedenle ergenlerin semptomlarını ve annelerin stres düzeyini azaltmaya yönelik kanıta dayalı hemşirelik girişimlerinin uygulanması kanser olan ergenlerin yaşam kalitesini geliştirebilir.

Translation - English Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the symptoms of adolescents who are in the hospital with cancer diagnosis and the effect of mothers’ stress level on the adolescents’ quality of life.
Method: This research is a descriptive study. 83 adolescents, between the ages of 10-18, who are staying in the pediatric hematology and oncology unit in 3 hospitals in the west of Turkey and their mothers, were included in the research sample. Data were collected using the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale and the Children’s Quality of Life Scale.
Results: Total median scale score of the mothers’ perceived stress scale is found as 32.77±8.57. This score shows that the mothers experience medium level stress. Total median scale score for quality of life of the adolescents with cancer diagnosis is determined as 60.76±16.17. This score shows that the quality of life of the adolescents is on medium level. When the correlation between the variables is analysed, it is detected that there is a negative medium correlation between the quality of life and Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale the Global Distress Index (r=-,57). It is found that there is a negative low correlation between the adolescents’ quality of life and the stress level of the mothers (r=-,36). No correlation was found between the symptom scores of the adolescent and the stress level of the mothers (r=-.05). It is determined that the stress level of the mothers and the symptoms of the adolescents explain 43.7% of the adolescents’ quality of life.
Conclusions: It is seen that the symptoms of the adolescents and the stress level of the mothers affect the quality of life of the adolescents. Therefore, in order to reduce the symptoms of the adolescents and the stress level of the mothers, practicing nursing interventions based on evidence may improve the adolescents’ quality of life.
