Source text - English A typical pile-driving operation for a straight shell pile is illustrated in Figure 10-8. Figure 10-8a shows the pile stockpiled at the job site.Notice the depth marks that have been painted on the pile.These will be used during driving to facilitate counting the number of blows required to obtain a foot of penetration.
In the figure 10-8b, the piles have been hooked to the hoist cable and is being swung into position for lowering into a hollow casing previously driven into the ground.
After the shell has been lowered into the casing, the pile driver's mandrel is lowered into the shell.
The shell and mandrel are the raised from the casing and swung into position for driving.
The hammer drives the pile until the required depth or driving resistance is obtained. After the mandrel is raised, the shell is cut off at the required elevation with a cutting torch. When the reinforcing steel for the pile cap has been placed, the shell is ready to be filled with concrete.

Nhằm khắc phục những hạn chế đã nêu ở trên của phương pháp nghiên cứu thực nghiệm, những mô hình độ nhám bề mặt khi mài được xây dựng trên cơ sở phân tích về lý thuyết của quá trình mài đã được thực hiện bởi một số tác giả. Việc xây dựng mô hình nhám bề mặt trên cơ sở phân tích về lý thuyết của quá trình mài không bị ràng buộc về điều kiện gia công cụ thể, vì vậy phạm vi áp dụng của các mô hình đó có thể được thực hiện trong một phạm vi rộng. Trong bảng 1 trình bày một số mô hình độ nhám bề mặt khi mài. Trong số những mô hình này, từ mô hình (1) đến mô hình (6) đã được các tác giả xây dựng bằng phương pháp lý thuyết của quá trình cắt, không phụ thuộc vào điều kiện gia công cụ thể, do đó các mô hình này có khả năng ứng dụng rộng rãi. Tuy nhiên, trong các mô hình này chưa xét đến nhiều thông số có ảnh hưởng nhiều đến độ nhám bề mặt như chế độ sửa đá, loại đá mài, loại vật liệu gia công,… Đối với mô hình (7) và số (8) mặc dù cũng được xây dựng theo phương pháp lý thuyết nhưng để áp dụng những mô hình này lại cần phải có những nghiên cứu thực nghiệm để xác định giá trị của các hệ số R_1 và R_2 và các số mũ x_1, x_2. Mặt khác, hai mô hình này cũng chưa xét đến nhiều thông số có ảnh hưởng nhiều đến độ nhám bề mặt (tương tự như mô hình (1) đến (6)). Như vậy, việc áp dụng hai mô hình này vào việc dự đoán độ nhám bề mặt cũng còn nhiều hạn chế.
Translation - English Some models of surface roughness in grinding
In order to transcend the limitations of experimental research methods, some researchers built surface roughness models in grinding based on the theoretical analysis of the grinding process. Building models in this way is not constrained to specific machining conditions. Thus, the scope of application of those models may be relatively wide. Table 1 presents some models of surface roughness in grinding. Among these models, models (1) to (6) are built by the theoretical method of the cutting process, not affected by the specific machining conditions, hence, they have wide applicability. However, these models do not take into account many of influencing parameters on the surface roughness such as dressing mode, type of grindstone, type of processed materials… Models (7) and (8), though also based on the theoretical method, need to be experimentally studied to determine the values of R_1, R_2 coefficients and x_1, x_2 exponents when applying them. Moreover, these two models do not consider many of parameters that affect surface roughness (similar to models (1) to (6)). As a result, the application of these two models in predicting surface roughness is still limited.
