An American born and raised in Japan. Currently living in Yokohama(about 40minutes outside Tokyo), working as an English teacher at a private English conversation school.
I am fluent in both English and Japanese, and consider both to be my mother tongue.
My Japanese education consists of 12years in Japanese public schools, and a college education at Waseda university(majoring in liberal studies, especially film/media) that was partly in Japanese and partly in English.
My English education consists largely of home schooling by my father who is a Linguistics professor at a Japanese university. He took much care to provide me with a solid English education so that I would grow up to be educated comprehensively in two languages. While in University I did one year study abroad in Madrid at Carlos3 university, where all my classes were in English(also mainly film/media/marketing related classes).
I have had several part time jobs in the past relating to translation, interpreting and text editing in both Japanese and English. Also, although of course completely unofficial, I have spent my entire life translating for my parents who can speak Japanese to an extent, but cannot read the language at all.
I am only just getting started in this industry. Therefore, while I undoubtedly have extensive experience in translation, interpreting etc, I have no official portfolio or business experience, which is why I have set my rates very low for the first few jobs.
I do not miss deadlines, and I take pride in being diligent, producing high quality work and striving to meet the expectations of clients.
