Source text - Arabic توفيتُ منذ ساعتين من الآن .. أجل .. أجل .. أنا الآن ميتة .. حتى أنا لا أكاد أصدق كيف حصل الأمر فجأة .. كنت أعتقد أن كبار السن هم فقط من يأخذهم الموت .. لكنّي الآن ميتة .. أنا طفلة الأربعة عشر عاماً .. عندما كنت طفلةً في الخامسة ماتت جدتي التي لطالما أحببتها .. فقدانها آلمني .. لطالما حنت عليَّ وضمتني لصدرها لتنسيني حياتي القاسية .. أتعبني فراقها حدَّ المرض .. حينها أخبرتني أمي أن الموت حملها للسماء وصارت طيفاً .. كلما اشتاقت لنا زارتنا .. من يومها لم يعد الموت يخيفني .. إلى أن مررت به الليلة .. لم يكن الأمر وردياً كما صوّرته لي أمي .. لقد كان مؤلماً وقاسياً .. جاءني على صورة رجل بشع ومخيف في الأربعين من عمره .. رائحة أنفاسه كريهة ونظراته ثابتة مثل ذئب جائع .. باغتني هذا الموت وأنا نائمة في السرير .. لم أستطع مقاومته .. صرت وكأنّي في غيبوبة .. رؤيتي تشوشت .. لفَني البرد .. رأسي تثاقل .. فقدت الإحساس بجسدي الصغير وتخدّرت تماماً .. بدأت أصواتٌ غريبةٌ تعلو لا أفهم منها شيئاً .. لقد شعرت به يمتص ما بي من حياة قطرة قطرة ... أغمضت عينيَّ واستسلمت له .. للموت .. ها أنا ذا ميتة .. وكما أخبروني على الدوام أن شريط حياتنا يمرُ أمام أعيننا عندما نموت .. فها هو شريط حياتي القصيرة يمر .. فأمشي معه محطة محطة .. المحطة الأولى : أمل طفلة الست سنوات: أجلس قرب أمي وهي تحيك كنزةً صوفية نسيت لونها .. اتأمل الخطوط التي رسمتها السنون على وجهها فتحكي قصة عذابها مع أبي .. تنظر لي وأنا أراقبها .. تقربني منها وتضمني .. وكأنها تعتذر لي عن قسوة والدي .. عن حياتي بأكملها .. عمّا مضى.. وعمّا سيأتي !! تخبرني أنها هي من اختارت أن تسميني أمل .. لطالما رددت أمامي أنّي نعمتها .. ولطالما ردد أبي أنّي مصيبته ! .. فاجعته الكبرى .. لقد انتظر الصبيً طويلاً .. وعندما أنجبتني أمي بعد عقمٍ طويل كنت أملها .. وخيبته (الأصوات التي سمعتها لحظة موتي لا زالت تعلو ولا أعي منها شيئاً !!! ) المحطة الثانية : أمل طفلة العشر سنوات : أنا في منزل عمتي الآن مع والدتي وعدد من نساء الحيّ .. يحتفلون بي لأنني صرت فتاةً كبيرة! كان من المفترض أن أكون سعيدة كما كل الطفلات في سني .. ألعب بدميتي .. وأتناول الحلوى بشهية! لكني الآن منهمكة بإخفاء الكدمات على يدي تحت أكمام الفستان الذي صغر على مقاسي كثيراً .. خيبةُ أمل مصدر هذه الكدمات هو أبي طبعاً! لقد طلبت منه البارحة أن يسمح لي بالعودة إلى المدرسة! جن جنونه .. ثارت ثائرته .. أبرحني ضرباً .. تعلقت عيناي بأمي علّها تنجدني من بين يديه لكنها اعتادت الأمر .. وبقيت تنظر لي بحسرة .. انتهى من ضربي .. وأخبرني أن مكاني الآن لم يعد بين الأطفال في المدرسة! مكاني الآن في بيت الزوجية! (الأصوات تعلو أكثر فأكثر .. أشعر بالانزعاج!) المحطة الثالثة : أمل طفلة الأربعة عشر عاماً: هذا اليوم الذي يسبق وفاتي بشهرين .. كنت أجلس على الأرض أصفف شعر دميتي الوحيدة وأفكر بأن أتعلم الصوف من أمي لأحيك لها ثياباً وفساتين .. دخل أبي فجأة .. عيناه متقدتان وأنفاسه مسموعة .. علمت أن أمراً لا يبشر بالخير على وشك الوقوع .. وكان هذا ما حصل .. أخبر أمي أن تبدأ بحياكة ثياب جديدة لي وفستان زفاف! أجل .. بهذه البساطة نقل لنا الخبر! لقد وجد لي عريساً وأراد أن يزوجني! .. إنه جارنا الأرمل الأربعينيَ .. وأنا طفلة الأربعة عشر عام .. عروسه! ارتميت على قدميه .. رجوته ألا يفعل بي هذا .. رجوت أمي أن تمنعه .. طلبت منها أن نهرب من البيت معاً .. ألا تدعني أموت .. أجل .. لم أرغب بأن أموت .. مضت الأيام ثقيلة مُتعِبة وأنا أرزح تحت وطأتها .. أقيس الثياب الجديدة وأسمع توصيات أمي مراراً حول الحياة الزوجية! في كل ليلة كنت أضم لعبتي .. أتوسل لله أن ينقذني .. أخبره أني خائفة .. أحاول أن أبكي فلا أستطيع .. لقد فقدت قدرتي على البكاء (الأصوات صارت أعلى .. أستطيع فهمها الآن .. إنها زغاريد!) المحطة الرابعة والأخيرة : ليلة زفافي: أسميتها ليلة النحر .. ألبسوني الفستان الأبيض ... مشوا بي إلى غرفتي الجديدة في منزلي الجديد .. تركوني وحيدةً جالسةً على السرير فيها .. ذهبوا إلى الخارج أغلقوا الباب وعلت زغاريدهم .. تمددت على السرير .. جاء الموت .. فستان الزفاف الأبيض ما هو إلا كفن .. متّ .. صرت طيفاً أروي لكم الآن قصتي .. حاولت أن أبحث في شريط حياتي عن لحظة حلوة .. لكني لم أجد .. دمعة حارقةٌ تسيل على وجنتي! أستطيع البكاء الآن! لكن مهلاً !! أنا ميتة .. أنا طيف ! الأموات لا يبكون ! أفتح عينيّ .. لا لا .. لست ميتة ! هذا الموت الذي كنت أعتقده ما هو إلا "زوجي"! وهو الآن إلى جانبي! .. أبكي وأبكي وأبكي .. أرغب في التقيؤ .. نعم .. أنا لست ميتة .. لكنني فارقت الحياة .. أنا لست طيفاً .. أنا جسد .. وليس للأجساد معنىً .. فقد قتلوا طفولتي .. أحلامي .. عمري كله .. أجل يا أبي .. أنا لست أمل .. مكاني لم يعد في المدرسة .. ودميتي ما عدت أريدها .. أجل يا أبي .. فمن هذا اليوم .. من يوم نحري هذا لم أعد أمل .. لقد صرت الخيبة كما كنت تقول .. حقاً خيبة .. تمَّت . هامش : هذه القصة سردت على لسان الطفلة أمل، وهي من خيال مؤلفتها، أمل غير موجودة ولكن هناك أخريات موجودات، تسلب طفولتهن يومياً تحت مسمى الزواج، كان أمراً محيراً اختيار اسم الطفلة في القصة، كان من الممكن أن يكون اسمها أحلام أو أماني أو فرح! لكن يبقى الأمل صديق الطفولة وتبقى الطفولة هي الأمل، من هنا وقع الاختيار على اسمها. فلندعها تكبر بسلام، لنحمي (الأمل) معاً ولو بكلمة .. لا للزواج المبكر .. لا لتزويج الطفلات . ________________________________________	Translation - English I have been dead two hours ago ….Yes ,indeed…..I am dead right now… I myself cannot believe how it suddenly happened …I thought that the ones who die are only the old people , but now I am already dead … Yes, I am…."The fourteen-years-old child ".. When I was five my grandmother passed away … Her loss agonized me..She had always been tender-hearted to me ..She used to embrace me to help me forget the cruelty of my life.Being apart from her wore me down ,by then , my mother told me that death carried grandmother to the sky and she turned into a spirit … She would visit us whenever she misses us.. Ever since that day , death no longer scares me until I have been through it tonight … It was not as sweet as my mother pictured it ….It was painful and ruthless… It came in shape of an ugly, fearsome, forty- years- old man…. His breath is loathsome and his stares are fixed like a ravenous wolf… It overtook me when I was sleeping in my bed and I could not resist it .. As if I have become unconscious ,blurred was my vision ,chillness wrapped me around ,light headed.. I could not feel my little body anymore ; completely numb… Weird voices are raising ,I cannot understand any .. I felt like he was absorbing my liveliness drop by drop … I closed my eyes and surrendered to him … to death.. Here I am , dead… The story of our lives , as they always told me , runs in front of our eyes when we die. Here is the film of my short life story running ..I am passing by every stop , one after one . The first stop : Amal , the six-years-old child.. Sitting nearby my mother while she was knitting a woolen sweater which I cannot remember its color right now ..While I was observing the lines drawn by the passage of years on her countenance , she narrated the story of her agony with my father … She looked at me while I was watching her , brought me closer and embraced me… As if she was apologizing to me for my father's cruelty , for my whole life , for what had already passed and for what was going to happen …. She told me that she was the one who had chosen to name me Amal "Hope", telling me all the time that I was her blessing, while my father was repeating frequently that I was his ordeal ..his greatest calamity .. He had been waiting too long for a baby boy..When my mother brought me to life after a long period of infertility , I have become her hope and his disappointment .. The voices I have heard at the time of my death are still raising . Again, I cannot understand any of it.. The second stop : Amal, the ten-years-old child.. Right now I am at my aunt's house with my mother and a number of women from the neighborhood.. They were celebrating because I became a young girl.. I was supposed to be happy like all children at my age ..playing with my doll and eating sweet heartily… Now I am busy covering up the bruises on my hands under the sleeves of the dress that shrank to be too small in size … The origin of these bruises was obviously my father. Yesterday I asked him to let me go back to school.. He went crazy , outraged and battered me furiously … My eyes were supplicating my mother to rescue me from his hands but she had been used to it…She kept watching me sorrowfully … When he finished battering me , he told me that from now on my place is not among children at school . It is at my husband's house..! The voices are raising more and more….I feel annoyed.. The third stop : Amal, the fourteen-years- old child.. Two months before my death..I was sitting on the floor , styling my single doll hair while thinking about learning from my mother to knit it dresses and clothes. Suddenly, my father entered… his eyes were blazing…the sound of his breaths was heard….I knew that something ominous was about to happen… That was what happened actually…He asked my mother to start knitting me new clothes and a wedding dress ! Yes , just as simple as that , he found me a spouse and he wanted me to marry him.. It was our neighbor, a forty -years- old widower , and I, the fourteen years old child , was supposed to be his bride ! I knelt at his feet ; "Do not do this to me !" I begged him .. I begged my mother to stop him…I asked her to run away together…" Do not let me die !"…Yes…I did not want to die.. The days passed heavily and tiresomely while I was in pain trying the new clothes and listening over and over again to my mother's recommendations about marriage.. I embraced my doll every night …I supplicated God to save me , telling him that I was scared , trying vainly to cry but I couldn't…I have lost my ability to cry… The voices are louder..Now I can understand ; they are trills!… The fourth and the last stop ….My wedding night… I called it " the slaughter night" … They made me wear the white dress , walked me to my new room in my new home , and left me there alone sitting on the bed.. They got out and closed the door ….Their trills raised ..I lied on the bed… The death has come…The white wedding dress was nothing but a shroud.. I was dead…I turned into a spirit that is telling you my story… I tried to search for one sweet moment throughout my lifetime but I could not find any. A burning tear is running on my face !… Now I can cry ! Wait ! I am dead right now….I am a spirit….Dead people do not cry ! I am opening my eyes …No …I am not dead yet… What I believed to be death was nothing but my husband..He is lying beside me now.. Crying …Crying…Crying … I wish to throw up .. Yes ..I am not dead but I have departed this life.. I am not a spirit ..I am a mere body.. Bodies mean nothing.. They killed my childhood, my dreams and my whole lifetime… " Yes Father…I am not Amal…My place is no more at school..I no more want my doll.." " Yes Father…From this day forth ,the day I was slaughtered, I am no longer Amal…. I am the disappointment as you have always called me… A real disappointment…" fin Margin : This story was narrated by a child whose name is Amal " hope". It is imaginated by the author. Amal does not exist but other children do exist actually …Everyday their childhood is stolen in the name of marriage …. Choosing the child's name was confusing . It could be Ahlam ( dreams) or Amani (wishes) or Farah ( joy), none the less ,hope remains to be a friend of childhood and childhood remains to mean hope , for this reason, the name "Amal" was chosen … Let her grow up peacefully..Let us protect the hope even by a single word… Say No to early marriage … No to child marriage... ________________________________________
