Russian to English: “Birdamlik” not allowed to travel to their congress from Uzbekistan! General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Government / Politics
Source text - Russian
Translation - English Police in Jizzakh region confiscated the passport of Nuriniso Kholbayeva, in order to prevent her participating in the meeting of the organization “Birdamlik” in the USA.
On March 15, people’s movement of Uzbekistan “Birdamlik” (“Unity”) of Jizzakh received an order to appear at the police station.
A passport control official by the name of Bakhodyr from the Pakhtakorskaya regional office sent for her.
He took her to his superior Olkar Pardayev, who, citing that a mistake was made on the passport during the printing, took her passport.
According to Kholbayev, Pardayev promised that she would receive her passport before long, and that they needed only to prepare a correct passport and would call her as soon as it was ready. However, nobody has contacted her in more than a week.
The “Birdamlik” activist assumes that her passport was taken in order to prevent her participation in the movement’s meeting on April 9-10 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The Goal: color revolution
According to the movement’s leader Bakhodyr Choriyev, 16 people from Uzbekistan were invited to the congress: 15 members of the movement and one human rights defender Elena Urlayeva as a guest.
Choriyev tells that many of the members of his party began to run into difficulties, the main one being receiving exit visas from the OVIR, which allows for two years of travel abroad.
“Birdamlik” intends to hold new elections for party leadership at the meeting in St. Louis and to approve their charter and program, which as its main goal appears to be a plan of action for the implementation of a color revolution in Uzbekistan.
In 2009, “Birdamlik” attempted to conduct its own first congress in Shakhrizabze, Uzbekistan, when Choriev himself traveled to the country.
But then the authorities caused difficulty by calling units to Kashkadarya congress, who arrest many along the road and placed others under house arrest.
