Translation - English Golden Week in Hakodate is super crowded!
Because of travellers visiting Hakodate/Sapporo during Golden Week, most hotels were completely full even over a month in advance. Yunokawa Onsen had no vacancies. All the decent hotels within Hakodate City were also completely booked out. Only the expensive rooms remained.
I somehow managed to book one of the remaining rooms in this hotel, but on the on the day I arrived there was a sign indicating no further vacancies. For those looking to visit the Hakodate morning market, this hotel is very conveniently located. The building and room were old, and the room was well-worn, but considering the prices during Golden Week it was quite a bargain. The water pressure was low for both the bath and the toilet, but that was it. I had no issues. It was a cheap and convenient hotel.
Right in front of the morning market.
The Hakodate morning market is right in front, and Hakodate station is quite close as well. It’s a very convenient hotel. Our check-in time was scheduled for the evening, but when we went to see if we could drop off our luggage in the morning, they kindly processed our check-in at the same time. Thanks to that, we were able to go sightseeing at our leisure without having to worry about the time. We were able to look up plenty of sightseeing information on locations around the Hakodate City area using their tourism map, which was very helpful. The room was a Japanese style tatami room; the bath was fine and relatively large, but with the three of us women we figured it would take too long for us to all use the bath – so we opted for the family bath.
However, the family bath only had one shower. The bath was small and became full with only two people in it, so it wasn’t really much different to using the bath in the room. In the morning, we were able to go out and have breakfast in the morning market and do some shopping, before later collecting our luggage in the room, which was great.
