A copy editor by day, poetry comes out of me at night (or vice versa if I am working under an editing deadline!).
I first learned the beauty of language - with its written rules and spoken irregularities - at home. Growing up in an english-speaking household with french roots, I had a teacher and a law editor as parents. It’s perhaps no coincidence then that I find professional and poetic satisfaction in sentencing documents to the laws of language and simultaneously breaking the conviction. Nor should it be a surprise that I hail from Portland Oregon, known as the City of Books. Yet all the stories in all the pages of all the shelves at Powell’s Bookstore couldn’t cure (perhaps even ignited) a wanderlust deep within me.
At age ten I took an airplane for the first time and haven’t stopped flying since. I have traveled across Western Europe, North America, and West Africa. Having spent extended amounts of time in French-speaking cities like Paris and Dakar, I’ve found that something more than my formal (i.e. studying French consistently through middle, high, college, and graduate schools) and informal (i.e. living in French-speaking households for over ten years) exposure to French brings me success communicating through it: a love of story. Having been educated in literature, theater, dance, visual art, and classical music from an early age, my deepest commitment to the vitality and resilience of the human spirit is what gives me the utmost enthusiasm for working with companies that translate ideas and stories across cultures and languages. Thank you for considering my profile, and I hope to work with you soon!
