Hi, I’m Muge. I come from Northern China. Currently, I’m studying Translation and Localization Management at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
Language is my passion. My undergraduate study at Beijing Foreign Studies University helped me develop a profound understanding of the linguistic and cultural aspects of language. The knowledge came together when I was exchanged to Western Sydney University to study translation—a subject and a profession concerning cross-lingual and cross-cultural transmission. I got the first-hand experience by translating articles, personal documents, subtitles, etc. And as a fan of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), I translated Chinese self-healing stories into English for Beijing Paida and Lajin Global Promotion Co., Ltd.’s official website. Through the published translation work (available at http://www.paidalajin.com/en/home/), I communicated TCM ideas to native English speakers and helped PaidaLajin Self-Healing Method break into the Western market.
I believe when combined with technology, language becomes more powerful. The industry of translation and localization carries global implications in enhancing the economic and cultural exchange among different nations. I would like to be a professional in this field and make a difference bridging across cultural divides through translating and localizing. That is why I joined the TLM program at MIIS to receive the best training. I took a variety of exciting courses, such as Written/Sight Translation, Localization Project Management, Website Localization and Computer-Assisted Translation, conducted a number of translation and localization team projects in and out of class, and participated in many conferences and events in the Bay area. I feel so lucky for having these opportunities at MIIS!
I’m a traveler. I’ve been to Sri Lanka to teach English at local international schools and I went to Indonesia last year to promote self-healing method.
