My name is Samantha and I am a trained translator and project manager. At present I am in search of translation, terminology, lexicography and project management positions within the language industry. I have 6 years of experience in administration, customer service, and language training positions.
While teaching ESL in Spain I was able to strengthen my Spanish and other language skills. While working as a bilingual (French and English) CSR for Sun Life Financial Canada, UNICEF Canada, and Shoppers Drug Mart I was able to strengthen my skills in customer service and computer administration. My strong presentation abilities, time management, organization, problem solving skills, and project management knowledge also grew in those roles. I won several awards for my customer service, process improvement, and project management work within Sun Life Financial Canada.
My education has also helped with the above mentioned skill set. I have an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in language and culture (Italian, French, and German) at the University of Toronto (St. Michael’s College, St. George Campus), and I later completed a post-graduate certificate in project management at U of T: School of Continuing Studies. At present I am completing my M.A. in Translation Studies (French & Spanish> English) at Dublin City University, where I have been able to round out my translation skills to a higher level of sophistication. Throughout my adult education I have worked on a number of large projects including transcribing and creating a glossary for a medieval Bible written by Nicolò Malerbi, researching, defining and proving electronic and electrical engineering terminology for WIPO (the World Intellectual Property Organization), and developing a machine translation system for a school project using Kantan MT.
If you are in search of a translator, terminologist, lexicographer, or project manager then I am the candidate for you.
