I am a native Portuguese speaker, born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal.
My fluency in Spanish comes from my bilingual background (Argentine mother, Portuguese father), but I choose to only translate into Portuguese because it is the language I had all my formal education in, and I therefore consider my Portuguese to be slightly better than my Spanish.
I've always had a knack and a passion for languages, and reached fluency in my first non-native language, English, at the age of 17 in 2010, having gotten an A in the Cambridge CAE exam (C2 level).
Between September 2014 and June 2015 I studied abroad in Rome, where I learned Italian, my 4th language, having passed the CELI-5 exam in December 2015, which corresponds to a C2 in Italian.
I have also lived in Germany for 3 months in 2016 and learned French in school for three years, and although I am conversational in both, I still cannot translate in those languages.
I have a medical degree (MD), and therefore specialise in the medical sector, where I can deliver high-quality translation, proofreading and copy-editing.
I have worked in tourism for 3 years, and can deliver natural Portuguese texts that address the culture and lifestyle of the target audience, rather than a straightforward translation of a text designed to appeal to the source-language reader.
I consider myself to have the right qualities for the job:
- I'm perfectly happy working alone at my computer
- I'm not afraid to shoulder responsibility
- I'm very thorough and make it a point to deliver top-quality work.
- I love the research side and just love to learn new words and their origins, even when I'm not working.
