Translation - Portuguese MODERATOR: And what are one or two main differences concerning the way you use biologic drugs to treat ulcerative retrocolitis and Crohn’s disease compared to the way you treated them two or three years ago? What are the most significant changes you have observed?
RESPONDENT: Now, there many studies, I feel safer to use biologic drugs, safer with their collateral effects, actually. I feel more confident to prescribe, to guide the patients, etc.
MODERATOR: And has it changed the therapeutic target for Crohn’s disease, for example, compared to two or three years ago?
RESPONDENT: No, not really, the target is still reaching clinical and endoscopic remission. We have been trying more and more to reach histologic remission, too, but it’s an outcome we just wish for, but we don’t change the therapy just to try histologic remission.
MODERATOR: Okay. And for retrocolitis too? Clinical and endoscopic remission and a desired histologic remission?
RESPONDENT: Yes, clinical and endoscopic remission. We wish the histologic remission but if they present the first two, but we don’t change the treatment based only on histologic remission.
MODERATOR: And this reduction of collateral effects, how did it impact the life of the patients in the last two and three years?
RESPONDENT: Now we can give a choice to the patients, of course, based on the profile of the disease, some patients can’t have this option. But we can give the option of a venous or subcutaneal medication. It’s good for them as it’s such a complicated disease, if they can choose the best administration method, it’s an important point.
MODERATOR: What does it change?
RESPONDENT: The comfort, itself. Some patients used to feel too bad to have to go to a clinic every eight weeks for venous administration; others didn’t feel comfortable applying to themselves in the case of subcutaneal. Only having this choice is already of great help to patients.
MODERATOR: Does it also help with their commitment to the treatment?
RESPONDENT: For sure.
MODERATOR: And how about retrocolitis patients? What’s the impact of these changes in their lives?
RESPONDENT: I guess the impact is also related to commitment. As we know how to deal with the biologic medication better, we can give them better guidance, we pass more confidence, they get more committed, we can guide better regarding vaccines, they feel safer, actually.
