Bio

Born in upstate New York, I spent the better part of 20
years abroad first as a Kyoto-based language instructor, then as a Tokyo-based financial
analyst (and translator) at two investment banks, and finally as a university
research fellow. As a doctoral candidate at the University of Oxford (UK), a
postdoctoral fellow at the University of Tokyo (Japan) and the University of
Duisburg-Essen (Germany), and later as an independent consultant for multiple firms,
I conducted fieldwork in East Asia, Europe and Latin America. I interviewed government actors, collated
relevant data, and translated and analyzed original-language source materials
such as government transcripts, newspaper articles, and books regarding
restructuring developments in the following sectors: energy, transportation, financial
services, and airlines.

I began my studies in Spanish literature and political
science as an undergraduate, and later majored in international economics and
comparative political economy at the master’s and doctoral levels.

My particular interest is in energy markets and I have professional
translation experience in the finance and business fields, and have consecutive
interpreting experience for the Japanese and Spanish languages into English.
