Bio
Hi,

My name is Kelly Vanbesien, born in 1987 in the small country Belgium.
My mother tongue is Dutch (Flemish). At early age, I was already fascinated by
languages. Especially when my uncle moved to Ireland: I was very eager to learn
English so I could make some new friends over there when we would be visiting him
and my cousins during the holidays.

After secondary school (where I studied economy – modern languages:
Dutch, English, French and German), I went to Antwerp to get my master’s
degree. During the bachelor education, I studied French, Spanish and Chinese (we
all need a challenge, do not we?
😉) Unfortunately, it was
not yet possible to study Chinese in the master education during that time. So
I continued with French and Spanish. During this last year, I have translated a
lot of technical, medical and juristic texts.

I obtained my diploma and started working in a company which sells electric
household appliances on the European market. As assistant director I was
responsible for the French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish and Polish market.
Because of my translation skills, I also needed to translate, check or edit the
manuals, giftboxes and technical files of the products. I even had the chance
to translate some culinary texts and recipes. I also wrote the marketing texts
for their website, Facebook, press, promotions, folders, flyers,… During the 8
years I have been working for that company, I have broadened my technical knowledge
and vocabulary.

After these 8 years, I decided it was time for a new adventure: I was
already working as a freelance translator as a second occupation, but I did not
want to take any financial risk at that moment, so I started teaching French
and Dutch at VTI Kontich and afterwards at Het Leerlabo. Believe me
or not, being a teacher is very hard: it is very exhausting to put a lot of
energy in a group of youngsters that is not interested at all in learning
French or Dutch. That is why I am now tutoring youngsters and adults who need
some extra help or who want to learn a foreign language. This gives me much
more satisfaction and provides me also some nice variation in my translating
job. That is right: I have jumped into the deep in the meantime: I am now
working as a fulltime freelancer.
😊

Besides my job, I am passionate about horses and dressage. I compete and
love to train my horses together with my husband. The little free time that
remains, we spend on sports: fitness, jogging,…

So, this was my story. 😊 Thanks for reading it and
I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Regards,

Kelly
