Translation - English TAKASHI This is a story about when I went to eat beef bowl at a shop where you order using a ticket-vending machine.
I always get the egg and sticky yam set with a beef bowl, so I pressed that button. But it wouldn’t budge. Only the button for that set was insanely stiff.
It was sticking out, but the button wouldn’t move. I thought it wasn’t a real button, but it was. A button you can’t press.
So I thought I’d ask the staff instead. I got my beef bowl ticket and said “One egg-yam set too please.” They said, “Eggs are 60 yen, yam 100 yen, so that’s 160 yen.” That’s the price of the individual items.
The set is 140 yen. I said, “No, I want the set please.” They said, “Please buy the set from the machine, if you order here it’s the individual items.”
“The button is stuck, so I’m asking you.” “From here, eggs are 60 yen, yam 100 yen, so it’ll be 160 yen”.
“No, that’s the individual items. I want the set. One set, please.” But they just kept saying “Please buy it from the machine”.
This isn’t a story about 20 yen. The set was there, in the vending machine. But the button was stuck. The set existed, but I couldn’t get it.
It was there but not there. You know?
