English to Chinese: Returning to the Office—A Phased Approach General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Management

And, see the results of our employee survey
Masks, check.
Temperature screenings, check.
Break rooms rules and procedures, check.
Meeting rooms – new capacity limits and cleaning rules, check.
These are just a few of the checklist “to-do” items that Spectrum Brands facility leaders and site teams have prepared for employees’ eventual return to the office.
“Our goal is to be prepared to welcome back employees with the necessary safety enhancements,” says Danielle Pellitteri, who leads the Return to Office planning as part of the COVID-19 Response Team. “Our teams have worked hard over the last 60 days to review office layouts, secure personal protective equipment, establish traffic flows, and create new rules and procedures for operating in the office.”
Timing is the key to the plan. First, site planning teams are evaluating the local community health situation for positive signs such as a downward trend in confirmed cases over the prior two weeks, COVID-19 testing availability and hospitals operating without crisis care measures.
Secondly, stay-at-home orders from the surrounding area must be lifted, and finally, sites must be ready to re-open by having cleaning and personal protective equipment in supply, building signage, etc. Once ready, the business unit leader must approve re-opening the site.
Employees will be welcomed back in a phased approach once re-opening is approved. That means that no more than 25% of an office population will be able to return at the time of re-opening, or the first phase. The first phase is comprised of employees who need to come back due to the nature of their roles or those who request to come back. Additional phases will be approved based on success of prior phases as well as the external health environment. There is no set amount of time between any particular phase.
“We control the pacing of this process,” says Randy Lewis, Chief Operating Officer. “We are monitoring the progress of the disease and listening to the feedback and concerns of our employees. Over time, we would like to see everyone back in the office working as a unified team and having that important face-to-face interaction. We will take a measured, phased approach to do that in a way that works for our employees and our business.”
More than 620 employees responded to our anonymous survey in early May asking how they felt about returning to the office. Here are the results:
• 27% said they were ready
• 30% said they were hesitant but confident in the company’s return to office plan
• 43% said they did not feel comfortable at this time
“We understand that our employees have different feelings on returning to the office,” says Pellitteri, regarding the survey results. “Some of our employees are high risk or have family members that are high risk and are not as comfortable in returning. We want to work with each employee to understand their concerns and offer options.”
The site planning teams are using your feedback to address safety questions and concerns, and we will continue to provide more information on SpectraNet, in email and in videos. Here are answers to top questions from the survey.
Questions from Employees
How long will the phases for returning to the office last?
There is no set period of time for each phase. Rather, the phase length will depend on how each phase progresses. The site team will review the site’s ability to maintain distance within the office environment as more people return to determine whether it’s time to invite the next phase in. We will also continue to monitor the external community health status. Our goal is to help people return to the office in a safe, controlled manner.
I am high risk OR I live with someone who is high risk. What should I do?
Please reach out to your manager and HRBP if you or a loved one fits the definition of high risk from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). You can discuss whether a later phase is appropriate for return or if flexible scheduling options are possible.
My regular childcare options are limited, and I don’t have childcare at this time. What should I do?
Employees should begin considering other arrangements that could be made for childcare. We understand that childcare options may be limited or different from what is normally available in your area.
Please discuss this this with your manager. You should discuss the time needed to make alternative arrangements and whether a later phase is appropriate for return or flexible scheduling options are possible.
I am concerned about safety/social distancing at my office. What is the company doing about this?
Our site teams are implementing new safety and social distancing enhancements and protocols. More details will be shared prior to employees returning to the office. If you have questions about your specific office, please share them with your manager or local site team.
I am concerned about whether my coworkers will comply with safety protocols. How will they be enforced?
Like any other workplace rule, we expect all employees to comply with the safety protocols as part of their return to office. Our safety and social distancing policies are in place to protect the health of everyone in the workplace. Please keep an open mind and understand that we will all need to make changes to this new reality.
If you have a concern about safety when you return to the office, please let your manager or site team know.
What if someone at the office is confirmed with COVID-19 after people go back to the office?
The Company will follow the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in returning individuals to the office. If this situation happens, we will follow the same process we’ve had in place at our sites since the beginning. We will:
• Ask the affected employee to stay home for at least 14 days (if symptoms persist past the 14-
day mark then employee must be symptom free for 72 hours before returning).
• Conduct contact tracing to identify other people that may have been in close contact with the
individual. We will inform them to self-quarantine for 14 days or provide a doctor’s release to return to work.
• Conduct a deep cleaning of the full or partial site, based on the circumstances and, use a third-party service where necessary. If needed, we may shut down the full or partial site to clean.
• Analyze our processes and facility to determine if we need to make any changes.
• Check in daily with the affected employee after he/she returns to work to ensure the individual remains symptom free.
Our commitment to you is to keep our environment as safe as possible. So far, we have been able to reopen sites where we have had confirmed cases.
“我们控制这一过程的节奏,”首席运营官 Randy Lewis 说。“我们正在检视疾病的进展,同时倾听员工的反馈和顾虑。随着时间的流逝,我们希望大家都回到办公室,作为一个统一的团队而工作,并进行重要的面对面的互动。我们将采取一种经过考量的、分阶段的方法,以一种对我们的员工和我们的业务都合适的方式来实现这一目标。”
