What You Have Lost [theater review]

This piece is composed of five short stories, similar to the omnibus form in films, about the idea of losing something or someone. The author of the piece is the group under the name of Changjakjipdan Dok (창작집단 독) and was directed by Hana Moon and Jun-ho Jeong. Each short story is a different episode, however they are all connected together to become one and they draw a unified conclusion at the end of the piece. This being the idea that the frustration and the pain of “losing something” can only evolve through hope; an idea that many spectators will be able to relate to. This message is a common ground in these very ordinary and humane stories, and is conveyed through a great variety of emotions. In this sense it would be ambiguous to determine the genre of the play, nevertheless comedy and drama are its essential components. Overall, it is a truly fascinating play.
